well... since you ask...
i think the thing is that people read them, almost in an instant, so where you in your head may be pronouncing your name sarahgeegee, right, but i read it as sayragg. which is, i don't know, kinda abrupt and naggy as a noise.
do you know what i mean? i'm not meaning it as an insult At All, but i'm saying that it may be having an impact, cos it's all about how things are read on a forum, by definition.
whereas, to use an example of someone who i don't really know but whose name always makes me smile, someone like GibbonInARibbon is a cheering name in an instant. actually, come to think of if, adamadamum is a nightmare of a name as well. i've had to check it every time, and if she was just participating in a normal thread i probably wouldn't bother if the thread was moving fast, so anything she said would effectively appear 'ignored' by me.
as for my own name, it's not great i know. when i first appeared i was aitch71, and someone pointed out that having numbers is a bit naffola, so i asked for suggestions and people came up with aitchtwooh, as in h2o, which was fine. and then MN held a charity auction of names and Aitch was on the list so i bought it for £25... i may change it again, right enough.
anyway, i hope you see what i mean. it may only be me who has difficulty recognising unmemorable names, right enough.
