Sunny weather = An ugly nation?

unicorn · 18/06/2005 23:03

This weather does not become the people living in the UK.

I have seen so much pink, wobbly, flesh today I was in danger of screaming 'Sausage' in a very loud voice.

I am not a body fascist.. but why oh why oh why (!!!) must people flash their flesh when it is pale and pink and flabby?

Skribble · 20/06/2005 23:23

Yeh it just shows how crap we are at keeping cool!

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 23:25

tb - dont worry. Really. I am so very embarrassed to be whining on. I mean I havent even the balls to use my real name.

unicorn · 20/06/2005 23:25

maybe I should have stuck this in the style thread...
I am simply trying to compare us and our European neighbours, who do seem to cope with the hot weather, much better than us.

Sorry it is offending anyone.

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 23:26

Exactly, Skribble. It's hard enough as it is, without being made to feel that the sight of our large boobs makes you feel queasy, or that we shouldn't wear sandals because we don't have pretty feet.

Skribble · 20/06/2005 23:30

If your going to be offended please be accurate.
It wasn't big boobs, it was boobs swinging out of her top while she power washed. I did not snear or pass comment I went inside.

I don't think any feet are pretty its my personal problem I hate sandals on anyone and feet with big claw nails and broken heals just make me worse.

WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 23:32

No, you didn't comment to them, but you commented to us, mentioning the FFs that made you queasy. I don't particularly care how it made your MIL and her friend feel, but I know how it made me feel, reading that. And THAT is what I am commenting on, how reading the comments on this thread makes ME feel.

I'm not after an argument, I'm not posting aggressively or rudely; I am making my point just as you are making yours.

Skribble · 20/06/2005 23:39

Again FF's don't make me queasy. My boobs have been so big I struggled to find anywhere that sold my size. If you want to wear strappy tops with no bra and skirts that are to small good luck to you. If you are self concious you probably don't any way. So this isn't a personal dig is it.

I am not arguing or being aggressive, but I have felt the need to justify my posts. Obviously some have found them rude.

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 23:41

I have cracked heals. I try really hard to stop them cracking as it is painful. They arent too bad right now just a bit dry. I know lots of people with diabetes have cracked feet and 'clawed' toenails and that they have to regulary see a podiatrist due to this. It is linked to thier diabetes.. also they are usually of a larger size. Oh and mine are one up from a double F.

Skribble · 20/06/2005 23:45

Quite familiar with feet conditions my FIL has diabetes and oh wears sandals. I have already said I hate all feet. I shall leave this thread now as you seem intent to take offence at everything I say, so sorry and goodbye.

unicorn · 20/06/2005 23:48

oh blimey...
wish I'd never started this!!!!

It was lighthearted and general, and not digging at anyone.

I too have cracked heels, fat ankles, a wobbly belly ++++ more..
Am I not allowed an opinion about our nation in the sun... should that be censored?

OP posts:
rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 23:48

ffs do i offend everyone.

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 23:50

I wasnt trying to censor. I responded cos it touched a nerve - actually lots of them. not this threads fault... my own. Dont know what the hell is going on right now and am so so so embarrassed

unicorn · 20/06/2005 23:53

sorry rock+hp.. hope you are ok...

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 21/06/2005 09:09

Rock&hp... I am pretty much the same size as you, and have been feeling very raw since all the summer clothes have come out (especially the lack of tops with wide enough straps to cover "sturdy" bras!).

I think its just a summer to make us feel like poo (with or without comments on her )

I say we wibble and be proud!

WigWamBam · 21/06/2005 09:42

But unicorn, your original post (and the posts which followed it) had nothing to do with our nation's response to the sun, and whether other nations cope better; it appeared to be a dig at people flashing wobbly, flabby flesh.

Of course you're allowed an opinion, and I would never suggest that your opinion should be censored, but it seemed to be digging at people whose bodies aren't perfect, and I just wanted to know why wanting to feel the sun on our skin, and dress to try and keep cool and comfortable, is so offensive to some people.

I'm not interested in stirring or causing an argument, I just want to know why it's OK for people with perfect bodies to flash the flesh, but those of us with less than perfect bodies are deemed "ugly" (as the title of your post) and should keep our skin covered.

Nightynight · 21/06/2005 10:29

well my body's not perfect, so I keep it covered up with cool cotton... flame, flame, flame...

CountessDracula · 21/06/2005 10:35

WWB I'm sorry you were offended by my comments. Actually I was commenting on the fact that in this country there seem to be a lot more very obese people than used to be the case and how odd that is, not something that used to be a common sight at all.

In fact it doesn't bother me at all to see "wobbly" flesh on display, it is up to individuals how they dress. I get my bingo wings out in this weather!

Sorry again if I offended.

QueenFlounce · 21/06/2005 10:40

at this thread!!! I can't believe some of the comments here about "fat" people.

Who do you all think you are!?! and at this kind of talk. Maybe most of it is tongue in cheek, but alot isn't!

Just read the whole thread. I agree that it started off as being light hearted and no malice was intended. However with a subject like this people will always take offence as weight is such a sensitive issue. It's like the breastfeeding/bottle feeding debates on here - people always say 'I don't want an argument but' and it always degenerates into one as people have such strong opinions on the subject, just like this one.

Tortington · 21/06/2005 10:52

compo - stop being so clearly sensible. i don't want and argument but i bet you wear strappy dresses with mucky bra's

(is that the right use of an apostophe?)

DaddyCool · 21/06/2005 10:53

you can't prevent people from wearing skimpy things! sure, you'll eliminate the heinus folks with pink wobbly muffin tops but what about all the sexy yummy mummies with their little skirts, tube tops and high heels!! they are what make the summer great!

DaddyCool · 21/06/2005 10:54

.. sorry.

rockandhardplace · 21/06/2005 10:54

just wanted to apologise if my over sensitivity caused any bad feeling. Feeling a bit better today - got my sleevless vest type to on (thick straps from tesco) With my wobbley pink arms showing (unfortunately i dont tan being a red head - and yes i do lather on the sun cream). Not brave enough for shorts right now tho.

compo · 21/06/2005 10:54

custardo? I never said I didn't!!
