Unscientific survey ... how many of you bath you kids every day?

Because if the media are to be believed, the whole nation's kids are happily blowing bubbles in the bathtub of an evening, every bloody evening. Personally, my ds is lucky if he gets one a week! Maybe two, if my fingernails need cleaning. .

every day.

Always found it a good way of announcing the end of the day. Next step stories and bed. Just became part of the routine.

MrsFish · 01/04/2007 17:31

At the moment ds doesn't get too dirty so he has a bath every other night, sometimes it will be the third night in the cycle. I am sure at some point it will have to be more often, depends how much he will play outside when he is a bit older.

prawnsmum · 01/04/2007 17:32

I bath my son every night- im too scared not to now cause it's part of his betime routine!

twice a week. they both have eczema, it flares if they have more than that

CadburyCremeSquonk · 01/04/2007 17:35

dd1 - whenever I can get her in there.
dd2 & ds - usually about twice a week, more if we've done lots of messy play

sophiewd · 01/04/2007 17:37

Everyday with one of us, if we don't give her a bath she gets narky. Tries to climb back in when she is out as well.

Lullabunnyloo · 01/04/2007 17:38

yup...every evening since he was 10 days old.

DANCESwithaTruckLoadOfMiniEggs · 01/04/2007 17:39

Vast generalisation (sorry if someone has said this) but seems to be something you do with your first but not with subsequent (don't have time/energy/realise unnecessary...)

HEIFER · 01/04/2007 17:39

I (well DH) did with DD until she was at least 2.5 - just became part of her bedtime routine.

Now she is over 3 he does it most days but if DD too tired then he won't bother..

JackieNo · 01/04/2007 17:41

Nope - once a week, sometimes twice, unless they get particularly filthy for some reason. More in the summer.

brimfull · 01/04/2007 17:41

usually everyday in the summer because ds gets dirtier by playing outside,in the winter usually 2-3 times a week

growingbagpuss · 01/04/2007 17:42

Every night, unless we are really late home from a day out, or if he has had a bath in day due to revolting baby activity.... sometimes bathes twice a day!

Always part of bedtime routine, it doesn't disturb the routine if no bath, but its a good winding down activity... I agree with whoever it is who says its good because you get out of a warm bath, then cool down, and that makes you want to snuggle into a warm bed.... certainly works for us!!

PestoEasterMonster · 01/04/2007 17:45

Mine have one every evening as part of the routine. They are 9 & 7 and still love it. Especially dd1 now that she is in charge of running it. Afterwards they smell so soapy in their pajamas and are keen to get into bed for their story. (I am too and often read it with a glass of wine by my side )

MaeWest · 01/04/2007 17:45

We have only one 8 mo DS, so he gets a bath every night. Mostly because he enjoys it, also because DH enjoys it and he's the one who does it. DS is a pretty active baby and it seems to relax him at the end of the day.

ChocolateSucksWithoutSugar · 01/04/2007 17:48

Every day here, but maybe it's an age thing. dd is nearly 14 months and it's part of her bedtime routine.

dumbymummy · 01/04/2007 18:03

Interesting survey so far! Seems to be stacking against the media view that everybody bathes their kids every night (sigh of relief from me), and yet I've read some compelling reasons for doing so - especially freeing up some time, the removal of slime - and oh! the wine, wine, wine!!! Also agree with the comment about smelling nice in their pyjamas. Think I will give ds a bath tonight .... if only he'd sit down in it!

Depends how dirty he manages to get - but typically 2-3 times a week. Have never really been in the habit of doing it daily though as he had excema as a baby and too many baths exacerbated it.

Not me

ds got so mucky we had to install a rule of trying to bath him every other day - still don't succeed

we did used to do it, when he was younger, just for something to do, really. And he used to mostly enjoy it.

Oh and we never do it in the evening these days

he is too tired and there is not time

we do it in the morning and he will often spend a happy hour sploshing while I read a book

Normally every other night with DS1 but since DS2 came along 5 weeks ago has been more often as keeps DS1 happily occupied whilst DS2 breastfeeds. Difficult to keep him occupied during that early evening feed otherwise. DS2 on the other hand has only had 2 baths during his short life

Greenleeves · 01/04/2007 18:14

No, I can't see the point. They're children, they're grubby

We do them roughly twice a week, sometimes three times if there's been a major poo incident

I do blowdry their hir after their bath though so they go up to bed with dry hair. It's one of my great pleasures, watching them bobbing up the stairs to bed all clean and pink, with two neat little shiny blonde heads

lexcat · 01/04/2007 18:17

Once-twice a week but does go swimming twice a week and shower and hair wash at pool after swimming. In the summer most night dd gets filthy in the garden.
