Hello, welcome, benvenuti

OP posts:
TheWestsideMasseuse · 07/12/2009 14:38

hello everyone. SG sorry about your dh and yes i do hope you don't catch it.

to totally lower the tone of the thread (or to lower totally the tone of the thread? never know what's the done thing with split infinitives), i went to see New Moon last night witha friend and totally loved it [hides in shame]

i think i am basically a 34 year old teenager with bad boy complex

Camomilla · 07/12/2009 14:49

oh, SG, hope MrSG's better. and if it helps, I never saw anyone from the antenatal course after it finished, but I've become friends with a couple I met at the postnatal one at the local surgery, so don't dispair

better get dressed and go get DS, it's puoring still!!!!!

minervaitalica · 07/12/2009 17:22

Hello! Sorry to have disappeared but the weekend just flew away without me achieving much. Went to a Xmas market in Austria, but I probably would have preferred the piazza Navona one (I like noisy and disorderly ones ). And besides, DD was having a bad day.

SG, I hope things have improved - try to enjoy the ante-natal course (I did), and I found that I did keep in touch with the people I wanted to keep in touch with - as you need/want the support at that early stage.

Westside Masseuse - I love Twilight et al. I just do not say it loudly. I even forced DH to read the books.

I am not looking at Kercher thread - I hate the whole British "our system is better" but then bugger off to the Costas/Tuscany/Provence moaning about the UK going to the dogs... I shall instead focus on Santa Lucia coming this Sunday...

Rosa · 07/12/2009 18:04

am here and bookmarking ...busy ....

gio71 · 07/12/2009 19:39

re Xmas market in Austria Minerva. Piazza Navona is great but for me a Xmas market should be more like the German style ones with cold crisp weather et al. Did you drink lots of Gluwein?
Masseuse sssssh but I also like Twilight. They are terribly written, annoying main characters blah blah but there is something weirdly addictive about them.
SG how is your DH?

Sputnik · 07/12/2009 19:59

Totally agree with your last paragraph there MI.
Last time I went to the Piazza Navona market was probably nearly 20 years ago, it was a bit of a scrummage, Gio would it be worth taking my DD do you think? Would it be totally mad to do it the saturday before xmas?

Got our tree up and running

Francagoestohollywood · 07/12/2009 21:10

Ohhhhh at the Christmas market in Austria (and at the one in piazza navona as well).

I do have a bad boy complex (see my obsessive crush on Scamy), but I haven't managed to develop any curiosity towards the twilight saga, even if my sil has been raving about it for a goodwhile now. I also don't find that Pattison actor fancyable. Boh!!! I still have a soft spot for buffy and angel!

I must say that the thread about knox wasn't as bad as I exptected, apart from the odd comment.
However, it appears that Hillary Clinton has been asked to launch an investigation on the trial... bah!

Francagoestohollywood · 07/12/2009 21:13

Ah Masseuse, was it you who recommended The interepreter of malady?
I've just finished reading the first story "A matter of time" I think is the title, and it is superb, just perfect!!!

gio71 · 07/12/2009 21:51

Sput is still a scrummage but def worth a visit I reckon. Good place to get your Befana stocking, sweets and carbone! Babbo Natale was there on Sun and ds was mesmorised. He read out his letter and promised him his presents and ds hasn't stopped going on about it!

SuiGeneris · 07/12/2009 22:32

DH is now better, thank you all! Still ill, on restricted diet and in the spare room, but at least no more vomiting and fever. I have, predictably, now got his cold, but I hope only that.
Antenatal course was interesting, even though nothing new, looking forward to the next session on Wed- hopefully with DH and by car... The place turned out to be difficult to find, so am now typing this on the iPod from bed with pgp...
So Twilight is good? Will have a look next time I am in the library. What is the latest instalment and how recent is it, please? Friends' teenage daughter likes it, so would be ideal Xmas present.
Gio- what memories you have triggered with carbone dolce....

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/12/2009 09:09

I used to love Piazza Navona as a child but now it seems to me that it?s become tackier, cheaper, rowdier and less authentic (like everything else?). but not sure whether it really has, or it?s just me growing old!

We used to go all the time with my dad who is a presepio fanatic, to buy one new piece every year. He?s promised dd1 he?ll take her. Dh also loves it cos he can have panino con la porchetta which is his guilty secret when in Rome.

SG glad your dh is a bit better and hope you don?t catch it, although if you do, better now than later no? it is unfortunately fairly normal to get all sorts of nasty bugs in late pregnancy, your immune system has probably had enough?. Re Twilight I don?t think there?s any ?thirthysomething?teenage girl who hasn?t read the whole saga (4 books) at least once so I?d bet your friends? dd has already read it. Buy her a Robert Pattinson calendar maybe ? I so wish my dds were old enough to be into it so I could loudly disapprove of posters on the wall while secretly ogling the boy all day long. I think my obsession is out of control, probably even worse than Franca?s Scami thing. I spent the whole evening last night watching youtube videos of RP, he has such a sexxxshy posh English accent (a bit like our Jimmy).

Do y?all think I need help?

gio71 · 08/12/2009 09:35

it is tacky but I reckon it seems that way as we are adults. Think for kids it must just seem magical. Mmmm I had panino con la porchetta di Arricia when I went, worth going for that alone Sput . Oh and the hot chestnuts.
SG there are 4 Twilight books. Series is now finished so chances are your friends daughter will have read them all by now.

PincoPallino · 08/12/2009 10:28

Gio great post on the knox thread.

Panino con la porchetta is also our not so guilty treat! Cannot wait!!! Yum Yum! I wish I could have one now.

Gio' I love Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori. Before we come you'll have to give me a few tips on where to go, where to eat etc.

We have done a lovely Presepe here. Dh, the atheist, has spent most of sunday building la capanna for Giuseppe, Maria, il Bue e l'Asinello. DDs are mesmerised.

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/12/2009 10:53

so who's going to be in Rome over the holidays? i am going to be there 22nd dec- 3rd jan, if anyone fancies meeting up

Francagoestohollywood · 08/12/2009 10:54

Hello!
SG, glad to hear your dh is on the mend. And yes, I too was prone to catch colds when pg (and non pg. I once had 7 violent colds in 4 months. An English friend of mine claimed it was because I wasn't immune to english bugs )

Pinco, oh yes, children love presepi . Have you collected the muschio? And Masseuse I had to smile at your memory of buying a statuetta every yr. Do we all had the same childhood in the 70s?

I'll go and read Gio's post on the other thread, despite having promised not to go back to that thread again, as I thought that some were too passionate about the whole thing.

I love panino con la porchetta too. I want to go to rome!

I really, really recommend evryone to read Jhumpa Lahiri "Interpreter of maladies", I can't put it down.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/12/2009 10:56

did we all have. Sorry, bad, bad english today

Francagoestohollywood · 08/12/2009 10:58

Oh Masseuse, we'll probably be in the le marche for new year's eve...
I think sputnik and gio will be in england for christmas.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/12/2009 11:04

Gio, what a great post. I think you should post more often, on every subject... I'd follow you around and post: "I agree with gio71"

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/12/2009 11:08

yes Gio great post, very lucid and to the point.

gio71 · 08/12/2009 11:25

thanks for the support ladies! I promised myself I wouldn't get drawn into the thread and now I am .
at the idea of Franca following Gio around to agree.
Pinco yes of course will recommend restaurants etc to you. Do you like fritti? There is one in the centre that does THE best fritti in Rome, so light you can (and I do ) eat plates of the stuff. And great Amatriciana as well. Mmmm c'ho fame!

Francagoestohollywood · 08/12/2009 11:32

Pasta all'amatriciana. Oh. I think pasta all'amatriciana is one of the best thing in the world ever.

gio71 · 08/12/2009 11:32

MM just seen your post re being in Rome, we are back from the UK on the 30th. There is a slight possibility we will go fuori Roma for New Year but otherwise will be here. Email me anyway and we can swop numbers and see if we can arrange meeting up. A vin brulé in Campo dei fiori would be nice

PincoPallino · 08/12/2009 11:35

We like everything. Will speak sooner to the time. It's a long way but can you tell I cannot wait!!!

Yes we did collect muschio and sassolini and made a pond and a road and a mountain with snow. And yes one new personaggio every year! Like I said even Dh loves it. Cheesy things are the best at Xmas ! Will post a picture.

What do you want for Xmas girls. I need ideas. Not books as I have loads on my Amazon wish list.

minervaitalica · 08/12/2009 11:42

SG - glad things are better - keep us posted on the ante-natal stuff - I miss all those pre-birth things!

OK, I will check the gio71 post now... But only because it's you.

MM, I have been secretly googling RPattz for a while and deleting cookies so DH would not find out (embarrassed emoticon). I did not think he was worth looking at, until I read the Twilight series. And by the way, there are 4 1/2 books in the series. The 1/2 is Midnight sun, which is basically a rewrite of the first book from Edward's perspective and can be found on the author's website. Unfortunately S Meyer has not finished it yet as she got angry at someone putting an initial draft over the internet - hence it's an incompiuta (hopefully not for too long!).

Franca, I think you should be reading the series and get addicted too!

Rosa · 08/12/2009 12:41

Minirosa has been teething so have had little sleep and any sapare time has been doing all the things I have to do !!!
Cleaner back from the Ukraine after being away for 4 mths - sheer bliss .
Our nativity scene is all the cheapest bits from the Sme and I have agreed with dh that in a few years time we will start buying nice bits. We only have carta in ours as it is on the dresser for obvious toddler reasons and we also seem to have a train and pokoyo and Iggle piggle in there !!!!!
We will be in the Uk for Xmas and new year and we should be going to Tenerife on the 9th but we still have to book it and I am scared at looking at flights incase they have gone sky high. I want dh to look at the hotel and agree its ok ( incase its crap so I don't take the blame !)
I need to catch up with you all but if I don't manage Gio have a fabbo time in the Uk and Buon Natale .....
