No school here!! Both schools closed, O and E are outside in the street havign a snowball fight with the neighbouring children. Great fun!!

We are heading of to my friend K's in a minute (little and big S's mum). They live on a hill backing onto fields and have a sledge

Was meant to be lunchtime supervising at the lower school today and was nervous. Glad it has been cancelled

Enjoy your snowy day!!

(dh left for work early, am now panicking he won't get back home...)

Oh and MAS, I have a pan of lentils on the go for the pea soup - will have that later with warm crusty bread

Hotcrossbunny · 02/02/2009 09:24

Yay! Snow here too. 10" last time we checked - haven't seen snow this deep since I was little

Have already been out for a play and walk up the road. Neighbours coming round later, then off to see B's school friend. Dh is home but boss insists they work from home, but system is down, so he is laughing

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 02/02/2009 09:25

It is fab, isn't it??

Right, am going to get ready to go out now

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 09:51

crampons !! T is doing homework,dh has been out to replenish bird feeder and put warm water in their bowl and I'm going to the shops in a bit !
Didn't know you were starting lunch time supervising yet hippi...good luck tomorrow,if it's not too snowy again !!
Soup will be lovely and warming

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 02/02/2009 14:14

crampons!! thanks

Have just come back home. E adn little S gave up quite quickly and moaned they were cold, so K took them back to her house. I stayed behind with big S adn O, and a boy called A who is in O's class but is best friends with big S, and his brother and parents. We stayed for 2 hours
Then went back to K's for hot chocolate.

E and I have now come in for a late lunch, O is out on the street. There is a snowball fight in progress with O, a boy called G (who is in Y6 at O's school) and two of G's Y6 friends.
O is going to be soooo cold and exhausted when he finally comes in

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 02/02/2009 14:16

Ah yes, lunchtime supervisoring, they want me to come in for 3 days shadowing (one in each yeargroup R - 2), so that when they call me I am up to speed. So the 3 training days were meant to be today, tomorrow and Wednesday.

Hotcrossbunny · 02/02/2009 16:40

MAS - great snowman

What a lovely day Dh home, B sooooo excited and happy, even doggle is in seventh heaven

B has a little friend here, and they stayed outside for AGES. They tasted all the snow(!) then went and cooked in the playhouse, making snow stew and snow pudding. Very sweet. We made some cookies, and they're now demolishing them in front of a DVD. All in all very easy!

Here's hoping school is closed tomorrow too...lots are!

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/02/2009 18:19

school closed tomorrow, so I'm guessing T's trip to London is off ( the ones going today didn't) and I imagine the other schools will be closed too (am due to do a drop off for little S) Dh will see what roads are like, but if he's off tomorrow he'll have to work on Saturday. What are your pictures of hotcross ? am wanting to see them but they don't come out

Hooray - it worked at last Don't know what was going on...

It's snowing here again. B is off to a friend's house later this morning. Think will take doggle for snowy walk. Lovely. We have fantastic icicles hanging off the roof - must have been very cold last night.

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 03/02/2009 10:58

It appears to be melting here.... it is a bright sunny day. Also, temps are above freezing, but more (light) snow is predicted for this afternoon.
Have just had a phonecall from a friend offering to have both O and E round for a play.
O was supposed to go home with a friend after school today, and as there is no school I am not sure what is happening. I can't find the mum's phone number....
Will assume it is cancelled
(I hope it is as he is now going elsewhere [fret])

Hotcrossbunny · 04/02/2009 12:31

Hello! Is everyone back at school today? We made it in this morning a wee bit late - our road is still snow and ice, as is the road it joins, so we walked up to the main road and got a lift with Dh's car share. I then luckily got a lift home with B's friend's mum, so only had to slip and slide a few hundred metres from her house! Am hoping the thaw continues and our road will be clearer by pick up time.

Have just got a message from B's tennis teacher. As her lesson was cancelled on Monday they want to add 15 mins to the next 4 sessions to catch up. Unfortunately she has a music lesson straight after, so that's now a right pain for us Typical...

Right off to straighten up the house - the house is a tip after being here for the past few days!

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2009 13:36

yup, dh back to work and T to school - very icy and slippy though- dh kindly cleared snow etc off my car. He went to work with a spare bag of clothes and a shovel in case he gets snowed in !! I drove with friend S slowly down to Sainsbury's which was packed - the car park was crammed full as they hadn't cleared the snow from the upper storey (nor had they said it was closed) so we went up there and had to drive down again to laboruiously circle round and round until we found a slot.

Back to school for all of us today, and I did my first shadowing of the lunchtime supervisors. 'Tis lovely, but hard work, especially today as I was doing reception.
Y1 tomorrow, will be interestign to glimpse a peek into E's day

It is very treacherous here, I ended up walking in the middle of the road as the paths were too slippery.

Hotcross, what sort of music lessons is B doing?

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2009 14:08

ooh, forgot to say good luck hippi ! am sure it'll all be great

OP posts:
Hotcrossbunny · 04/02/2009 14:20

Oh I copmpletely forgot too - blame the snow! What did you have to do? Did you have to go out into the playground etc? How exciting I wonder what E will think of you being there???

Music isn't really lessons, I suppose. It's music classes she's been going to since she was tiny. I kind of thought we'd have given them up by now, but she really loves going. It's a structured session of singing and playing instruments, and it's steadily got more complicated and the stuff they've been doing for years begins to make sense musically eg tempo, pitch, rhythm etc. It's lovely She's beginning to learn to play the kantele www.kantele.com

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds · 04/02/2009 15:50

Wow! What an unusual instrument!!

Lunchtime was fab. Very chaotic, with allocating the children to tables, organising their food, checking allergies, making sure they are okay, then letting them go get ready for outside whilst clearing tables and re-setting them for the next sitting. Then supervising them outside. That bit was fun. The playground was too icy but the school has a large field behind the Y1/2 block, so we took them there and made snowment with them. Brilliant! Then getting them to line up (headcount, ended up missing 3 ), walking them to the door, getting them to take their wellies off, then in socks through the school (carpeted) to the classroom where we had to pack wellies away and find shoes - that was chaotic. And then take them into class, get them to sit on the carpet and hand them over to the teacher (yay!)

Doing it all again tomorrow with Y1, and Friday with Y2. That is going to be a nightmare, I will finish at the lower school at 1.35pm and need to be at the junior school for 1.45. And then straight on to swimming lessons for O. Stress.... [fret]

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2009 17:59

sounds great though hippi - you'll soon get into the rhythm ! which leads me neatly to B's exciting music classes - they sound fab ! there was a thing on Newsround this afternoon about the poor standard of music teaching in schools (not T's though - I think it is pretty excellent there)
My primary had lots of music - very inspirational teacher and we sang in music festivals and had an orchestra.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2009 18:02

do they do a kantele with a cat's head on ? that'd be fab I went out with my guitar teacher for a number of years and he had a dulcimer made for me in Australia where he'd gone out to work (and find himself !) but while he was away I fell out of love with him and I didn't get my dulcimer
