think we've been deleted,so shall we put ourselves here in other subjects ?
Sleepless night fretting about T and loos and lunches at big school - how neurotic am I ?!

impressed by cushion cover making !!
It'd be lovely to meet up - shall we think of dates ? we could certainly try that lovely place suggested earlier

Hello you two

Cushion cover making sounds very creative!! Am impressed.
Glad coffee morning was a success hotcross.

Have had a lovely day. Took Dillydog for a nice walk on the common in the sunshine, then finished off my CV (need to take it in on Weds) and made soup.
Mas, am making the pea soup but with green lentils instead of split peas. Am fed up with the split peas - even after boiling the life out of them for 3 hours they are still crunchy
Will let you know how the great pea lentil soup experiment goes!

Stayed in the park after school with E for an hour whilst O had rugby club. She played nicely with a selection of children and I found the following note in her bag:

Dear Emileyly would you liKe to come to My Howse...and play Lego games Love from Oscar.

Awww, how sweet!!

E is now at Rainbows and I am hasseling persuading O to have a shower before dinner and Cubs.

Meetup sounds great! As long as it is easy to drive to and has parking otherwise I will fret [fret]

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/03/2009 19:22

oh yes, let me know about the soup - dh manages to get his split peas all nice and soft, not mushy, but not hard !
Sweet note to E - I love 'howse'
I hope I'd find the antique place ok - am a stranger to anything beyond the centre of Farnham !!

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 02/03/2009 19:27

Soup is not bad - but found a crunchy lentil
It tastes spicier/nuttier somehow with the lentils.
O prefers it and demolished two big bowls full. E did not like it (but then she does not like the pea version either)
I do like it but am not sure I prefer it to the pea version.
The jury is out...

I loved Howse too, and teh mis-spelling and correcting of her name, and the random use of capital letters Will show it to his mum

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/03/2009 22:00

does E find the cloves too much ? I got dh to put fewer in..

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 03/03/2009 08:06

I have been leaving the cloves out because of E but it has not made any difference.

She is just a fussy little mare!

Hotcrossbunny · 03/03/2009 12:02

That note is so sweet - bet E was thrilled to get it I love the phonetic spellings at the moment, will be sad when they go...

to the soup. It's a bit drizzly here this morning - soup would be nice. BTW B wouldn't eat it either I don't think. She's not very keen on soup. Have mince and tatties on the go though, so will maybe try soup tomorrow.

Cushion cover is done and I'm quite pleased with it. I've never made anything like it before, it's a wee bit big but will probably shrink in the wash anyway I really enjoyed making it tbh, maybe there is a creative being inside me after all!?

Have just been helping in B's class. Struck it lucky - they had a musician in visiting and it was fab. B got chosen to go up and help with percussion - I was amazed she did, she's usually too shy to go...

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/03/2009 12:47

aw,that sounds great about B and percussion ! Sometimes if you're really interested in something it helps you overcome shyness or timidity ! When I was at primary school, until I was about 9 I never spoke in class,or answered as I was painfully shy (did talk to other children and grown ups one top one,but never raised my voice)- then we did science and I felt such enthusiasm that I answered out loud much to the joy of my teacher !!
T has pupil review day today - they just go in the meet their tutor for a one to one talk about progress and goals etc. T's aims are to put his hand up more in class, talk to other children and to join in in the team games - he finds these hard as he has difficulties with perception of speed /direction of balls/people etc- but I think he does try and has a go. He brought home his interim report with good even marks across the board - all showing the right degree of progress and a couple of excellents for his attitude in music and geography. He seems to have improved in maths but dropped a mark in ICT.
Anyway, he's done his homework so after I've put away the washing and cleared the lunch things we'll stroll into town - a treat might be in order

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/03/2009 12:48

well done with your cushion btw - am impressed !

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 03/03/2009 16:28

Wow hotcross, the helping in class and B helping with percussion sounds fab!!
I got called in today to do a stint of Lunchtime Supervisering today. Was really nervous but surprised myself by how much I enjoyed it!! I was in charge of one of the reception classes and they were delightful
Popped into the church hall after school (church is right inbetween the infant and junior schools) for a coffee whilst waiting for E and her friend P to finish Construction Club (only a 45min club so not worth going home)
Now have E and her friend P, a lovely little boy, upstairs playing. She is bossing him about something rotten - she is a nagging wife in the making I think
But they are playing nicely - they are driving a Playmobil fire-engine and a Playmobil Campervan along the landing! Will go and get tea on for them in a minute.

MAS, T's review sounds good, sounds like he is doing very very well!!

Hotcrossbunny · 03/03/2009 19:17

Well done T - it sounds like he's settled in really well. I like the idea of getting the rest of the day off. What was the treat?

Well done to Hippi too for lunchtime supervisoring(!) Glad you enjoyed it I am you can go for coffee in the church next door - sounds really civilised and a nice sociable thing to do. Also liking the sound of construction club. Is it with lego and things like that? Our school isn't great at running clubs, one of its minus points TBH, but I'm always listening out for ideas our PTA can suggest...

Hope the play continued to go well and that tea disappeared successfully.

We were supposed to be having a friend home tomorrow night, but apparently she was so awfully naughty on Sunday that her mum has withdrawn the privilege! I completely understand but am sad for B as she was looking forward to it and her swimming lesson is changing to a Wednesday from next week so we can't postpone... J is busy Thurs/Fri/Sat and we're now busy Mon/Tues/Wed Am thinking maybe B is doing too much, but it's so hard to dump an activity when she enjoys all of them!!

BTW - is the playmobil fire-engine worth having? We have the campervan which B loves and we have some vouchers, so could treat her to some more playmobil...

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/03/2009 19:21

it was a doughnut (and for me too !) oh and he bought himself 2 packets of fancy tea - green and white tea - he loves the stuff !

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 03/03/2009 20:00

Tea went down well and I think a great time was had by all. When P's mum came to collect him she instantly shot to the top of my 'favourite people' list because she said she loved my house

The church is fab. It is set in the same bit of park land / on the same road as the infant school. They run a great pre-school (both O and E went there as did most children now at the school), they run the school's breakfast club and the hall is used for ballet lessons etc. Today was ballet day so the hall was open for teas and coffees for the ballet mums. But it is open to all, most mornings at school drop-off time, and most afternoons from 2 - 4. Basic instant tea or coffee, no pricelist just drop some money in the collection box.
'Tis fab adn I will use it every time I have to wait for either O or E to come out of a club and it is too cold to sit in the park.

Hotcross, there are 3 Y1 clubs - ICT (which E did last term), Science and Construction.
Apparently they worked in teams of 3 and there were various stations to work through; e said there was a marble run to build and use, then a pyramid from wooden blocks, then aa cuboid from cardboard and finally a lego bridge. Each team was given points on hight/appearance and build-quality.
She loved it!!

Fancy T and his posh teas - brilliant!

hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 03/03/2009 20:02

Good grief, spelling has gone to pieces. An not even going to correct them all, apart from height..It is height. Not hight!!

hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 03/03/2009 20:04

Playmobil fire-engine is nice. We bought it for O when he was 5. And he has played with it a lot. To be honest E does not play with it too much, but it was in her room (as is the rest of our vast Playmobil collection) so was perfect for P to use.
If E had some Playmobil vouchers to use she would want me to put it towards a horse and cart, horse and stables and a farm!

Hotcrossbunny · 04/03/2009 10:04

Morning. Just waiting for a friend to arrive for coffee. Reading your post, I now want doughnuts MAS

I did wonder about the fire engine Hippi. Interesting that E isn't that fussed with it, I think B would probably like all the horsey paraphernalia too

I am very about your church coffees now I think things like that are great for building up community feeling etc and a great place to escape the cold.

The clubs sounds great! Our school has tennis, football and karate after school and French one lunchtime, but not run by the school, so we pay quite a lot for them although less than if they were outside school IYSWIM? At lunchtime there is choir, recorders and gardening club but not until Year Two B is desperate to be allowed to play the recorder!

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/03/2009 12:08

I liked playmobil - T had a hospital set which was great, though he was more of a Lego boy...
Mmm, doughnut was very nice indeed - today I have an almond macaroon. Am off later to pick up P's dcs from school and mind them until 5...then later it's book group - Gem Squash Tokoloshe -was the book...the next one is Labyrinth which is enormous and I would rather read a short story anthology I've just ordered from Amazon (bought mainly because a friend who is a writer has a story published in it) I've also ordered Living with a Willy for T ! - think it';s time for something like that.
T had some recorder lessons at his first primary school - my friend D took the group and I assisted (I played treble recorder as a girl) - it was hideously screechy because they just blow, rather than using their tongues...gah ! T found it very fiddly trying to hold the instrument and cover the holes at the same time.

Hi you two
Have just come back from invigilating at the secondary. It was great as always, kids a bit cheeky but nothing horrid. Still like the school
(and this time next year we should know whether O has a place or not. As my invigilating 'boss' is also the admissions officer I ran my address past her and she said it should be 100% guaranteed O gets a place. So hopefully it will be fine

Hotcross, E's school also offers some sports clubs after school, but these are expensive so I have not even given E the option. Whereas ICT, Science and Construction are run by the teachers and are free
O's school run 15 afterschool clubs, anything from boardgames to embroidery, cartoon creating to any sport under the sun including Tag Rugby which O is enjoying. (Oh, and a rock school one where instrument players are burning their own CD!)
All these are free. They all run on Monday afternoon and all the teachers stay late on that day to run the clubs. Recorder and choir take place at lunchtime.
I am really pleased with it, the only trouble we have is deciding which Club O should do as he wants to do them all!!

hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 04/03/2009 13:23

Keep going, see how far we can get

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/03/2009 13:29

ok !

hello you two... am back after taking my dad to have an eye test at hospital (he has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes- did I say ? apparently lots of older folk get it,though he is remarkably fit and healthy for a 75 yr old - not overweight, goes to gym, sails etc) anyway, all seems fine which is good. Had nice soup made by mum for lunch - spinach and butterbean - yum with some herby Italian bread from the cafe - delicious.
Went to bookgroup yesterday evening which was very nice- I drove so no wine which meant I didn't say as much as usual ! We are now reading Labyrinth which is enormous and by all accounts (on mumsnet at least) is dire - I had my suspicions as it's not really anything I'd choose to read - but I'll try...

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLostFourPounds · 05/03/2009 16:00

Oh, glad to hear your dad's eyes are fine He sounds very fit for his age!
The soup sounds fantastic - could you ask your mum for the recipe please???

I am full of cold and flu. I cancelled having a friend here for coffee this morning and have spent all day on the sofa under a blanket. I am literally streaming....[not a pretty image, I know]

I had to invigilate at the secondary yesterday (did I say?) and handed my CV in. Had an email today from the deputy head saying there were currently no full time vacancies (which I knew) but would I be interested in providing illness cover in the Learning Support department and if so she would pass my details on to the head of the Special Needs dept. (which is where I was hoping my CV would end up anyway)
So I have emailed back saying yes please

I don't like being on supply lists for short term cover (as I like to know in advance how my days/weeks are going to be filled) but as it may be a lead into a permanent position then of course I have to do it.... [fret]

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/03/2009 16:16

poor hippi - that soup would be a good tonic - will ask mum, it may have come from her soup book (by Lindsay Bareham) -it was very green and very thick...I love anything with butterbeans.
Great that your cv is being passed on - I understand what you mean about planning your week etc -I'd feel the same, but you can always say no if it's not convenient, plus it's a starting point and may well lead to a permanent position - try not to fret
