Welcome to the new thread ladies! I have put it in here as we have been dicussing the films and the books, so didn't think it fitted fully into the book/film section!

LRT, I had just finished reading HBP to my dd when we went to see the film and I think you're right, it was because I had so many of the details in my head that I found the film disappointing. I'm going to make sure I don't do that before the next one.

Must take a leaf out of janeite's book and see the glass as half full instead of half empty !

Riven, in the book Quirrel is not yet wearing the turban in the leaky cauldron, so is not yet possessed by voldemort.

LovingTheRain · 05/08/2009 18:45

Was going to say the same as greensnail. I don't think he is possessed when Harry meets him in the Leaky cauldron.

Riven, how have you finished so quickly? > I am struggling to find any time to read with the DCs being home all day!

My favourite chapter in all the books is the first in HBP, when the Muggle PM meets Cornelius Fudge. I think it's completely hilarious... and no-one else ever seems to mention it.

greensnail · 05/08/2009 19:26

jeee are you my mum? She's always going on about how much she loves that bit. I agree its very funny.

jeee · 05/08/2009 19:30

Are you very young GS? I'm in denial that I'm now old enough to have adult children. So I refuse to be your mother unless you're only 6.

The other part of HBP I remember is the sheer shock I got when I read it on the day it was first published and found out that Harry wasn't going back to Hogwarts for Book no.7.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 05/08/2009 19:31

Something that's been puzzling me for a while. When did we last see Crookshanks? He wasn't in the last two books was he?
DH thinks the whomping willow did him in, but I doubt it.

teamcullen · 05/08/2009 20:02

I wondered that about Quirall touching harry too, then thourght he mustnt have been possesed. BUT.. why was he trying to steal the stone then???

Was Crookshanks at the weasleys in HBP at the beginning?

Ithink the Weasleys must have minded it when they went of to save the world.

LovingTheRain · 05/08/2009 20:06

Ah crookshanks. Got to lvoe him Can anyone remember where Hermione got him from?

I have no excuses now though!! The children are all at my parents house till monday so I have all the time in the world to read. After I have cleaned the house from top to bottom and MNed of course!

she bought him in elops owl emporium. she went in for an owl and came out with crookshanks cos nobody would buy him. it was at the beginning of POA.

greensnail · 05/08/2009 20:43

he'd already met voldemort (?while travelling in albania), so was obviously already working for him, just not yet posessed.

greensnail · 05/08/2009 20:46

oh I'm very, very young jeee. Yes, I was upset they weren't going back to Hogwarts too - was hoping they'd be forced to go back for a little while - I wasn't ready for them to leave school.

LovingTheRain · 05/08/2009 21:17

Atleast we can take some comfort in knowing that Hermione went back the year after and completed her 7th year with Ginny and her year group

OP posts:
greensnail · 05/08/2009 21:23

Did she? I'd forgotten that bit, but I'm very pleased

janeite · 05/08/2009 21:25

I was glad that they didn't go back to Hogwarts in book 7. A) No Dumbledore B) I don't think i could have stood any more descriptions of Quidditch matches.

Just re-read POA and so many pages are taken up unnecessarily with Quidditch. It was brilliant in the first book and okay in the second but she doesn't half go on about it. Having said that, Ron's match in the HBP film is so funny.

LovingTheRain · 05/08/2009 21:42

greensnail - she did indeed. Not mentioned in the book, but JKR was asked in one of her wbchats if any of the trio had gone back to complete their 7th year, and Hermione did

OP posts:
janeite · 05/08/2009 22:13

Reading book 4 now - more bloomin' Quidditch - 13 pages of it!

FelixFelicis · 05/08/2009 22:37

Jeee, that's one of my favourite bits too. I was disappointed they cut that out of the film, even though I can see why they went instead for the spectacular Millennium Bridge distruction.

Janeite, I usually skip over the Quidditch passages.

LovingTheRain · 05/08/2009 22:44

I am hoping two things at the moment. 1) I hope the dvd is out by christmas, and 2) I hope there are lots of good deleted scenes!

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 06/08/2009 00:35

Jeee, I love the first chapter of HBP and missing it out was one of things that bothered me about the film. I read somewhere that JKR had written that chapter years before and had attempted to include it in two previous books (don't remember which ones) but that it had never worked before so it ended up in the HBP. Maybe that's why I was convinced it would be in the film as she was so insistent on it being included somewhere.

AstronomyDomine · 06/08/2009 10:25

Greensnail Quirrell must have been wearing the turban in the Leaky Cauldron because Harry dreamt about it the first night at Hogwarts.
