Unscientific survey ... how many of you bath you kids every day?

Because if the media are to be believed, the whole nation's kids are happily blowing bubbles in the bathtub of an evening, every bloody evening. Personally, my ds is lucky if he gets one a week! Maybe two, if my fingernails need cleaning. .

ds has a bath every night without fail. It really helps him settle down for bed and kills that whingy 20 mins before bed too

yomellamoHelly · 01/04/2007 20:50

Every night without fail, but dss are 3.5 andd 3.5 months. Ds1 LOVES his bath and I always inwardly cheer when 5:15 arrives and I can get the ball rolling.

Blu · 01/04/2007 20:54

Very slack in the House of Blu.
It wasn't part of the routine for bed, has dry skin, can't be bothered....wash any stick-out bits that get filthy, but on the whole clothes keep the worst dirt off them, and he hasn't started smelling yet...

We are once/twice a week, with the odd 'pommie-wash' in between.
They did go over a week without a bath on one particular busy week, and was most ashamed when I realised.
( they were a bit whiffy)

Blu · 01/04/2007 20:54

I bath him more in summer, and every day in a hot climate.

liath · 01/04/2007 20:56

Between one and three times a week. Never use soap or bubble bath etc. Dd has dry skin and is prone to eczema. And she went through a phase of doing a poo in the bath (at which point she was lucky to get one a fortnight )

Bath at the w/e dd2 shower most ams (she still wets the bed) and dd1 2-3 showers mid week. Both swim a couple of times aweek so get a shower there too.

Greenleeves · 01/04/2007 21:11

crayon, little boys don't smell any worse than little girls! It's not actually true about the slugs and snails and puppydogs' tails, you know

ClariceB · 01/04/2007 21:13

Twice a day in fact. But the 2nd bath is more of a dip.

Greenleeves · 01/04/2007 21:16

ClariceB, twice a day?? You must look like the California Raisins

tassis · 01/04/2007 21:19

daily here (ds 4, dd 6 months) but mostly for routine and because dd gets grumpy after tea and perks up in the bath

crunchie · 01/04/2007 21:20

2 or 3 times a week. They ae now 8 and 6 and want separate baths, so they do it themselves, one one night, one the next - or when I remember

Malaleche · 01/04/2007 21:26

DD1 3.5 yo gets one a week at the moment if she's lucky, sometimes nearly 2 weeks between if things are particularly hectic. Gets her bum washed every night tho. She gets a bath every night in the summer...
DD2 gets 2 a week. But will get one a night once it gets hot. (We're in Spain)
They both suffer from very dry skin so I declorinate the water with a 'rainshower' crystal ball thingy.

Did any of you realise that people in other countries make jokes about how infrequently the British bathe?

boysontoast · 01/04/2007 21:41

i thought the french made fun of how frequently we bathe...

AspartameGoddessOfCatAstrophe · 01/04/2007 21:45

gosh, that means the French are worse

boysontoast · 01/04/2007 21:53

well... i suppose that depends on your pov...

franca70 · 01/04/2007 21:57

Twice a week, if they are lucky...
Everyday when we are in Italy in the summer and it's very hot.
Never heard a joke about how infrequently the british wash, have to say

franca70 · 01/04/2007 21:58

yes, bum washed everyday

chocolateface · 01/04/2007 22:00

I really thought every child in this country had a bath every night. I've always used it to calm them down, and to signal the start of the bed time routine. I feel so much better now - DS1 who's 8 refuses point blank to have a bath. He goes swimming once a week, and we force a hair wash roughly every fortnight.

berolina · 01/04/2007 22:02

We bath ds (22mo) roughly every 5 days - plus extra baths if he's got dirty or particularly sweaty.

babygrand · 01/04/2007 22:02

Yes, every night. It's good to have a routine.

clayre · 01/04/2007 22:03

dd and ds bathed every night and showered every morning!

gtimama · 01/04/2007 22:04

My two 8 yr olds only get a bath once a week. They are extremely reluctant bathers. They do have a wash every morning, face, underarms and bits and bobs.

Daughter 14 used to be the same as them, but now we fight over the bathroom. Our hot water tank will only fill one bath so it can be quite a battle.

Up to about 6 all my kids bathed every night, but don't think it's really necessary.
