I am secretly very unreasonable about people who live in cities who do not vaccinate their children.

People swearing at their children. Snot not being wiped.child not wearing a seat belt while parent is!!!!
Slutty clothes on a little girl

edam · 29/04/2007 16:58

Not really bothered about other people's parenting unless they are being unkind to their children. But I bet I look unkind occasionally when ds has driven me up the wall and I have lost my patience and am telling him off.

mamma2kids · 29/04/2007 16:59

I quite like shouting fishwife stylee. Dh thinks I would make a good fishwife. Actually I think DD would make a good fishwife

I know I'd make a good fishwife too which is why I don't do it in public! I'd make everyone within a five mile radius jump!

mamma2kids · 29/04/2007 17:32

Last time I shouted at DS my sister was terrified (DS didnt bat an eyelid). I used to be the quiet one. Funny how you loose yor inhibitions when you have kids.

Porcupine · 29/04/2007 17:34

talking loudly to kdis to show off

" oh yes tarquin VERY good you knwo your abc"

"come on takrquin lets go ohome and have an organi c buscuit"

oh fark orf and have a pink panther wafer

climbingwalls · 29/04/2007 17:42

ooh yes porcupine, gets right up my tits when people do that! I don't give a monkeys what they have just done or are just going to do with their little darlings, it's announcing it to the whole world that annoys me

Blandmum · 29/04/2007 17:46

'Don't do that Darling' and then sits there while 'Darling' (sic) trashes the place.

I don't really much care how people control their kids (within reason and the law) but the lazy toads who do nothing do my head in.

Particularly when they dress up their idleness in 'Lucinda is such a free spirit we don't believe in quashing her originaility' All the child Lucinda is creativly threashing the other children with an Organic Wooden handcrafted toy.

I was on a long (2 hour) train journey, and there was a couple sitting behind me with a little girl of about 2. They had not brought a book, a snack, or a toy - nothing. She was expected just to sit still, though they did let her get down occasionally. She walked up to me, and smiled and I said 'hello' . I was eating a piece of cake, and I turned to the mum and said, 'can I give her a piece of this?' and the mother glared at me and pulled the little girl back to the seat. When she whinged, she was told 'shuddup!'.

The train passed some fields, and there were some cows in it. ' Horseys!' said the little girl. Both parents laughed in a horrible way, and the mum said, 'silly little bitch - they're cows'.

This was about a year ago, and I still feel upset every time I think of it.

So I suppose I get exercised by parents who don't understand the needs of their children

Maybe they grew up with parents who didn't understand their needs, either.

Sorry it's not a funny story!

Blandmum · 29/04/2007 17:54

tictoc, how awful

climbingwalls · 29/04/2007 18:02

god that's awful tiktok

MerryMarigold · 29/04/2007 18:07

parents that buy their kids 'little monster/ cheeky money' t-shirts for boys and 'little angel/ princess' t-shirts for girls. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....do you really want your kids to behave like either stereotype!

MerryMarigold · 29/04/2007 18:07

oops monKEY not money

Surfermum · 29/04/2007 18:10

People swearing at their children - like the woman I saw a couple of weeks ago whose little girl was getting frightened by the pidgeon who was after her sausage roll. The mother chased it away and said "It's only a f'ing pidgeon. There, it's f'ed off" and then turned to her friends "F'ing child". .

Or the one in the supermarket last week who threatened to beat her child if they didn't start behaving .

I don't like seeing older children with dummies either.

But I do have a dd who, no matter how much I wipe her nose, still ends up looking snotty.

mamma2kids · 29/04/2007 18:23

Also Merri, people who dress their girls up all matchy matchy and then tell them to keep out of the mud in the park (I don't mind girly girls as long as they're allowed to get dirty, thats quite cute).

edam · 29/04/2007 18:30

I threatened to beat ds recently, in an 'exasperated but stil joking' manner.

mamma2kids · 29/04/2007 18:41

And were eyebrows raised?

Saturn74 · 29/04/2007 18:46

Parents who are disrespectful and/or verbally abusive to each other in front of their children.
We went to a theme park on Saturday - we'd just arrived, and the people behind us in the queue were disagreeing about which ride to go on first.
The man told the woman, "I'm going on X ride, so shut the f*k up about it". She replied "they probably won't even let you on it, you fat f*ker". The man then stomped off, leaving the woman laughing loudly at him.
They had two children in a double buggy, who were watching intently, but not making a sound. The little girl, who was about 3, had big tears welling up in her eyes.
It was really sad, and all day I kept thinking about that unhappy little face.

Jacanne · 29/04/2007 19:09

I used to be judgemental about snotty noses and fishwife stylee shouting but I have had 2 children with constantly snotty noses this winter and after a while you just stop bothering and then, of course, I have lost it completely, under extreme provocation and turned into that fishwife woman myself. So I can't put either of those 2.

Mmmm - parents who generally just do not speak nicely to their kids - even when in fishwife mode I try to be polite and never swear

Parents who are smug about their child's diet - the ones that assume that because your child has the odd lemonade and their child drinks nothing but water and the occasional organic squash you are automatically a bad parent.

Parents who boast that their child never ever watches TV but have a huge DVD collection that they put on all the time.

ruddynorah · 29/04/2007 19:19

parents with newborns in pram covered with at least 5 mobiles, swinging toys, black and white visual card things etc etc...to keep the baby stimulated. mostly the kid is asleep.

baby girls in skirts and tights at playgroup. why not just put her in leggings? her skirt flips right up so what is the point?

Porcupine · 29/04/2007 19:20

im sorry but i find only kids really hard to get on wiht
not all of em
but a lot of em

adn kids hwo talk alike adults

nickytwotimes · 29/04/2007 19:20

parents who let eigh tyear olds dress like 18 year olds (ie: hookers!)
people who think that they way they do it is the only way

ruddynorah · 29/04/2007 19:23

just remembered..

parents of girls who only get them things in pink. like a pink trike, a pink tennis set, a pink gardening set..etc. when it's perfectly possible to get the girl those things in just normal everyday real life colours. my ILs think i'm bonkers asking them to get dd's first birthday present in blue and green not pink. it's a trike. they say...but she's a giiiiiiiirl.

nickytwotimes · 29/04/2007 19:23

ooh, ooh, yes, and as said below frequently, people who swear at their kids - don't mind so much swearing in front of them ( though try to avoid it!) but never at them

Jacanne · 29/04/2007 19:34

Sorry to disagree but I get a bit riled by parents who have girls who make a big thing about not buying them pink as if those parents who do are going to be forcing their daughters into a stereotype for life. I have a dd who is obsessed by pink and I think well, it's her bike, her bedroom - it's up to her really. Aside from that she can climb better than any boy she knows, is constantly grubby and can out-scoot most of the boys in her nursery - she just likes princesses too.
