oh I could belt the man!! DP was talking about going to FILs Tuesday after the docs as is round the corner from his. I don't want him to do that, I want to see him first so I said why not go tomorrow instead because I wanted to meet you after the docs so we could go for some food nearby. DP said fine. Is now on phone to FIL who said not not tomorrow, come Tues after docs so DP, not knowing why I want to see him straight after has agreed. I am SO ANGRY with FIL I could scream. Does he not think maybe I want to see DP afterwards??? Selfish bastard!!! AIBU????

Gio I am always apalled by the drs malpractice in italy. It is beyond me how they are allowed to say something to anyone else and not the patient.

Can you not put the foot down or invent something and not go?

think I am going to go for a walk that way on Tues and just happen to be outside the docs when he comes out so I get to see him first!I want to talk to him before he sees FIL so I can attempt to put a balanced reaction on things before he gets 4 hours of "you're doomed" fed in his ear. Re putting my foot down it's difficult as I am not meant to bloody know anything and DP just said to me-we can go out another night, you don't mind do you, knowing normally I wouldn't mind at all.

I am so at your FIL and at the dr!! Idiots both of them.

When dh was told of that lump he didn;t tell me anyhting till he got the results (I didn't like that but he didn't want me to worry for a possible no reason) and no dr told me anything even though I was there everyday. My mum being italian and I suppose being used to italian ways was insisting that I speak to the dr in case dh was hiding somethign from me (how did she know that I don;t know) and I was very much against this in principle. Surely one is entitled to whatever privacy he wants, no?

I see. Yes I thing you should be outside the dr. He would know why you are there once he comes out and you would not have to lie anymore. Would you be able to tell him that you already knew?

I think I will to be honest.I hate having to keep anything from him, I feel FIL has put me in a very difficult position and the only reason I am keeping my mouth shut is because I don't want him straight on the phone to FIL being worried if it turns out there is nothing to really worry about.I am totally uncomfortable with knowing something like this before him.

That's exactly how I'd feel and it is so unfair FIL put you in this situation. He should have not known himself. And once he did he should have either kept it to himself or tell his son. Why you???? To offload. Very selfish man - but even I knew that!!!!

Gosh Gio, what difficult situation. I'd be so tempted to tell everything to dh, but you are right, why having him worried too?
By all means meet him after the doc and stop fil interfering!

I find that new generations of doctors here in Italy are different and would never discuss a patient's conditions with a third party. At least this is my experience. Younger doctors also have much better bedside manners than those in their 60s. There is hope, I hope...

I more mundane kind of help needed here: DD1 has been sick on sofa . More than sponge it down a million times with soapy warm water is there anything else I kind do? Would the smell eventually go? [yuk]

Don't think I can wash covers...They come off but not sure they'll go back on once washed. Maybe a no spin cold wash? I dreaded this day.

2. Oh dear re the covers. I once washed mine (from Ikea) and they didn't go back on . Why not leave it and see if tomorrow is still smelling? I'd do a cold wash, no spinning, yes.

She sounds a nightmare Pippi. In fact, she sounds like my FIL. Same quanto sono sfortunato attitude re everything. It's so exhausting being round people like that, they drain the energy out of you. Sometimes I want to shake FIL and say-look at what you've got, you live in an apartment with no mortgage in the centre of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, your son and grandson live round the corner, you are retired but financially better off than most working people thanks to mental level pension he receives!, you are still independent. Can't you bloody see it!!! Like you say about SIL Pippi he looks at everyone else with envy- ah yes but his son lives piano sotto and visits everyday blah blah blah!
You can tell I am harbouring a lot of anger towards FIL at the moment vero? .
Does your SIL have kids Pippi? How often do you see her? Any joy getting sick out?

Exactly like you say Gio. Draining. You want to shake them and make them open their eyes or send them to see how most people leave.
She has got children yes and they are lovely. but she is so negative... the eldest is very bright and was saying yesterday that she might try to go to oxbridge. She said "oh you don;t want to do that!! it's full of public school people you'll be an outsider!!" WTF!??!!

I have still got the bicarbonate on. will hoover later. PJ day here as dd1 too weak to go to school.

Poor kids! They'll end up with an inferiority complex! Again FIL is like that-he is full of negativity towards DP, never encourages him in anything and when I asked him once about it he said he doesn't want DPs hopes and dreams built up to be dashed as he couldn't bear to see him hurt so basically he prefers to (constantly) knock him down so DP never gets to that stage!
Is DD1 feeling any better?

Ciao a tutti! I'm English and my partner Luca is Italian. We have two daughters, 5 and 11 months and live in Thornton Heath close to Crystal Palace and South Norwood. We're bringing them up bilingually but finding it difficult now the eldest is at school and she's speaking English to the younger one. So we're looking for an Italian School/Club for the eldest and Italian playgroup for the little one. Does anyone know of anything in the area? We're also thinking of setting one up if there isn't anything here - would anyone be interested?
