Oh, NO! I'd NEVER have a pinata. I'm vegetarian, you see, and I'd never let my children whack something that had a face.
At parties, we have carrot juice and yummy oatmeal bites. Then we meditate. The little ones LOVE IT!

pollywollydoodle · 03/09/2007 23:48

we've sponsored a pinata on this spanish farm for abused pinatas doncha know

UCM · 03/09/2007 23:50

Stop there, you can buy drum type ones, drums do NOT HAVE A FACE! IMHO you are depriving your kids because it's the only time EVER they can hit something with a stick

Pinatas? Poncy beyond belief. Young boys whacking each other - now that's a proper kids party.

OrmIrian · 04/09/2007 14:16

Hmmm .. maybe they are just a teeny bit. It does sometimes feel on here (and on other parenting sites I might add) that good parenting consists of saying 'no' to more things than saying 'yes'.

aloha · 04/09/2007 14:17

I had a pinata once. The kids couldn't make any impact at all. Blu was bloody impressive with a big stick though.

I used the term 'devout miserablists' today Cod, on F&Z's basket out the window thread. Lots of 'oooh, you'll have someone's eye out doing that'.

OrmIrian · 04/09/2007 14:18

Although I steadfastly set my face against pinatas because they are so expensive as a short-lived receptacle for sweets, and popping lots of cheap balloons is just as much fun. And as DH points out we are not Mexican. So maybe I am a killjoy too in this respect.

princessmel · 04/09/2007 14:20

Yes I think that a lot of the time.

Just read F&Z thread about the basket game and people were going on about how dangerous it was.

Its like they are all trying to be the first one to point out the pitfalls of everything. Well not everyone is like this.

sittingonaveryhighhorse · 04/09/2007 14:20

yes, not me obviously. I never make judgements about anyone because I'm perfect. The view from up here is marvelous.

TinyGang · 04/09/2007 14:24

Maybe we could compromise and make a Pinata with organic vegetables inside it?

Blu · 04/09/2007 14:27

I can't believe anyone would be irresponsible enough to put a wooden toy in a pinata, Fair Trade or not..
Even mini packet of Love Hearts can do a bit of damage as they fly out.

MrsBadger · 04/09/2007 14:31

am gobsmacked by the reactions on the Wnaky Basket On A String thread

saltire · 04/09/2007 14:36

I was at a party once where the pinata was filled with miniatures................................. of whisky, vodka, gin and brandy.

it was a great party.
I think

meowmix · 04/09/2007 14:36

surely a mumsnet pinata would be in the shape of a hairy handed trucker?

bozza · 04/09/2007 14:43

I think there might be quite a few cases of concussion at olive's party tbh when all the pinata is smashed and all those wooden toys go flying across the room.

I made my own football pinata except for that it was balloon shaped, but covered in crepe paper hexagaons. Not too sure the children cared what it was meant to be - they were too busy wacking it. I was most worried that it wouldn't last a full round but it did three or four.

bozza · 04/09/2007 14:44

Sorry blu was quicker and more to the point than me. But it has brightened my boring afternoon picturing it.
