Diolch cardibach for the idea!

I'm just getting started as a learner so that's my limit in Welsh so far!

This is where we can chat, use our Welsh as we are learning and give each other help/ advice/ encouragement, etc. Smile

Been learning bits all my life from family in Meirionnydd but went to college there for a year in 1987 and learned most of what I know

you should read what alexpolisman writes on this thread - she's in Greece but has become a real whizz

sorry this isn't in Welsh - crap day at college, no timetables , no rooms, none of the teachers know what students they have and they will all be arriving monday morning expecting to be taught something! off to open a bottle of wine.

sillyily · 06/09/2012 21:25

ok, bydd i wylio am alexpolisman! Mwynhau eich gwin! (??) Wine

alexpolismum · 18/09/2012 19:22

Heloooo!

Dyma fi wedi dod yn ol, wedi'r haf! Mae'r plant wedi dechrau i'r ysgol i gloi! Hwre!

Helo sillyily! Dyma neis, ffeindio pobl newydd ar yr edefyn.

Yn anffoddus, dw i'n methu a chanolbwyntio gyda'r gwres a'r plant, felly mi wnes i ddim llawer o Gymraeg drwy'r haf. Amser i weithio nawr!

gadewch i ni chwarae gyda'r frawddegau unwaith eto! Pwy ydy'n moyn trio?

gair heddiw: pobi

Yn yr haf, roedd hi'n rhy boeth i bobi llawer o bethau, ond mi bobiais i cacen gyda'r plant. Cacen siocled, wrth gwrs.

Hi

I want to learn Welsh. I know nothing these days....although I used to be able to read the signs in the supermarket and at Uni...(might be because they were bilingual though). Is it ok if I join in here? Or should I come back when I can do a little?
Thanks

Benaberry · 23/09/2012 00:03

I'll admit to not having gone through the whole thread, so apologies in advance...

Can anyone recommend a good beginners Welsh course? DH is Welsh (but doesn't speak a word beyond being able to count to ten), and I can only say good morning. We'd both love to learn the language so we can pass some onto our DS's. We no longer live in Wales, but hope to go back someday.

Any suggestions much appreciated

alexpolismum · 23/09/2012 20:39

Croeso!

Matildarabbit Of course you can join in! Just use as little or as much as you are able to.

Benaberry try this website it has a beginner's course you can download for free. It's all based around speaking, but it's a good way to get started.

That website looks great - thanks alexpolismum

Will probably now find I've been pronouncing my son's names all wrong (pretty sure we haven't, purposely chose relatively straightforward Welsh names seeing as we don't live there at the moment!)

alexpolismum · 02/10/2012 18:22

Has been a bit quiet on here recently.

I have got fed up with being the only Welsh learner in the family, so I am getting my dh in on the act. Plus, I have ordered asked some friends nicely if they would like to learn Welsh too.

My best friend has declared it to be more interesting than English, which she learnt at school and has had enough of. This morning she greeted me with "bore da", so we are making headway! I will soon have her learning a bit!

Helo pawb!

Dwi'n sori mae gen i ddim yn bod yma (I'm sorry I haven't been here?) I'm terrible at keeping up on threads. I've really let my welsh slip and feel like I'm back at the beginning now, and I got the job as a teacher. I know that in the next few weeks I'm going to have people looking at my welsh so I need to brush up again - I'm annoyed I let it slip so far Confused so I will be here a lot!

Cwestiwn cyntaf -

Beth ydy "what do you want for lunch?" Yn Gymraeg? The closest I can think of would be "Beth wyt ti eisiau am cinio?" Ond dwi'n ddim yn meddwl that's right

aufaniae · 10/10/2012 00:50

Nos da! :)

TwllBach · 10/10/2012 18:58

Noswaith da pawb Grin sut dach hi?

Mae gen i Helpwr Cymraeg yn fy nosbarth rwan - they take great pleasure in correcting me!

alexpolismum · 11/10/2012 18:49

Helo TwllBach!

Nice to hear that you've started in your teaching job. Hwre! It has been quiet on here for a while. Dw i'n gobeithio bydd pobl yn dod yn ol rwan, wedyn yr haf.

Take my advice and jump in at the deep end - try a book/ radio programme/ whatever it is that you personally like - all in Welsh. I like reading novels personally, so I have been having a go at reading in Welsh, and I have learned a lot of vocab and structures this way. You'll be amazed at how quickly your language can improve that way!

Wyt ti'n dysgu mewn ysgol Cymraeg?

Bore da pawb!

Dw i'n chwerthin lot heddiw! Yn y bore wnes i fynd i'r siop. Pan wnes i ddod yn ol, mi welais i'r postmon, sydd newydd cyrraedd i'r ty. "Bore da," mi ddweddais i.
"Bore da," dweddodd. "Mae gen i parsel i chi o Loegr."
"Diolch," mi ddweddais i.
"Ydw i'n gallu gofyn rhywbeth? Mi ddysgais i Saesneg i'r ysgol," dweddodd, "a roeddwn yn dda iawn. Ond dw i ddim yn cofio hynny. Beth ydy 'Post Brenhinol'?"

Ac hefyd, ydy "o hyn ymlaen" yn wir i dweud "from now on"??
