Is he attractive?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 07/02/2009 16:17

should I go in manifestazione? The weather is appalling (I'm a crap activist)

OP posts:
Rosa · 07/02/2009 16:28

I am on facebook as well but I diddnt have any old boyfriends ..I found love at a very late age
Crap weather here as well dd nose is a tap ( an open dripping one)
Dh gone out with the boys - I met my mates not seen for ages at a funeral this am but they all have lives so they went home afterwards - I had saved some milk for minirosa at home so was hoping almeno for a cafe but niente da fare !!

Brangelina · 07/02/2009 16:31

Yes, I'm on FB, got drawn in by an old friend inviting me. I hate it and am rarely on there but when I am it holds a morbid fascination and I trawl for hours.

Yes, he's very attractive. And nice. And has very fluid morals. Nah, I'm sure it's OK, we've all grown up since.

No, don't go, you'll get soaked. I'm trying to summon up the courage to go to the supermarket. We have to walk as DP broke the window wipers on the car when it last snowed.

beforesunrise · 07/02/2009 18:08

hello everyone! just came back from a fairy-tastic party with dd1. she went mental in there, all the little girls were sitting nicely listening to the fairy animatrice, and she was running in circles like a banshee, together with all the boys. oh dear.

penthe how old is your baby? mine is such a bad sleeper- and getting worse all the time. i am quite down about it really. don't want to do anything drastic like crying out (what is known as Estivil over there!), i just wished she learned how to sleep properly... i haven't had a full night's sleep in more than 3 years, and i am starting to resent it...

ER- big fan here too! i still watch, mainly out of respect for what it used to be, but i actually hate Abby which is a bit of a problem since ER seems to have become the Abby-show. Although she's gone too in this last series? I always fall asleep haflway through :-)

WOHM vs SAHM... i have concluded that the problem with this so called debate is that since no one is actually sure of having made the right choice, they tend to get incredibly defensive and nasty about it. far easier to rubbish everyone else's choices than to admit that you are not certain about your own choices... same really with private vs state, blw vs purees, formula vs breast... i can't summon the energy for it really. all i know is that parenting is bloody hard work, and these types of tensions and second guessing and seghe mentali really don't help!

beforesunrise · 07/02/2009 18:15

PS Brangelina... i want to know what the old boyfriend says!!!!

Sputnik · 07/02/2009 20:44

BS, I totally agree with your last paragraph re debates on MN, that's exactly how I feel!

Lol at your summing up of the sahm/wohm thing Pippi

I went to state school but have to agree my friend from private all girls school were boy-obsessed, whereas we knew they were prats. They did seem more motivated though.

Brange, I finally posted that dress off today so keep an eye out.

Brangelina · 07/02/2009 21:19

Thanks Sputnik, I will.

I agree with BS's last paragraph as well, although I do wonder if there is a higher proportion of overly defensive/insecure/neurotic/smug or generally uptight people on mn than in rl. I mean, it's all very well everyone being different and discussing said differences in a civil manner, but to suddenly bite someone's head off and gang upon someone just because their way of life/philosophy differs from yours is a bit excessive. Nobody I know would ever get quite so worked up at any of these issues. Or maybe I've been away from the UK too long? Is it even a UK thing? Boh.

He hasn't replied yet, although another friend of mine from about 100 years ago did, which I'm more pleased about. Let's see what happens.

gio71 · 07/02/2009 21:34

Oh My God how long is this thread already!!!! Just popping in to say hi from freezing England. Had a quick skim and want to say lol lol at Pippi's summing up and also that Franca I know this ages ago on thread but i think you sound like a great Mum. Hows the sleeping been?

beforesunrise · 07/02/2009 21:36

i am just reading repubblica.it and i am totally and depressed at all that is happening around that poor Eluana girl... not just because it's really robbing her of all dignity, but also the whole legal/constitutional angle of it... really, don't want to start a polemica, but it's so horrible and humiliating

Brangelina · 07/02/2009 21:46

I was going to mentione the Eluana thing a while back then decided not to. It is ridiculous all the hoo-ha surrounding this, but I think the reason it's really got blown out of all proportion is that it could provide a legal precedent for euthanasia and obviously the Vatican is not best pleased. It's been on the telly here for months and it's been around 14 years that her poor dad has been around the courts to get this verdict. I did wonder at first why on earth he didn't just take her home - she needed no life support so it would have been feasible. But with hindsight I think he has been sensible, he's probably have had his house surrounded by hysterical religious nuts (maybe they are there anyway?) and then he'd probably have been done for murder. At least this way it will be the responsibility of the state.

It is so crazy, I do hope it doesn't get through parliament but Berlusca unfortunately has the majority and they're all Vatican brown-nosers.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 07/02/2009 21:48

BS, seems like if she was a dog, she'd have more dignity...

beforesunrise · 07/02/2009 21:52

berlusconi and his cronies will stop at nothing really... dragging this poor, defenseless girl in the dirt, talking about her body as if it was, indeed sunflower, a dog's... and all just for his own political gain. this is disgusting and even the people who disagree with Eluana's father should dissociate themselves from Berlusconi and the way he is using her.. it is simply disgusting, honestly, i hope he rots in hell.

sorry- i am not usually this angry and i apologise if i cause offence... but i am incensed...

Brangelina · 07/02/2009 22:21

Carry on BS, I dislike Berlusconi just as intensely. You should have heard him on the TG this evening. He's such a slimeball but what is truly scary is that he's been voted in - in democratic elections - 3 times, this time with a clear majority (thanks to that other idiot, Bossi). It really doesn't say much about the electorate, does it?

Anyway, there was speculation flying around earlier that he would go and visit the poor girl in the hospice. Now that would be a publicity stunt [puke].

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 07/02/2009 22:44

I've competely given up on following Italian politics, just had to know ministers names and broad politicies on certin issues for work and that's it. Feels like the Country is going backwards in many respects s.times, not just politics, and can't understand why the Vatican feel they have the right to comment on everything... (sorry, that sounded a bit bitter, I'm not really, I still have some hope )

Rosa · 08/02/2009 09:14

Yes it said on the news this morning that Eluanas dad had invited Belrlusca to see her - seeing as he is in Mestre today at the opening of the new passante he could easily pop over- bet he won't go. But they have suspended her food / water already - Aqua Alta again today so dd1 suffering from cabin fever and I think minirosa is aswell as she is a rompe!

francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2009 10:07

Hello Ladies

Gio, thanks for asking, he's been sleeping very well the last 3 nights (mind you, they went to bad quite late the last 2 days ). Have a fab time in the UK.

And lets hope that both countries will enjoy a better weather (though friend in Devon wrote that more snow is expected. Still snow in devon sounds idyllic, whereas rain does not )

Well, we ended up going to the manifestazione, as I'm really angry and appalled at how the tragic situation of Eluana has been turned into a political affair (and the Vatican don't get me started), and the things that Berlsuconi said and most of all at how they insulted Napolitano for not signing the decreto. And among other various measures the gov took that I dislike, I'm also shocked by the Lega Nord calling for doctors to denounce illegal emigrants. Can you believe it?

BS I totally agree with your paragraph on the various debates popping on here. And yes I don't know anyone in rl who is that judgmental about other people's choices.

Lol lol lol at Sputnik we just knew they were prats

Oh god. I finally crumbled and posted on the working parents are selfish thread... I couldn't take it anymore...

beforesunrise: DD is 8mo. Last night, thank god, she slept til 7. Phew. Don't think I could've handled another 5am start... (disclaimer: she's still bf-ing in the night, but it usually doesn't involve long periods of waking...)

franca: glad DS is sleeping better.

The Eluana thing is so horrible and distressing. On the one hand, a family's tragedy; on the other, Berlusconi trying to trample over the legal process and the constitution (again - not like he's not done it before... ).

Yes, Brange - I wonder too - who votes for him? All the Italians I know hate him. Maybe that says more about the circles I move in than anything else. Or perhaps because there is rarely any effective opposition? Don't want to insult any Italians who did vote for him, though.

Argggh. What a world.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 08/02/2009 10:44

I that is it Penthe, there isn't a decent opposition, the little I followed during the elections (mainly through work reports) gave me the impressione they were all fighting with each other, and talking rubbish. they are all as backwards as each other... but I think that until so much weight is given to the Vatican/Church, then the situation won't change.

francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2009 10:57

Penthe you summoned up the Eluana crisis much better than I did.

Yes, I agree the opposition is quite pathetic, with internal battles among so many political currents. There are people I like a lot (quite a few) within the opposition, though.

The Vatican, gosh, I can't see that happening unfortunately (pessimistic emoticon). After all it's been interfering with Italian politics since the middle ages!

Penthe, yes, I saw you! I agree.

Rosa, it's stopped raining here. What's it like in the east?
I'm sorry you didn't get to drink a coffee with your friends, I wish we lived closer, I'd go for a coffee any time!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 08/02/2009 13:04

Ooooh - I'd love to have a coffee with all of you [group hug emoticon].

Well done for going to the manifestazione, franca. You put your money where your mouth is!

Rosa · 08/02/2009 13:34

It had stopped raining here but Aqua Alta - Dh put minirosa in the pack and went out as he only had to wade about 10m to get to a dry bit so he did a circuit. DD1 helped me ( I was trying to sort out clothes -so my to put aside pile for minirosa is now all mixed in with summer try on see if still fit and bin - in fact its all one huge mess but she did have fun !!
Huge black clouds on the horizon however.
Ok everybody to venice for coffee then - I will make a cake !!
Am about to post about dd birthday what to do with about 20 3 yr olds - We were going to have a small festa with 2 or 3 friends at home but we have been to 4 parties all ready and they are not even my her friends. Then we have the gruppo from her inserimento at nido that she talks about at home. SO we decided to go for the stanza that we booked last year. Thing is balloons and bolle di sapone I don't think will be enough!!

Penthesileia · 08/02/2009 13:43

Oh god - I would loooooooovvvvvvveeee to go to Venice. Don't torment me, Rosa.
