Hi , I'm just curious what's people's views on smacking.

Before anyone gets on their soap box I literally mean a hand tap! Not beating or any force.

I remember when I was young I was smacked only when really playing up as a last resort. It never damaged me in any way.

Again only smack ( light hand tap) not legs and never face.

Like I say just curious

It really frustrates me when people say "Don't be rude! Respect other people's opinions!" when it comes to smacking. Because I'm not going to respect your opinion that you should have the right to physically attack your child. Your job as a parent is to model behaviour and teach your child to live in the world, not just to obey in the short term.

Smacking used to be commonly used and thought of as the right thing to do. In this day and age there is no use for continuing to use it, not when there's much information and resources to help you do a better job of parenting.

Am also perplexed by those who claim it's not violent or didnt hurt. It most certainly hurt when my dad smacked me!

My mum never smacked us that I can recall. My dad did, not often but it definitely damaged our relationship and has affected other areas of my life.

IMO its one of those things that was done in the past when people knew no better - we have evolved in so many ways and now to me raising your hand to your child is just plain wrong, not to mention pointless.

Totally agree with jinglehell. Asking me to "respect" a pro-smacker's view is like asking me to respect someones racist opinion or to "respect" the view that women should do the bulk of the housework because they are women. I just won't do it.
