Sunny weather = An ugly nation?

This weather does not become the people living in the UK.

I have seen so much pink, wobbly, flesh today I was in danger of screaming 'Sausage' in a very loud voice.

I am not a body fascist.. but why oh why oh why (!!!) must people flash their flesh when it is pale and pink and flabby?

an update on the horrible straps: at the weekend, travelling round Germany, I saw 3 women who had fixed this problem by wearing coloured bikini tops instead of bras under the spaghetti straps. They looked good!

DaddyCool · 21/06/2005 11:01

or men in string vests lol.

Nightynight · 21/06/2005 11:02

I think it is safe to say that most women dont lust after men in string vests...

lol DC trust you Have to say I agree tho. I can quite happily ignore all the big beer bellies as I get to see some nicely honed male flesh too. Rarely notice what other people are wearing anyway and hope they dont notice me either

DaddyCool · 21/06/2005 11:05

well i don't think men go for thick grey straps lol. but coloured bikini straps under skimpy tops... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

QueenFlounce · 21/06/2005 11:05

Beetroot - lol thats true.

rockandhardplace · 21/06/2005 11:11

I wish i had small boobs then i could buy all the pretty bras and bikini tops instead of the boulder holders i have to buy. Admittedly they can still be pretty (mine are except for the one 'support' bra) but they cost so so much money that my always look worn out cos i cant replace them..

When i am sure i have finished have babies and if i am lucky enough to have money i would have a boob job and get them downsized.

QueenEagle · 21/06/2005 11:14

Crikey, this thread makes me really glad that I am a naturist so don't have to worry about looking "good" in anything or bulging out in all the wrong places.

teeavee · 21/06/2005 11:26

are you really a naturist, QE?
wow! where do you do that, then?

I agree that this thread has quite a bit of body fascism in it, which is a bit depressing, but inevitable perhaps when a large portion of society aspires to looking like celebs and having boob jobs, liposuction and the rest...why can't we accept each other and stop worrying about our appearance?
I'm as paranoid as the rest of you - I have NEVER worn a bikini in my life, would never go topless, etc...
Shame summer has to mean waxing, fake-tanning, slimming - such a lot of hard work!

snafu · 21/06/2005 11:28

QE

tarantula · 21/06/2005 11:30

I ahve to agree with you there Teeavee I didnt wear shorts this weekend not simply cos I couldnt be arsed to shave my legs (there werent any razors so would have had to go shopping too ). way too much like hard work in this kinda weather.

you nose fascist dinosaur

noddyholder · 21/06/2005 12:00

fake tan and loose linen clothes and flip flops look good on everyone and pretty achievable but there is nothing we can do about squidgy summer bodies EVERYONE gets hot

DaddyCool · 21/06/2005 12:00

you're so discriminatory dinosaur. bogging people are humans too!

unicorn · 21/06/2005 12:05

But can't we agree that the Europeans (whoops we're European too!)ie the French/Spanish/Italians, who have more of this weather than we do, cope with it better, and suit it better.
(Any mumsnetters who live in those countries with views?)

Our skin, as a anglo-saxon nation is not predispositioned to the sun.

DaddyCool · 21/06/2005 12:09

true unicorn but the sun shines so rarely here that one must take full advantage of it when it does. i've spent the last week (i was on holiday) wearing nothing but shorts, flip flops and the occasional 'wife beater' (muscle shirt, not that i have any muscles! lol)

handlemecarefully · 21/06/2005 12:31

and why oh why oh why not!

Tsk! live and let live....

champs · 21/06/2005 15:15

erm...... sory in advanced, i am trying to keep hormones out of my post and put things into perspective before I type so sorry if I fail.

  1. I have to agree that a lot of posts were derogatory(sp!!) towards bigger people.
  2. not everyone who lives in britain are anglo saxon and as such surely the nation cannot be classes as having anglo-saxon skin what a weird post.
