@Strawberries4days I don't think an hour is too early at all, I m sure I ve seen that sort of gap suggested in loads of places before.
It's going great the past couple of days, he loved his bagel for breakfast this morning and stole my garlic bread at dinner last night.

We re lucky in that he was only on 4 bottles before we started weaning so at the moment 3 meals is working out for him(his massive size is probably making a big difference though).
Roughly we fit it in like this;
8.30 milk
9.30 breakfast
11ish half hour nap
12 milk
1 lunch
2/3 1-1.5 nap
4 milk
5/6 dinner.
He doesn't really nap for that long, seems to naturally not need that much with his good night sleep.

1990shopefulftm · 29/04/2021 12:45

His 4th bottle is around 8/9

Strawberries4days · 29/04/2021 13:03

@1990shopefulftm ah it sounds similar to my schedule. That's what I read up, I think he's worried that she's gonna be too full for milk but is it only a couple of spoonful's. Haha going mad for garlic bread now!

@BlueLilyLilyBlue thats good it's going well! Exact the same, I think I'll leave lunch and focus on breakfast and tea since it's just the start and end of the day. Put more focus into breakfast I think. Don't think everyone is a fan of parsnips 🙈 BLW sounds so good, I'm just worrying about the choking since she can't sit up yet so might wait till then or jump it, not sure

@Strawberries4days he's still taking his usual 10oz of milk so I wouldn't worry too much about them getting full.
We re doing BLW as he sits well in his highchair despite not really sitting if you put him on the floor yet, if the foods the right size apparently there's no more chance of choking.

DressingGown87 · 29/04/2021 13:48

@Strawberries4days I’m still struggling to find the rhythm with naps and bottles too, and I’ve been weaning for weeks. We have upped to 2 meals now and snacks. Generally do breakfast or lunch and then tea (sorry I’m a northerner 😂). But it’s generally 1/1.5hours after milk.

Glad everyone is getting on well with the weaning.

We do a mix of BLW and purée. But she has got the hang of the spoon now so provided it’s loaded up, she will feed herself the purée. Last night she had mash and green beans, night before beef stew mushed down a bit. Breakfast is either toast / fruit / porridge. Lunch fruit / purée / rice cakes. Need to get more adventurous.

@krissy12 Sorry to read he’s still unwell, hopefully he’s feeling better soon.

We have had a few bad nights now, where she will rub her eyes, drop to sleep, then wake within 60seconds crying. Can’t figure out what’s bothering her, I think she might have some more teeth coming. Due to go on holiday tomorrow too. Currently working on about 3 hour sleep.

Strawberries4days · 29/04/2021 14:02

@1990shopefulftm I think it'll be good when they can all be on food and then no more bottles of milk! The dream even if it is so far😂

@DressingGown87 it is difficult! I'm glad I'm not the only one and happy that I'm right bout the wait an hour to an hour and a half. I also call it tea😂 awwww it sounds she's doing well with the food! Glad she's enjoying it.

What a shame, it could be teething, has she got any teeth just now? I've been told the molars are the worst part but might be too soon for them?

1990shopefulftm · 29/04/2021 14:41

@Strawberries4days could be there in half a year, I m keeping my fingers crossed that by using cows milk in cooking it ll be easier to wean off formula when that day comes.

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 29/04/2021 14:55

@Strawberries4days the choking aspect is a bit scary - it's hard not to immediately jump in and fish it out when he gags! Just need to remind self he's learning and I have noticed a big difference in a couple of weeks. My DS can't sit up for very long unaided either.

@DressingGown87 I hope sleep gets better for you soon and you enjoy your holiday! I'm also starting to think I need to branch out on foods and maybe need to plan the week out more.

krissy12 · 01/05/2021 16:00

@DressingGown87 hope paiges sleeping gets a bit better and you have a great holiday

we are still focusing on breakfast and just tastes of things here and there during the day of what we're eating but we're struggling with the gagging. he is gagging on most things today gave him a tiny bit of macaroni cheese mashed up and he gagged so badly on it and gave himself such a fright he became hysterical.

Mc3209 · 02/05/2021 14:53

@krissy12 aww little baby. He will get a hang of it.
I'm still sticking to mashed/pureed vegetables and fruit, porridge, and yoghurt. I got him that thingy, like a silicon bag with holes + a handle, for fruit. He chews on it, but no risk of choking.
I'm doing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus he is breastfeeding every 2.5 hours. A large chunk of my day is spent feeding. He still eats few spoonfuls at a sitting though.

Glooorb · 02/05/2021 21:09

@Mc3209 have you noticed any changes in your breast feeds? I'm going to be giving Oscar more "substantial" meals (currently j give him one or 2 meals per day, mainly just purée at the moment) and wondered how it may affect his breast feeds.

My HV says food before one is just for fun, does this mean breast feeds stay generally the same?

Mc3209 · 02/05/2021 21:34

@Glooorb I haven't noticed any change in breastfeeds, day or night. I would imagine it would take more than few spoonfuls.
How much is Oscar eating per meal?

OP posts:
Sls668 · 02/05/2021 22:46

Am I the only one whose baby would never stop eating when it comes to solids? I keep seeing people saying just 2 or 3 spoonfuls! Mine would be screaming blue murder after that, she wants loads! It’s funny because she is ridiculously tiny even though she’s always enjoyed breastfeeding. I haven’t found a single thing she doesn’t like yet either!

GhostWorld · 03/05/2021 07:59

I dont know about you lot but the bank Holiday weekend has made me feel pretty sad about missing my old life. I love being a mum but all my childless friends all went out in various capacities last night and all said they were going to enjoy pizza in bed hungover today, meanwhile I was in bed at 7.40 and up this morning at 6.. I used to be a big drinker and very social animal, I miss getting dressed up and feeling good about myself, I miss wine and I miss late dinners and having a chat without holding a baby that won't sit still. Feel guilty about it but I would love a night out!

krissy12 · 03/05/2021 08:31

@GhostWorld I'm the same loads of people I know were out and we normally would be to. is there anyone that could babysit for you? we're going out properly for the first time in a couple of weeks for DH birthday and I'm so looking forward to getting all dressed up and being out

GhostWorld · 03/05/2021 10:41

Weve got 2 weddings in one weekend coming up in July which my PIL are babysitting for but it's filling me with anxiety as DS is breastfed and co sleeping atm. I'm part of a fb group where it seems like you're a bad parent if you leave your child before they're 3 which I think I'm going to have to leave! Let us know how your night out goes, how are you feeling about it? Other than excited haha

Glooorb · 03/05/2021 10:54

@Mc3209 he is starting to ramp up I think. The other night he had 50g of mash with kale purée and still wanted more! I guess it's a matter of offering him the boob and see whether he wants it... good to know that your feeds haven't changed dramatically! I get blocked ducts really easily so any changes in feeding may well give me more blockages

@Sls668 yes! Oscar is quite small too (14% percentile) and he is crying after pretty much every meal. He acts like he wants more food since he stops crying when he sees the spoon and reaches out for it. Oscar is liking everything he has tried too even the bitter cauliflower purée on its own. I'm hoping this continues as perhaps when he tastes more food he will become more picky and naturally develop preferences.

@GhostWorld your comment - I could have written it myself. Totally agree and I feel very much the same. I feel like I am losing myself a bit - I'm now "Oscar's mum" rather than Glooorb. It's tough. I keep telling myself that once I go back to work / he weans off breast, I will be less attached to him and will get some of that identity back. And at that time I'm sure I will lament the fact that we don't spend as much time together as before!

1990shopefulftm · 03/05/2021 11:14

@Sls668 we re doing 3 meals a day and he ll easily finish a bowl of Weetabix or a whole yoghurt, he ate 2 fish fingers with his dinner last night. He's massive though.

krissy12 · 03/05/2021 11:47

@GhostWorld yeah I would be leaving that group my LB has stayed with my parents a few times already to give us a sleep and he absolutely loves it he gets constant attention but he isn't BF so I imagine it might be more difficult

Mc3209 · 03/05/2021 13:37

I am feeling envious of all good eaters here 😊
@GhostWorld oh definitely leave that group. You need to do what's right for you and your family. Happy mum - happy baby.

Strawberries4days · 03/05/2021 13:52

@GhostWorld I know what you mean, you do feel like you lose a bit of Identity but it'll come back around once there's some sort of routine and everything opens up more. I think from missing everything during pregnancy and lockdown didn't help so here hoping it'll get better. That's mad what the group says, DD been looked after by her GP once a week to let me tidy up or go to the shops since i don't like having the pram in store when it's busy for a food shop. She loves the attention and has been good with them. it gives you a bit of a break in the week too so it's not constant baby as well. If someone can offer a few hours off for you, I would go for it.

I'm also jealous of everyone's weaning 😂 DD has discovered she can blow raspberries with food or water in her mouth so we have both been covered in slobbery purées 🤦🏽‍♀️ we were going to do blw yesterday but I bottled it. What's the best first time blw finger food for them to try? I started with broccoli but I think I made it too soft so worried for her choking

krissy12 · 03/05/2021 13:56

@Mc3209 we are doing a little better with eating here I'm trying not to stress about it and not having a set routine is helping. we're still focusing on breakfast we now do something he can spoon fed like porridge or fruit yogurt as well as a finger food like toast or banana pancake for him to try and play about with. then if he's showing an interest like today he stuck his hand in my quiche trying to get some so i gave him a bit but if he's not showing any interest I'm not bothering

Sls668 · 04/05/2021 16:33

What are everybody’s nap/bedtime schedules like now? I feel like we’re pretty routine now but often we run slightly late which means the 3rd nap is late and we either have to try skip it or it happens far too late which effects bedtime. Anybody else have the same problem?
Our ideal day would be 7.30 wake up then 9.30-10.30 nap, 12.30-1.30ish nap then maybe 4-4.30ish and sleep for 7.30 (she still falls asleep on me downstairs until I take her up to bed at the moment!). Those ideal timings very rarely happen though!

1990shopefulftm · 04/05/2021 17:12

@Sls668 bedtime is between 9 and 10 regardless of nap lengths that day so I kind of leave him to it and help him nod off if he needs it, at most he naps for 3 hours in a day but on average it's around 2.

Strawberries4days · 04/05/2021 21:31

@Sls668 I use wake windows so she's awake up to 3 hours at a time but I have noticed she's sleeping a bit longer. Like either in the morning or afternoon, she'll do one big nap that lasts up to 2 hours-2.5 and then a cat nap of 30 mins then bed.
So Yesterday she did:
7am - wake up
9.30 - nap for an hour
1pm - nap for 2.5 hours
5pm - nap for 45 mins
8pm - bed
This was a biggest naps she's done though, if she slept that long from 1pm she sometimes skips the last nap and we get her bath a bit earlier so she's all ready for her bed which could be down for 7.30pm.

So I have a rough idea of when she wants to nap. Gave up with schedules because at the start I was too obsessed and wasted the day trying to get her to nap
