No, had a lucky escape though. Sardinian neighbour was offereing me bits out of his goody parcel from home when he proffered me a jar and told me to try some formaggio marcio. "why's it called formaggio marcio?" I asked, as a fingerful neared my mouth. "Becasue it's got worms in" he replied, when said finger was poised millimetres from my lips.

I nearly profanated (is that a word?) my vegetarian status with that. I've been told it's quite nice, if not a little pungent.

Brangelina · 10/02/2009 21:37

They have patio heaters nowadays Franca. You have to sit outside, if only to suck in the Parisian atmosphere.

Sputnik · 10/02/2009 21:40

We got served it at a restaurant without knowing what it was. The owner then came and asked what we thought of the cheese, we looked down at the last slice and these tiny cheese coloured worms were radiating out from it, trying to escape I suppose!

Brangelina · 10/02/2009 21:45

Ugh!

On that note, I'll make myself a tisana and knuckle down to my boring excel sheet.

Night everyone!

Penthesileia · 10/02/2009 22:01

Sorry I missed smelly cheese chat. Chasing up memories of old tv series on another thread...

Have a wonderful time, franca!!!!

Notte a tutte.

PippiCalzelunghe · 11/02/2009 08:24

that cheese is my worst nightmare! I have a phobia of worms!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/02/2009 14:32

don't like cheese, don't like maggots, I've got pelle d'oca only thinking about it!!

right, back to clearing the house for mum...

Rosa · 11/02/2009 16:47

I only met the worm cheese once it was the sound of the things in the paper bag that put me off .
Well dd has a carnival costume I wanted a ladybird but she is a bee we had a bit of a downer when she was putting it on as she thought it was for a boy but thankfully it has a skirt !!!! Skipped a feed so am full to the limits but with dh foot it was either me going or spending Eu50 on a costume here !! ( Knowing our lucky she will come down with a bug and not wear the thing ...oh ever the pesimist )
Right offski to do something constructive whilst dd watching the numberjacks !

Sputnik · 11/02/2009 17:36

Can one of you organised and efficient people tell me when carnevale actually is? I know that DD's school will announce they are doing a party 2 days before.

Sputnik · 11/02/2009 17:41

Wonder what Franca is doing now

Bucharest · 11/02/2009 17:44

Sput- It's the 24th.....Martedi grasso blah blah..although our kids have to dress up for nursery every Saturday between now and then...and dd's underskirty bit is already ripped to shreds after last Saturday....

It's v quiet here today....

I au-paired in Spain when I was a student and they had maggoty cheese as well.....

I am cheese-holic, but would draw the line at maggots....

Sputnik · 11/02/2009 18:07

Thanks. So I have a bit of time yet then!

Rosa · 11/02/2009 20:21

Carnival starts here on Thurs...but really kicking in on the sat so we dont take vaporettos for the next 2 weekends and we avoid the main streets - bloomin nightmare!

Rosa · 11/02/2009 20:37

Guys for those of you who have not seen minirosa she is on my profile for a short time only !! ( as there was a discussion about ginger hair on my post natal thread ) am not sure which way she is going to go but there is a tint there at the moment!

PippiCalzelunghe · 11/02/2009 20:42

I told you before I'll be so if she is!!!!

TantiK · 11/02/2009 20:44

wow - things are moving fast on this thread! I can't keep up.

I seem to have a million things to do atm - I am still working from home (v. little but need to keep an eye on emails so probably only did half hour of actual work today - but it can be 4 hours, depends really), plus trying to keep teeny-tiny flat in order, plus I have signed up for an online TEFL course....plus trying to be pregnant and get to my corso pre-parto (more for vocab than anything else!) - so amongst all of those things I just can't keep up.

Is it normal that the kids dress up for carnevale? I haven't got DS a costume yet because I wasn't sure if it was something that was done for sure (what happened to the days of making one?!). I can imagine it must be a crazy time to be in Venice Rosa - probably quite scary for the kids with all those masks too! But I would love to experience it just the once.

Cheese with worms - now that's a new one on me. No thank you!

Baby is podalica at the mo, so lucky us get another scan in a few weeks time. More bloods needed tomorrow, but other than that all okay. The hospital looks lovely - a very relaxed and calm environment. They only have 350 births a year! Was a bit different when I gave birth in Reading! I just hope that all goes 'naturally', last time my waters broke with meconium in them and so from then on in I was on full monitoring. I wish there was some way of predicting how it will all turn out.

Rosa · 11/02/2009 20:51

Was it Royal Berks or Battle Tantik?? I know Reading very well - Are you from there?
I think in most areas the children dress up for Carnival why not ask at the nursery as they often have a festa at nido on shrove tuesday for us ( the last tuesday). We have ' outside' costumes as well here as the children go wild with coriandoli and streamers. ( also its bloomin cold so a fairy costume is pretty useless!)
Which tefal are you doing ? I was and will sign up but I need justto get an hour free a day ( before 6pm as after that my brain is soup!)

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/02/2009 21:04

aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww cute minirosa... can't say really about her hair, we're a bit too with miniflower, though i think it's going towards the venetian blond...

Sputnik · 11/02/2009 21:32

Lovely lovely MiniRosa

Bucharest · 12/02/2009 08:40

Rosa, she's beautiful!

gio71 · 12/02/2009 09:15

ahhh Rosa she's gorgeous!!!! I want one!!!
not had cheese with worms experience either and think will pass....
How much longer have you got now Tantik?

Penthesileia · 12/02/2009 09:31

OMG - she is so cute - look at that adorable expression! Awwwwww!

Maybe a little bit red? So beautiful: I love red hair - it is really gorgeous, IMO.

Can't remember who, way back when, was asking about books on motherhood, but thought of another one: Anne Enright (of The Gathering fame) - "Stumbling into Motherhood" - autobiographical reflections.
