Unscientific survey ... how many of you bath you kids every day?

Because if the media are to be believed, the whole nation's kids are happily blowing bubbles in the bathtub of an evening, every bloody evening. Personally, my ds is lucky if he gets one a week! Maybe two, if my fingernails need cleaning. .

Once a year max

lackofgravitas · 01/04/2007 18:18

Every night, it's a sacrosanct part of the bedtime routine - although at 3 we could probably get away with not bothering. Rarely any 'products' though, and hair washing only when direly necessary.

dumbymummy · 01/04/2007 18:24

You're right, I think, in keeping the products to a minimum. I'm sure more kids have got eczema these days than they used to. I'm no scientist, but there could be something in it.

Usually 3 times, always on a Sunday.
But I detest washing dd1's hair. So dh has to d oit.

bunnypeculiar · 01/04/2007 18:28

Everyday, both of them (3 & 1) - part of their eve routine ... and daddy's first job when he comes home
Lovely part of the day, imo - excuse to splash about & have some contained water play. They both love their bath

Homebird8 · 01/04/2007 18:33

DSs get bathed when I remember - once a week or less sometimes (oops). Terrible mother I know but they don't smell and they're rarely ill!

Spidermama · 01/04/2007 18:33

Every three or four days or when they get muddy or smelly.

fuzzywuzzy · 01/04/2007 18:37

When I only had one child, I would bathe her, polish and fluff her every single evening. Now I have two, only when the smell gets too much to bear....

SpookyMadBunny · 01/04/2007 18:42

We have spates of being every day bathed.... if my sn dd1 is in discomfort then we bath daily. Otherwise every 2-3 days

Aero · 01/04/2007 18:47

Once a week here on a Sunday night during the winter, unless they're particularly grubby - much more in the summer as they get so filthy playing out all the time!

Having said that, ds1 (now nine, takes a quick shower or two in the week as he gets the grubbiest). There's really no need for the younger two.

Hair is only washed on Sunday nights.

TinyGang · 01/04/2007 18:56

Anout twice a week. I'd like it to be more but with three and dinner/homework/after school things/friends for tea it v v difficult to fit in more.

It taked me ages to sort them all out. It's beacause two are girls with long tangly hair that takes a lot of washing combing and drying. I find bath nights exhausting.

bermudatriangle · 01/04/2007 19:41

pretty much every day is a bath day, unless we're eating out, or late in for other reasons. Hair washed every other night. Dd is 4, and loves bath time - she has foam letters that stick to the side of the bath, and they are really helping her with spelling (added bonus!)

Cloudhopper · 01/04/2007 19:44

the 1yo is every day because she gets so dirty. but the 3yo is most days as well. what age can i stop?

childern · 01/04/2007 19:51

Mine only have a bath every other day personly I don't think they need to be bathed every day unless they really need it.

JoshandJamie · 01/04/2007 19:59

My two boys - 18 months and 3 years - have one everyday because it's part of their bedtime routine and they are almost too revolting to hold by the end of the day. I have never known children who can get as filthy as these two.

Living in a country with a hot climate (and having done so as a small child), I have been totally indoctrinated with the need for a bath every day.

DS's are bathed every day with the odd exception. I feel guilty if they aren't. Ditto me and DH. Shower or bath every day, without exception.

twentypence · 01/04/2007 20:03

Shower every single day here. 4 year old boys get pretty revolting after a day of sunscreen, sandpits, climbing trees etc.

tigi · 01/04/2007 20:03

every other day ish, unless grubby/sweaty/ill.I do it in the morn so their hair looks nice for school!

I have friends (adults) who pop over over in the evening every couple of weeks, but are always late because they had to have a bath before they come out!- can't understand it myself , seems a funny time- they work in an office!

childern · 01/04/2007 20:08

My two boys are bathed more often in the summer time, but I have dry skin and the yongest is the same, the oldest loves the shower so he tends to shower more

expatinscotland · 01/04/2007 20:11

Every other day here, although sometimes we have an extra one or two if they've had a particularly grubby day out in summer.

pinkchampagne · 01/04/2007 20:12

Every other day here too, unless they are ultra grubby!

crayon · 01/04/2007 20:19

All three boys, every day. I can't believe all these mothers of sons who only bath them a couple of times a week - maybe I have mucky children but they would be absolutely mucky/stinky after 3 days.

bozza · 01/04/2007 20:35

Most days here. Occasionally miss a night at the weekend if we have been out late. Also we have recently stopped Tuesdays because of DS's swimming lesson meaning he is in late, so no time for other things if we bath. So 5-6 times a week. I would cut down but DD is a bit subborn about it. TBH after 6 years of it I am a bit bored of bathing them.
