Sunny weather = An ugly nation?

This weather does not become the people living in the UK.

I have seen so much pink, wobbly, flesh today I was in danger of screaming 'Sausage' in a very loud voice.

I am not a body fascist.. but why oh why oh why (!!!) must people flash their flesh when it is pale and pink and flabby?

Oooh, more places I can go to buy sandals! Thank you.

basketcase · 19/06/2005 11:34

I am wearing my "trailer trash" dress as my sister kindly describes it. Flowery floaty number that is very cool, makes no effort to pull in my lumpy bits and looks like Miss Piggy in a potato sack. Truly awful - but, hey, it is comfy and ok for in the house. Most importantly it is the coolest (temp. wise) clothing I own so I don?t care. Saying that, I care enough to never answer the front door in it and would rather burn in a house fire than run out in the street wearing it

snafu · 19/06/2005 11:34

Oh, don't get your (sweaty) knickers in a twist ladies, it's a lighthearted thread. You have to admit there are some sights around...

Worst thing, imo, is men who don't wear shirts at the supermarket. I do think that is just gross. I've just spent the last twenty minutes dodging hairy nipples whilst trying to pick out a nice tomato. I don't need that, thank you very much.

WigWamBam · 19/06/2005 11:37

Didn't you notice the winks and grins, snafu? My enormous knickers aren't in a knot, but it was fairly certain that a thread like this would upset someone.

It's interesting though that you are allowed to laugh at large people with lots of flesh on show, but the large people aren't allowed to join in ...

snafu · 19/06/2005 11:38

?? wwb

I'm not laughing at anyone.

WigWamBam · 19/06/2005 11:40

You weren't, snafu, but the thread is.

Gobbledigook · 19/06/2005 11:41

Well I'm wearing my PJs

Cam · 19/06/2005 11:41

I don't remember your nipples at the Brighton meet-up Unicorn - but then it was winter! You'll have to bring them to the next one in August!

Talking of Brighton I was over there getting my hair cut yesterday and saw some hot weather sights, the women looked alright but a man with enormous beergut in teeny tiny orange shorts (looked like his underpants) wearing nothing else except a teeny tiny rucksack in the town not beach

Still it was compensated for by being chatted up by nextdoor customer in hair salon, young Irish male with the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen (ok, ok I know I reminded him of his mammy)

Sorry to go off track there but this heat is a bit "Streetcar Named Desire" (hold that thought, young Marlon Brando in a white singlet)

Skribble · 20/06/2005 22:25

I'm not refering to peoples sizes, even skinner people look silly in tops and skirts that are 2 sizes 2 small. My pet hates were men with their tops off. I hate feet full stop sorry if this offensive to you. Fat feet or skinny feet I have no prejudice.

No one suggested sunbathing in jeans and t-shirt just walking and working.

Caligula · 20/06/2005 22:30

DD (3) loves it when she sees men with no top on. "Mummy, mummy, that man's all naked!" she squeals delightedly. Or "Look Mummy, that man's all naked - why? Why hasn't he got his top on? Why Mummy? Why? Why? Why?" (at the top of her voice)

I haven't yet found out what the correct response is.

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 22:53

Just read opening post I am just under 11 st size 12 waste and 16 top (very large boobs). I feel fat and ugly and have lots of pink wobbly bits. I am so hot in this weather (boobs get really uncomfortable). Cant buy dresses to fit my shape and dont have money anyway to buy clothes see other post so i am wearing vested tops and shorts and everyone can look at me and call me vicky from little britain cos ugly nation is right here. Sorry for the plom act (poor little old me) but I am downright ugly and fat and i hoped that people didnt really think what I think about me in my head but i guess they do

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 22:55

oh and toothyboy - enormous bra straps cos when they are large you need the support

janeybops · 20/06/2005 22:58

all I was saying is I feel hotter with shorts and string vest top on than with a cotton floaty top and trousers, which in my opinion feel cooler.

janeybops · 20/06/2005 22:58

Not sure I actuallly mean a string vest. lol. you know what I mean!

WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 22:59

Darling, I can give you at least 10 stone, and my boobs are 46G. With a size 12 waist you aren't fat and you aren't ugly; ugly is something that comes from the inside, not the outside.

Skribble · 20/06/2005 23:02

Again I am not talking about fat. Fat doesn't = ugly. Tight tops don't make you cooler same with sunburnt shoulders.

I am size 16/18. I ain't no sunbathing goddess.
Where I live the worst sites are the junky mums, who are all skinny with short denim skirts vest tops and high heels, fag hanging out of mouth and kid in pram sunburnt from head to toe.

Sorry if there are any junkies with sunburnt kids on tonight.

unicorn · 20/06/2005 23:04

C'mon.. are we not looking at the same people?

Obnoxious (usually drunk) pink fat men I am generally referring too.. don't tell me you haven't seen them displaying their lovely selves?

Sorry this is getting so personal, and upsetting people.. but can't you generalise?

I do not believe this weather makes us appear a very attractive nation (and I am including myself here too)

OP posts:
toothyboy · 20/06/2005 23:07

Rahp - I know - I'm not small myself!! I'd like to wear strappy tops but have to wear vest tops with wider straps that cover the bra straps !!!

WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 23:12

It was comments like

"SO many really fat people (as in when you sit down your stomach edges over your knees) everywhere, mainly eating ice cream at 10am. I'm sorry but it is like being in the US, I can't remember it being like this in this country before. I am not exactly kate moss but this was OTT"

and

"My MIL and her neighbour always sunbath in their gardens in their bras I know its in their gardens but then I get slagged off for sitting in my jeans "oh you just may me feel hot looking at you", "Well you make me feel queasy" I should reply. Neighbour was power washing in strappy top with no bra (at least a FF)"

and

"sadly we have a lot of larger ladies in spaghetti strap tops"

that prompted my comments. Can you not see how comments like that can upset people, especially people who are already self-conscious?

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 23:14

i am a right whining cow tonight. tbh i am a reg poster but have changed details so people dont recognise as posted on benefit thread. I feel so bloody awful right now. so sorry everyone - yes i could get bigger tops and i could diet and could take things less personally. Had family gathering at weekend and i hate digital cameras. My sisters took photos and passing their cameras round. I just looked as bad as i feel. bf is non supportive and non complimentative, cant leave cos ds has bonded and more complications than i can list. I have 34G boobs but bf doesnt like large breasts, i have long hair - he likes short.. bf is very overwieght and has his own issues surronding this so i cut him some slack. But if i say 'do i look fat' - he is brutally honest and says yes.

rockandhardplace · 20/06/2005 23:15

WWB - exactly

unicorn · 20/06/2005 23:17

but everyone is self conscious... show me a woman who isn't bothered about her appearance and I will show you a pig that may fly!!

Yes I am in that glasshouse, and No I shouldn't throw stones... but don't you agree other nations 'do' this weather so much better than us?

It's not personal... it is general.

OP posts:
Skribble · 20/06/2005 23:20

Yes this was me -quote "My MIL and her neighbour always sunbath in their gardens in their bras I know its in their gardens but then I get slagged off for sitting in my jeans "oh you just may me feel hot looking at you", "Well you make me feel queasy" I should reply. Neighbour was power washing in strappy top with no bra (at least a FF)"

Sorry if someones boobs swinging out of their top was a bit much for me. The two ladies in question are obviously not self concious or they wouldn't be sitting in their bras. The point was more that I get slagged off for sitting in my jeans. Surely its me that self concious.

This thread was a lighthearted observation of how us brits are rubbish at dressing in hot weather. Not a dig at fat people.

WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 23:21

All I know is, anyone of any size and any shape should be free to dress to keep themselves comfortable in this weather, to cool themselves down with an ice-cream, to keep their feel cool in sandals, without feeling that people are judging them or sneering at them for doing so.

If a size 10 can wear strappy tops and eat ice-cream to keep cool and comfortable and not be judged for it, why not me? If someone with perfect feet can wear sandals to feel cool and comfortable and not be judged for it, why not me? Or the guy who's taken his shirt off, or the girl with the bra straps showing, or the woman with no breasts wearing a bikini?

toothyboy · 20/06/2005 23:22

Rahp, I hope I haven't added to your upset this evening - I certainly haven't meant to, but feel like I've come up against you twice now this evening! Sorry if I've offended you in anyway, and I really hope things work out OK for you.
