What age did you stop staying in DC's room until they fell asleep?

As the title says, usually we stay with DD until she falls asleep. What age did you move to "night night" and just leave them to it?

He falls asleep! Hoping to gradually withdraw, so next week will just sit there, once he’s happy with that will sit further away and then will shhh outside the door! I think by 2 my eldest was falling asleep without me in the room and no tears shed. 🤞🏽🤞🏽

My DD has just turned two. We used to cuddle/rock her to sleep and then put her down. But we changed it a couple of months ago to giving her a quick night night cuddle and then leaving her to it. She went with it straight away much to our surprise!

Oh you’ll get two answers to this. One will be “I’ve never done it because my child is a unicorn who slept like a log from 25 seconds old” and the other will be “still doing it now at 36”.

My daughter is 2.5 and I still stay in her room whilst she falls asleep. I feed her 1yo brother to sleep at the same time. I’ve got so many rods for my own back I don’t ever need to think about standing up straight!

We had two phases of it! We did it till he was about 1 ish and then he had a regression after he was ill and we did it again for about 6 months around 2. He’s been an absolute angel about bedtime since then (he’s nearly six now) so it didn’t create a long term issue.

My DS is 2 and I'm sat in his room now We went through a phase where we could put him down and leave him but now he asks us to stay and if we don't he gets more and more upset and is then a nightmare to calm down. I want to try sleep training but I figure he's little and if I have to sit with him for 15 minutes at night to make him feel safe and secure then I will

At about 18 months, I'd go out of the room for 3 mins, then come back, then 5 mins etc... basically the world's most gentle version of controlled crying

We found a really consistent bedtime routine (bath, three stories, kiss goodnight) worked well...

I never really minded it that much. I used to listen to an audiobook. The only bad thing was the (many) times I’d wake up like 3 hours later having nodded off in the chair in his room!

Sorry, I never did either. Fed, popped in cot, walked away. Checked back surreptitiously about 20 mins later, either still shuffling about or playing, or fast asleep.

I don't think I ever did that. I had a book that went through what to do week by week. On week 8 or something it said try to not get them to fall asleep on you and transfer them; instead get them drowsy and then put them in their cot. This way they'll learn to go to sleep by themselves when they feel tired.

Never did. We bed shared until 6 months? Then I set up a side car cot and moved him over to it. Then moved the cot away from my bed and then into his own room. Never stayed eith him.

Never have with either of mine. DD 20 months has a cuddle,songs and bottle and then I lay her in her cot and leave the room. She wakes every night at 1am to come in my bed though so I’m not quite winning!

With my stepson me or his dad had to lay next to him until he was nearly 3 and if you dared move before he was asleep he woke up again and you had to start again,could be up there for 2 hours! I put my foot down when I was pregnant with DD as it was so uncomfortable lying in a toddler bed for hours. Did a gradual retreat which took a few weeks but he went down fine after that and sleeps very well.

I needed to because I didn’t want him to cry himself to sleep.

@CarlottaValdez ...leaving your child awake at bedtime doesnt mean they cry themselves to sleep...

I did gentle sleep training at 9/10 months and have never done it since (apart from the odd occasion). If my DD won’t settle then it now keeps her up more if I stay in the room with her.
