I got DD's boots from Boden back when they were 20% off in the preview, was way cheaper than anything comparable here and they are still doing fine (she doesn't wear them for school though).

Francagoestohollywood · 02/02/2010 19:30

88 euros? Are they pepe'???

Rosa · 02/02/2010 19:52

Yep its small but really the camera is too small for 2 beds which is the main problem. We have found an architect he needs 1 exam before laurea so he is great for giving us ideas / suggestions . DH was kicking him in karate a few hrs ago !!!!
So this chap is going to have a look for us.
Boots were Naturino....DD has narrow feet and when I bought a pair of birkenstocks on line 1 size up from the ones she was wearing they fell off her so am a bit wary of buying on line having said that am seriously going to look at Clarks on line and get sis to post them on !!!!

Yes, I made lots of mistakes buying shoes online, I don't think I'll ever do it again

I was all smug that I bought dd a very cheap pair of fake uggs for 5 euros, and then I wasn't able to resist a pair of Eureka shoes...

Sputnik · 02/02/2010 20:55

We gave the DCs the larger bedroom and took the smaller one for us, there's room for the bed + small wardrobe, no comodini or anything, but we just sleep in there anyway. Could you squeeze a double bed into the smaller camera?

Rosa · 02/02/2010 20:59

Nope it won't fit 2 beds unless bunk beds and I to be honest really don't like them and I never have....Plus we want them to have some 'playing' space.
Going to sleep on it and see what domani brings.
I used to be terrible at buying shoes any excuse now it seems to be comfy flat boring things mind you I did buy a 2 tone pair of purple suede boots....Hmmmm that sounds foul !!!

hello!

Rosa, list pros and cons, always difficult to tick all the boxes, but at least should tick mostt...

happy bday Sputnicks! hope you feel better soon

we mainly listen to our cds too, or if i put the radio on it's always classic, dp puts the music channels on for the dcs to dance occasionally. we have an mp3, but only copied our cds in it. but our old time favourites are the cooccodrilli - with my no. 1 being ninna nanna ninna o....

Camomilla · 02/02/2010 21:29

SG if you ever have time to come back and read, I can also reccomend the silverette nipple shields, looks like you have jean paul gautier nipple tassels on, but they seem to help

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 02/02/2010 22:14

Rosa it sounds as if there are more cons than pro to me. True one has to compromise but do not get something just because you are desperate. remember that you'll have to spend most of your days stuck there with ill children .

Franca are you not going to see the saviano play al Piccolo Teatro? I wish I could.

Buch I might need to ask you about holiday where you are. we are confused this year.

BananaGio · 03/02/2010 07:46

just emailed you Pippi, sorry took so long.
Have sinusitis and am on ABs . Feeling very sorry for myself and very very bored of being ill as seems to have been all winter. Plus was really enjoying going running and have had to knock that on head till better. Whinge whinge moan moan
Happy Bday for yesterday Sputniks. What have you decided re house Rosa-has sleep bought you a decision?
Lol at you lot and your music. Am so the same. Am stuck in a timewarp which ends circa 1997 or whenever it was the Spice Girls destroyed music in the UK. Still can't beat the Stone Roses, Charlatans and Oasis (as were) in my humble opinion.I am actually quite shocked at how out of touch I have become. Used to be a music obsessed NME reading girl. Now I listen to the same 3 CDs all the time.Have a million things on my Ipod in my sister in laws attempt to bring me up to date and still listen to the same 3 discs....

Sputnik · 03/02/2010 08:30

Ah you poor thing Gio, if you have some clenil try an aerosol wth that it's fab for sinusite.

I am feeling if anything crapper today, at least DH did school run.

Strange this discussion of music. DD recently seems to have grown out of insisting on kiddie music in the car so have been listening to other stuff for the first time in years, but no idea where to start with new music. DS is much more easy-going but I still often put nursery rhymes and stuff for him to help with his language.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2010 10:04

Hi so sorry you two are feeling ill. Gio, my tip for sinusitis is Acqua di Sirmione. I've been inhaling it for 2 days and have been taking OKI (anti infiammatorio) twice a day and it seems to be working.

We've been subjected to the tyranny of nursery rhymes (both english and zecchino d'oro) and fiabe sonore (english and italian) for yrs now, but luckily now ds will happily listen to some rock music. (And they both like David Bowie, hurrah!)

Bucharest · 03/02/2010 10:13

Dd likes Neil Diamond and Lily Allen.....
Happy Birthday for yesterday Sput!
Hope your sinusitis gets better soon Gio, I know how vile it is when your head is exploding.
Gio, I so agree about music, I was wondering if it was me who thought the music world ended in 1997 (I remember getting up early to go to Asda and buy Be Here Now the day it came out) Now I listen to radio 2 all day and like some stuff, but not others..
Still no closer to sorting dp's mp3 out. D/loaded one of the dodgy free softwares yesterday, which immediately linked me to hideous tits and bums stuff. so un downloaded and spent the rest of the day cyber scrubbing with cyber bleach to get rid of all traces. Yurk.
Talking to schoolmum friend yesterday about my humilating experience on Saturday and guess what! Their maestra has bollocked them for the opposite! "Voi non dovete andare via se non c'e la maestra!" Dd's maestra was there very very early today, I think she must have been told about the hoohah.
Other friend was in tears this morning as her son (she's the divorced one) was mocked in front of the whole class yesterday for getting some spellings wrong and has refused to come to school today.

Sputnik · 03/02/2010 10:44

Sorry about your friend's son Buch, poor kid.

Bowie's "Changes" was one of the first things we slipped under DD's musical radar on the grounds that it was used in Shrek 2.

Sputnik · 03/02/2010 10:47

Is Lily Allen the one that does that "Fuck you very much" song? I keep hearing it in the supermarket and it's a bit disconcerting.

Bucharest · 03/02/2010 10:49

Yes, I think she is! Although at the moment dd keeps singing the "why oh why would I want to be anywhere else" song that was on the Royle Family at Christmas. (my arse )

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2010 10:55

I sing it as "Thank you very very muuuuuuuuch" to the kids. And I don't think they know what fuck you means... ahhhhh blessed times when we were in the UK, they were too young to know English swear words and Italian ones didn't have a market iyswim...

Poor boy, Buch. Who mocked him?

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2010 10:56

And there is also the other one from LA about her man not being good in the sack.... I love it

DelGirl · 03/02/2010 11:01

ciao a tutti

I see it was your birthday yesterday Sputnik,. Happy birthday, hope you had a lovely day. I didn't realise our birthdays were so close as it's mine on Friday lol.

Anyway, sorry, I am on the scrounge for some info if any of you get a spare moment. We are coming over next Weds to meet with the builders and we want to take some ideas for kitchens and bathrooms.

I've googled cucina & bagno etc in Lazio but so far have not found anything I like though admittedly, i've not found many sites.

The house is a 17th century farmhouse but we have the top floor which is now an apartment.

Thinking of maybe going freestanding in the kitchen but we will want a decent amount of work top. Thinking dressers maybe??

Bathrooms .....I fancy going quite modern. There will be a bathroom and then a separate shower come utility room. I hope you don't mind me posting on here and I apologise for my infrequent needy posts in advance . Can anyone help? Doesn't have to be in Lazio but preferably or on the Umbria border in case we need go and look. Grazie

Sputnik · 03/02/2010 11:04

DD hasn't progressed beyond the word "bloody".
Usually followed by the word "ikea".

Sputnik · 03/02/2010 11:19

Ciao Delgirl,
it's quite common in old farmhouses to "build" the kitchen units, the call it a kitchen "in muratura", actually that's what we did (badly!) in our Sabina place and stuck a granite worktop on top. My SIL and BIL did the saem thing, the "walls" are covered in tiles then they got ikea kitchen doors and stuck them on, there's a small picture if you scroll down here it came out really nice. I think they used terracotta tiles on the worktops too, not sure though and you can't tell from the picture.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2010 11:22

Delgirl, your first port of call for bathrooms is ideal standard, which is sold in lots of "negozi idrosanitari" (you might google that and see what comes up for lazio/umbria). It's well known italian brand, good quality at good price and also does taps.
You also might want to look at www.ceramicaglobo.com/. Then there is www.pozzi-ginori.com/, which is a bit more expensive.

For the kitchen, have a look at scavolini, it has lots of shops.
If you have a big budget I recommend cucine Varenna. If you have a huuuuuuge budget cucine Boffi

Otherwise, you need to trail some shops. Lots of shops sell cheaper kitchen alongside posh ones... we got ours in a posh place for 4000 euros, including oven and fornelli.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/02/2010 11:27

Oh yes, you could of course have the kitchen done in muratura...

DelGirl · 03/02/2010 11:28

wow, is that the place in Tuscany? It's mahoosive. Yes I like that and have seen a few like that but with very dark tiles and wood and I think it needs to be lighter for our place. I guess until all the building is done and you see the light it's hard to tell. Thank you.

Looking forward to being there next week and should be free fri night or sat am, whichever suits you. My bro will probably be asleep but I'll have the car as he doesn't drive! I think we may try out the pizzeria in Forcella as that will be our 'local'. Can't wait. Hope you're feeling better soon. Off to supermarket now ....ciao
