Welcome, ciao, hello

Penthesileia · 12/02/2009 09:32

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 09:45

in Paris, child-free, ....

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/02/2009 10:53

dd2 was at royal berks!! didn't know you knew reading very well rosa....

Rosa · 12/02/2009 13:06

I know Reading very well I was born at the Royal Berks !
I thought you were London based Pippi ?
Thanks for all your lovely comments on minirosa - ( I did my best but she looks like dh rather than me !) she is having a snotty day - dd1 cold passed on but its in her throat rather than her nose but no temp and she is eating ( all be it frequently). Gorious day here cold and sunny, no wind and no damp !!
Well Franca must be having a good time as she would have found an internet cafe by now...

Bucharest · 12/02/2009 13:11

Jumping in quickly for a friend....can anyone tell me what smear tests are called in Italian and where one has them done? Do you see your gynae or go to some consultorio or what?

(get all my fiddling with my bits done in the UK)

Brangelina · 12/02/2009 13:12

Papa tests and you do to the consultorio. You can get them done provately of course but it's much easier the consultorio route. Also, if you're over 35 they're free.

Brangelina · 12/02/2009 13:13

Sorry PAP tests, not papa tests!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 13:16

LOL at Papa test!

Brangelina · 12/02/2009 13:21

Beautiful picture Rosa, she really is lovely. If she does have red hair (and I'm sure she will, after all, I dreamt it) she'll be even lovelier.

I got your packet today - thanks very much (lol at the message for the potie on the back). I'm but I haven't got around to sending yours yet, I need DP to source some 8GB DVDs otherwise I can only copy you Peppa Pig, everything else is much too long for the normal 4,7GB ones. If he can't get hold of them I'll send you the originals, although it will be 1 or 2 at a time or DD will notice they're missing (I obviously plonk my child in front of the telly far too often).

Also got your Sputnik - thanks. DD wanted to wear it for school today but had to concede it was a little too big.

Brangelina · 12/02/2009 13:23

Papa tests are something else.....

Got to dash, see ya!

PS: Franca is probably tucking into veal brains à la dijonnaise or something similar in a fashionable Paris bistrot. Maybe she found a Gallic stranger, hence no time for internet cafés?

Rosa · 12/02/2009 13:38

Glad it arrived ok -
I have my 60 day follow up check tom ( doc broke his leg so its a bit late!). Our consoltorio has a bit of along waiting list so I go private or I have to trog to the mainland. PLus they suggest you have one every year here ..don't know if it is the private docs making money or the brits being tight ?

Brangelina · 12/02/2009 13:48

Private docs making money I suspect. It's every 3 years at consultorio, if you want more often then you pay (something like 16 euros I think). After 45 though it's every year.

Everywhere's different, in Milan I always got an appointment at latest a week after I phoned up. That reminds me, I need to sort another one out but need to register at local consultorio.

Brangelina · 12/02/2009 13:48

Gosh, I really must go out or the bank will close. Why do I find it sooo hard to tear myself away?

TantiK · 12/02/2009 14:44

ooohhh - I'm freaked out now - all of you Reading girls! DS1 was born at Royal Berks - we were lucky to be accepted on the night as they are often closing down the department. The Battle Hospital is now a very large Tesco (suprise, suprise!). My family are from Slough (i know....) and just before I got married we moved out of London (no chance of buying a place there!) to Reading. We were in Reading for 3 years.

My TEFL is with i-to-i, my MIL did the same course and found it really useful so I thought that I would try to get it under my belt as something I could do. I would love to set up a group to teach children English even a mother and toddler group with English nursery rhymes etc - but I'm good at ideas just never quite get around to executing them!

Later I am going to work out how to do a PM so that I can start to see these pictures of the cute miniRosa (with Reading heritage!).

Off to get DS from Asilo...ciao

Rosa · 12/02/2009 15:30

I lived the other side of Reading towards Newbury . My mum worked at Battle and then Royal Berks. - Battle was almost on the way out when we left Berkshire ( I came abroad and parents moved west). I went to school in Reading and nightlife was in Marlow - you can walk 20 paces from one pub to another !!!
I have been asked to do toddler groups as well but I am thinking of doing the Tefal as it seems a sensible thing to do . I wish I had doen it before dd2 arrived as I just don't have the time .. Have to go she really is grumpy today !

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 16:32

aaaarrrrrrrgggggh, got another letter from the school about school attendance "informing me" that DS' is 92.5% - he's been off 5 days for an ear infection,(GP prescribed antib and no school) +2 separate days when he had temp and one when he was vomiting. Maybe I should just send him to school when he's ill, and then I'd probably have SS on my doorstep for neglect... oh, and apparently I may want to "make an appoitment with the school nurse to discuss it". Didn't know that 4.5yos don't get ill

Rosa · 12/02/2009 16:57

Are they serious ??? FGS if he is sick then he is sick also 5 days off I would hardly call that drastic..Esp if you have sick notes or whatever! I would yes make an appoinment to see the nurse and be so sickly nice that it might make them think that this is OTT! Maybe ask about what vitamin supplements or preventative cures you could give to your ds so he doesn't get ill... Honestly what will they think of next ?. Ok now if your ds was 14 and not ill then thats another matter !!!!
As for dd maybe a paper bag might be a bit better

Sputnik · 12/02/2009 17:00

That's ridiculous Sunflower. My DD is 4 1/2 too, she was back at school this week but the previous 3 weeks she was in for 1 day only, because of cold followed by flu. It's rare she does a 5 day week as I often keep her at home if she's tired or whatever. They are very small still.

Glad your DD liked the dress Brange, shame it's too small, maybe good for next autumn.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 17:12

I know Rosa, I mean, if he kept on getting ill, then I would think about checking with GP/nurse but it's only been ill a handful of times, and an infection takes a few days to clear! their target is over 95% attendance...

right, better check DS - he wants to make a card for his teacher as she's leaving today so I can give it to her tonight...

paper bag got shredded within seconds the other day, so now I stuffed my (clean) sock with the plastic bag but it was no good... in the end the washing machine distracted her... ah, all these toys, and what does she want, a tesco's bag!

francagoestohollywood · 12/02/2009 17:29

Hello Ladies, briefly checking in, as our room has wifi!!

It's been very cold today, thank goodness I brought a really unfashionable (but very warm) puffa jacket!

And yesterday we went to the movies, we watched Revolutionary Road! I love the fact that they show movies in OL in France. So civilized.

Anyway, SF I'm shocked at your ds's school. Don't they expect children to get ill? And surely poorly children should stay home, when it's possible? It's mad!

ciao a tutte!

Sputnik · 12/02/2009 17:55

Franca, what the hell are you doing here!
Ah Sunflower, now I get it, they have a target, stuff the child, they have a target to fulfil. I'd be tempted to go and ask them if you should go against your GP's advice so that they can stay on target.

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/02/2009 18:19

franca so how was R.R?

rosa yes I am in london but dh's family are all from near reading (I village starting with W) (sil there too). know Marlow - lovely place. Do you remember we were at FIL's during refurbishing of house and when 9 month's pg? - prob not as I did not have internet connection then. anyway I ended up having dd2 at royal berks, which was ok by me.

sorry dd needs a weee

Rosa · 12/02/2009 20:17

As Sputnik says a 'target' in which case I would not be sickly sweet and basically say my sons health is more important than your target ... And if you brought your son in sick then he would infect the other students therefore your target would be worse off than it is .. target probably set by somebody who does not have children . ( stupid stupid stupid....)
Pippi small world !!
Franca get off the wifi and have a romantic evening with dh ...
NOt staying tonight guys ..dd grumpy and needs cudles...

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/02/2009 20:20

rosa you're not sil secret bf are you???

Rosa · 12/02/2009 20:30

Nah - The W village is the wrong side of Reading I am from the other side . PLus I am nicer than your SIL !!!
