Sunny weather = An ugly nation?

This weather does not become the people living in the UK.

I have seen so much pink, wobbly, flesh today I was in danger of screaming 'Sausage' in a very loud voice.

I am not a body fascist.. but why oh why oh why (!!!) must people flash their flesh when it is pale and pink and flabby?

I have to agree any hint of sunshine and we are subjected to all sorts of exibtionism. Pet hates - Men with beer bellies with T shirt off tucked into jeans. Women with hideous feet in sandals or flip flops (I hate feet). Men in any kind of sandals. Strappy tops and burnt shoulders.

Delicate strappy tops and enormous grey bra straps - NOOOOOOOOO!!

I thought those were my pet hates until I as at the East of England Show this afternoon.......

HIDEOUS sights of women like sticks (literally - no figure at all) dressed in practically nothing - yes you can show too much flab, but IMO if you ain't got a figure at all it's just as bad.

AND even WORSE women with absolutely NO breasts whatsoever trying to wear skimpy bikinis????? WHY??? You've got nothing to show love, and you look like a prepubescent teenage girl!!!!

The French/Italians would never have such undignified displays would they?

Men should not be allowed to take their tops off in public. OK, on the beach maybe - but in Tesco???!!!

I sent the afternoon working at a fair and couldn't get away from the jiggling pasty bits of others. I managed in jeans and a short sleaved shirt, I felt no urge to show my bra or cellulite.

And I've already given my view on muffin tops here and, once the sun comes out, it's Muffin Tops Writ Large.

this weather makes me sad in a way, as we are such an unhealthy nation (me included)...

but if we had this weather all the time (like Med countries)I'm sure we'd all shape up a bit.

Have lived in Zimbabwe for 2 1/2yrs I can confidently say I met a good share of VERY large (mainly) women out there..........and trying to squash onto a 'combi' (minibus designed to seat 10, but actually seating 15-18 used as public transport) with 3 large women on the same row as you, in 33 degrees................nope we're not the only unhealthy people are

Ah, but in Africa doesn't it count as "traditionally built"? I'm going on my vast experience of Africa - ie., the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series, which are set in Botswana.

I remember an American student at Uni saying "what is it about hot weather that convinces fat women that they look good in tight white shorts?" this was when we had the 3 day summer in Glasgow, and the other US student was flying the flag for Florida, with gross white shorts.

No - it's supposed to be a sign of 'wealth' - if you're 'big' then you've obviously got enough money to buy enough food to eat..........although it seems quite a large proportion of 'big ladies' live in the poorer suburbs .

African men also 'apprently' like 'big women' especially with big bums ...........guess my DH isn't one of the 'norm' - I had NO bum when I met him, and now have a bum made from cellulite

My particular hate is spaghetti straps. How do other women with breasts larger than AA manage them? The options seem to be:

• wear them with bra straps showing (naff naff naff as already mentioned)
• wear transparent plastic bra straps (seen in Germany)
• dont take your jacket off (hot)
• no bra (not an option in my case)
• wear a sleeveless T shirt underneath (new option this year, layered look v fashionable)

Every year for the past 5 years or so, Ive been praying that the horrid things would go out of fashion, but they havent! and I have a dress and a top, but still no best solution for wearing them.

What is with those 'transparent' bra straps?

Errrrr...I can see them! Everyone can see them!

Is it like the Emperors's new clothes where we all go along with the collective and pretend?

Or are you supposed to look at them all squinty eyed and then they're invisible...yeah, right.

well, I suppose they dont show at a distance. At least they look as though youve made more of an effort than just showing white (or grey) bra straps.

Mine were bad when I was bf-ing but have sunk back into oblivion now.

Apparently, wotserface from Desperate Housewives...oooh Superman's tottie...Teri Hatcher (thankyou brain) has a real problem with protruding nipples and Desperate Housewives required much digital adjustment before it was fit for American TV.

The thing is naked bodies even if fat are beautiful, its when they are bulging out of tight denim skirts, crop tops and grey bras with straps digging in that it all goes horribly wrong.

Also if you have hooves for feet painting your toe nails and squashing them into a pair of strappy sandals that leave your little toe sticking out is not on!!!! Visit a chiropidist or at least a blacksmith put do not wear peep toe shoes, toes should not peep !!!!!!!!!

Unicorn I have nipples that you can still tune into RAdio Caroline with [grin. I wear t-shirt style bras most of the time, manage to get ones in M&S that suit as most of them are a bit to push up and out for me.

That is so true, Skribble - dress to make the best of what you've got, and to be comfortable. It's this trying to cram it into things only suitable for pre-pubescent schoolgirls which makes it all go horribly wrong.
