Welcome, ciao, hello

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 12/02/2009 21:04

nicer is not quite the right word!

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/02/2009 21:05

right, I might have to take dd2 to the theatre as dh might be away. oh well.

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:18

ciao, my detoxing is working, hardly been on mumsnet, i feel thinner, my skin is soft and radiant, my brain is at its full potential. Cannot believe franca is mumsnetting from Paris, I bet she is being wined and dined now....
Thank you penthe for book suggestion, tried to read some Enright stories, they were good, but not good enough to hold my attention. But i will look that up, it is unbelievable that there arent' that many motherhood books, except for the usual manuals, etc. I am now in between books, trying to decide what to read..so much choice.

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:26

ok it's not true, still fat, blotchy skin, dead brain, etc.

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:27

is everybody on another thread?

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:27

watching telly?

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:28

but grand design was on yesterday...

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:29

don't tell me you are in RL?

hothell · 12/02/2009 21:29
Brangelina · 12/02/2009 22:16

No, I was on Skype to a friend, so kind of rl.

What detoxing are you doing? Doesn't it make you hallucinate? I'd never have the willpower.

Rosa, I can't believe you're from Berks! I'd based my red hair diagnosis on you being pure Cornish. Oh well, back to water devining for my day job.

Sunflower, I agree with what Rosa and Sputnik said. Tell them that your son is not a target and offer to infect the entire school next time your DS is ill. Blimey, I don't what what they'd do with their targets here - at the height of the pre and post Xmas flu outbreak there were days with only 3 children in the class. It sounds like something an accountant would invent.

Franca, have you bought the wine yet? Because if not I'd like to change my order. Oh, and no need to pass by Cartier any more, but should you happen to pop into Chanel.....
Did you eat the veal brains or was it pig's bollocks à la dauphinoise? I think only the French and the Chinese have a fetish for non appealing animal body parts. Mind you, I've seen people eating creste di gallo here so milanese cuisine is not far behind [bleurgh!].

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 22:54

buonasera, went to parents evening and then stopped talking to the nurse about tips for getting DS dry at night (didn't mention letters etc though, as he has no problems as far as I know ). The teacher said he's doing really well and she'll miss him, he's a comedian, and making constant progress, especially considering is one of the youngest). Came out and it was snowing, so glad I took the car. Got home thinking of finding dinner ready (I mean, only needed to boil the past and heat up some ragu') but the 3 of them were playing hide and seek and I spy...

yes, I think the next letter I get (which will happen as I'm sure he'll be sick at least one day til July) I will have to mention all that you said; actually, I could also tell them that he probably passed it to his gran last time she visited, who went back with achy ear and ended up at a&e and now is deaf on that side and the doctors are not sure if she's going to regain any hearing

franca, what are you doing here!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/02/2009 08:18

hot I was detoxing as well - reading R.R. For now it's good but not as good as I imagined. will see.

Penthesileia · 13/02/2009 09:07

I finished RR the other night. So traumatised by the ending, I couldn't go and see the film.

I thought it was good.

Agree with beforesunrise? hot? who was it? who said it's Frank's story really. The constant delusion, self-denial. I thought the way the author depicted him as constantly coming round from one point of view to its compromised or self-deluding alternative in a few moments was very real and convincing: very human, and very disappointing.

Rosa · 13/02/2009 10:30

Brange water divining it works - I am a believer !!!! We did it in our back garden in the Uk for a laugh it hit the water 3 times. For a joke SIL gave dh a diviner one Xmas we tried it once in Venice and it went loopy it just diddn't know which way to wiggle !! ( Mind you we were under the influence at the time !)
You have inspried me to get another book out and try and read again but when go to bed I just fall asleep ! If I am not in bed then I am either doing mummsy / housewifey things or on here
Brage the injection seems to have worked - he is talking about going to Karate this pm - I am saying no doc said rest .Rest it a bit more and then go back . He said he will go but not do anything - YEAH !

Brangelina · 13/02/2009 10:48

Ha! So what injection is it? Cortisone? I might pack DP off, he's feeling very sorry for himself and can't do any cardio stuff at the gym. Fortunately he has forgotten to limp a lot and demand being served on hand and foot, so I suppose from that point of view he's had a miracle recovery.

What do you use for water divining? Sticks from a particular wood? I must admit when we tried it we used a wire coathanger, which is probably why we didn't get a result.

I am impressed at all this synchronised RR reading. I must admit I read Yates many years ago - managed to finish another one of his books but couldn't get into RR at all. Possibly because I was a teen at the time and my experiences of angst were quite different. Maybe I should try again.

I do highly recommend the Vikram Seth book I'm reading though, it's unputdownable.

Penthesileia · 13/02/2009 14:17

Remind me of which VS you are reading, Brange?

OK - so... Today I bought some skinny jeans! (though not the ones from Miss Selfridges, which turned out not to be indigo at all, harumph...).

Anyway - I may take a photo and post it briefly on my profile this evening, so you can tell me whether I look like a chicken drumstick or not...

Sunflower: meant to say before - at the school sending a letter like that!

hothell · 13/02/2009 14:44

penthe a drumstick?
i imagine you very thin, short hair, masculine clothes. don't know why.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 13/02/2009 16:20

oooooh, how exciting, new clothes... waiting eagerly for that pic, but I'm sure you won't look like drumstick, and as I said, if worried, big leather belt on hips and boots

guess I'll be on forced detox from tomorrow, as mum'll be here, so will only be able to pop in at night

Penthesileia · 13/02/2009 21:18

Oh lord: can't upload pictures as am too rubbish at computer stuff. Can't resize to make smaller...

Will figure out how to do this tomorrow... Am too tired and boggle-eyed tonight...

hot: not v. thin at all; have long hair; wear a lot of dresses (though not all at once [bag lady emoticon]}... I fear you're going to be disappointed...

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 14/02/2009 22:58

everyone's really on a diet then....

Rosa · 15/02/2009 08:53

Me diet not needed I have figure like a model , perfect skin , hair nails etc - thats why I live in 1 pair of jeans !!!!!!!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 15/02/2009 20:21

quick update before sunday movie night.

penthe go on show us!!

finished RR - good. not surprised by ending maybe because you hinted it a bit. will talk tomorrow.

ciao a tutte.

Sputnik · 15/02/2009 21:02

Evening everyone
No, no need for a diet here either [pants spontaneously combust]

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 15/02/2009 23:53

evening all, mum arrived yesterday so I'm sat here next to a huge tray of crostoli she and DS made earlier.... yummmmmm, no diet this week I think....

francagoestohollywood · 16/02/2009 09:50

Ciao!
We got back on saturday night (the tgv was 50 mins late ).
Paris was great. Brange, I got you the chanel ballerine, a bargain, at only 360 euros . Have to admit that, given the freezing weather outside, I spent too much time in Le Bon marche', so I now know the price of most of the coveted luxury items...
We also went to a new museum, which was amazing, the Musee du Quai Branly, opened 2 yrs ago, a collection of non european art. fantastic.
