Diolch cardibach for the idea!

I'm just getting started as a learner so that's my limit in Welsh so far!

This is where we can chat, use our Welsh as we are learning and give each other help/ advice/ encouragement, etc. Smile

Do, mi glywes i amdano fo yn ddiweddar, mae Meri Huws yn wych. Roedd hi ar raglen ar S4C am Gymdeithas yr Iaith.

It's interesting. My husband works in Wrexham and was recently singled out amongst colleagues for using Welsh, his boss was concerned he might be passing things on furtively through a 'welsh network' Hmm

alexpolismum · 31/07/2012 07:47

Wow, look at this I'm really impressed that they've got it in Welsh! Hurrah!

eatyourveg diolch! What a great idea! What a great way to learn food related words.

I've made some Welsh cakes. It says to cook them on a griddle, which I don't have, so I improvised with a frying pan. They seem to have turned out all right, they're quite tasty! It says you can store them for 5 days, but the way the children are going I don't think we'll be storing anything for even 1 day!

On the website I found with Welsh recipes, it says "picau ar y Maen" too. I want to try this recipe next!

The 'maen' is the bakestone/griddle. I'm guessing that pice/picau are derived from pikelets which I think are also cooked on a bakestone though I may be way out. To my shame I've never made any - my dad is the welshcake baker in our family - and I wasn't particularly fussed on them but spread with a bit of jam they're a revelation. Blasus iawn.

alexpolismum · 31/07/2012 15:44

ooh, just tried one with apricot jam, it was lovely! Syniad gwych, mejon!

That site with the Welsh recipes has turned out to be a good way to keep the children occupied. Having eaten all the Welshcakes, they decided that more baking was in order. Why not, I thought. My dd is currently telling me that she is "pobi-ing" Grin

My ds1 has also told all the neighbours that I am fluent in Welsh! Grin My upstairs neighbour said to me yesterday that she was interested in it - she learnt English at school and would like to do something different. She works for the ambulance service, so it's not that she needs a new professional language qualification. I sadly had to explain to her that ds1 had been exaggerating and I was far from fluent.

Apologies for my lack of welsh but it's late and my brain is barely functioning in English :-) don't get to come on mn as often as id like, but would like to start speaking with like minded welsh learners!

Also, useless with mutations so any welsh I speak will prob not include them Smile

Picau/pice ar y maen is the south Wales name; the proper Northwalian name is cacennau cri. :o
