Ciao , Hello , Welcome .

OP posts:
Rosa · 19/06/2008 12:22

I am getting desperate for the Library in the UK. We have read and re read all the books. Dd has jumped from the cardboard one line or little verse books to stories- teh ones with 4 / 5 lines per page. No point doing an amazon order as we will be there soon. Then whilst there will go to jumble sales / car boots and try and pick up more to take back with us. Found a shop selling a few english books Eu7 for a slinky malinky its £2.99 in the UK . Dh says he is going to get her the Italian ones but no sign of it yet she has a few but not that many-
Re buggy no idea yet . DD has an inglesina tripp which is great but is starting to creak and go a bit wonky - has been great done planes, holidays and they get trashed in venice. I like a fronte mamma one but need a leggero one Babyconfort do one at Eu249 ( eek). Was looking at a doppia but DD is too tall for a Jane one but a Graco could be a possibility would like to evitare a doppia if poss as in theory dd21 will be in a carozzina for a good 5 mths as over winter so will get dd1 a pedana and a lead !!!!

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 19/06/2008 12:39

I think pedana and lead will work fine. I thought i had to but a double too as dd1 quite lazy but she loves the buggy board and walks more too. only problem is I cannot go out for the whole day as there's nowhere for her to nap. but doubt it's the case for you in venic.

girls I got a proposal. should we organize a meet up sometime in the autumn in venice? I will be going to udine to see DF (have not booked) so could hop on train and go for the day to venice. it'll be lovely to spend a day chatting with a real glass of wine! we even might be in time to see rosas's LO !

Rosa · 19/06/2008 12:44

Pippi what a lovely idea dd2 due round mid Nov. (11-15 ..keep getting different due dates !!
DD1 does lots of walking but when she is tired the buggy is essential. Am thinking of when I am on my own and she wants a nap. Talikng of which she has just fallen asleep on the sofa- she was awake last night with teeth better go and transfer to cot its cooler there..Its blooming hot today Brangelina come back and do you washing

francagoestohollywood · 19/06/2008 12:47

Yes Pippi, I'm in !!!

I had to go for a double buggy as ds was only 22 months when dd was born (and quite lazy, also he was a "late" walker). So I bought a mothercare, those where they sit side by side. It worked very well because in Exeter the marciapiedi are larghi and the shops have large doors etc. It would have been impossible in Milan or Venice! I used it a lot, as - when we moved house - the nursery was quite far away and I'd take then on the buggy.

The buggy board is great, I find, but we skipped that stage.

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/06/2008 12:54

great . we must organize it properly. brange will join us I bet. what about all of you from the centre? is it something you could do? I personally intended without the kids but I doubt DF will have both dds on his own for the whole day.
we might all be there when your water broke rosa !

must go pick up dd1 and rush to get some dinner. so lazy these days, haven;t cooked anyhting interesting in ages.

later...

francagoestohollywood · 19/06/2008 18:49

It'd be fab!

Right, I should be going out in ten mins, that is if my friend is in time, which is not going to happen

Sputnik · 19/06/2008 19:19

I'd love to meet up but Venice is a bit too far for me

Hot here too today, maybe the rain is finally over?

Sushi here tonight, I love sushi nights

gio71 · 20/06/2008 07:13

I'd love to as well but same as Sputnik, Venice is a bit far. Oh well, maybe we can do another meet up some time somewhere else?
Looks like summers here to stay
Give me another week and I'll start moaning about being too hot
So far our garden seems relatively mozzie free...had dinner outside and was lovely

Rosa · 20/06/2008 08:10

HOt hot humid hot..whinge whinge whinge.
Thats me done then.
How was the sushi?- not a great fan myself to be honest find that raw fish goes straight through me have tried it a couple of times sushi and also carpaccio di tonno pece spada etc like it at the time but not 2 hrs afterwards!!!
DH taken dd to beach that is if they can get on a vaporetto I have to go to market, shop , clean tidy up as its SIL bithday and I offered to do dinner I did suggest maybe Sat or Sun ( then I could have gone to beach as well but oh no she wanted today !)

PippiCalzelunghe · 20/06/2008 11:28

franca where did you go yesterday [nosey emoticon]? (ps have you heard from ellbell?)

gio, sputnik no worries we can have another one in rome or pg if you like. I'm there often enough.

gio71 · 20/06/2008 11:33

I'd love pg, always wanted to go

PippiCalzelunghe · 20/06/2008 11:47

great then. next time I'm going there will let you know and we can meet up. You can come with ds and we can go to Citta della Domenica ... my favourite!!!

francagoestohollywood · 20/06/2008 16:36

It's going to be a pretty hectic 5 days at the franca's...

Pippi, yesterday night I went to a "surprise party" for a very dear friend of mine, but arrived late for the surprise because the friend (the one with pfb) who was picking me up was late. Never mind, really. It was lovely, a chilled glass of wine, warm summer night and nicked lots of cigarettes.

I've been running around for various errands, I'm out in 10 mins for last session of pilates, then we are all going to dinner to a friend do "discuss" (??) our holiday in august. I still have to make sugo, as tomorrow inlaws here for lunch, as they come to watch the dc's show in the morning aaaaarg! so many things to do, such a disorganized franca!

PippiCalzelunghe · 20/06/2008 17:48

at all those cigarettes...

Rosa · 21/06/2008 08:54

Pilates and cigarettes how do you do you deep breathing ????
WHen are you off to Sicily ?
Mexican was a great success last night now what to do with loads of mint left over from the drinks??
However I ate more than I ususally do in the evening and dd2 was sitting high on my tummy took ages for me to digest . This morning made dh strawberry pancakes ( am I mad?) dd2 refused to try them but ate the strawberries. They had a great day at the beach and dd has not come back burnt dh was threatened with gbh if she did not wear her hat, factor 50 !! She did have very red eyes and today it will be glasses for her as they are still puffy.
Hot and sticky here again got the ac machine out last night ...only 2 weeks left!
Brang will be having great weather!

francagoestohollywood · 21/06/2008 15:14

I've no idea . I don't smoke very often .

We are off on Wednesday. Have 1000 things to do, including long visit to bookshop to get some books (for me, obviously).

It's hot here as well, but the house is keeping quite cool...

We had the dc's scuola materna play today, I was really impressed, 2 hrs of singing they did . It was really lovely, I cried A LOT.

Rosa · 21/06/2008 19:07

AHHH how lovely I think that materna plays / concerts are so sweet. DH says its hot look at San Candido so am about to have a quick look bet we wont find anything good as after a bargain.
No ac on yet but its only us today not all family its hot though ....

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 21/06/2008 20:24

uh rosa, forgot to say that strawberry pancakes sound delicious. I usually make them with crispy bacon, as I like sweet and salato.
I must have missed something, are you going to san candido? when?

Sputnik · 21/06/2008 21:39

Just been talking to my Mum in Wales and they have the woodburner on

I'm hot and the pappatacci have arrived.

francagoestohollywood · 21/06/2008 22:03

horrid pappatacci!
it's hot, isn't it? how cold is in wales?

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/06/2008 08:13

not cold here yesterday but cloudy and miserable. blew a gale in teh night and looks marvellous (mind you it can all change in the space of 10min in this country).

strawberyy pancake sounds deeeeelicious!!!!!

currently reading this which is very good but might not be the right one for the beach.

Rosa · 22/06/2008 08:43

In Cornwall g parents put heater on in evening so much the same. Here very very humid not enjoying it at all. Dh going to Police concert tonight should start 9pm but they are showing the partita 1st then the concert ...so if all ok it should start round 11pm ...Seeing as last night I could here Vasco Rossi and I live over the water the commune must be making mega money - think of all the people living nearby !
Strawberries going mushy so shoved them in pancakes. DH loves a full american every very once in a while but he decides too late so never have everythingin. Must say am looking forward to bacon butty in the UK.
San Candido might go for a few days next week see how the temps go and dh has a few buisness apts.

Rosa, i think that June is possibly the best month to go to the mountains, nice weather, warm, but not sticky and coll at night. Go for it!
It's really hot here, but house is keeping ok (ish).
Pippi, I'll have a look at the book, I'm planning to go to bookshop tomorrow. And must stock up on "magazines" for the train, but will buy english ones, I prefer them. Mondadori international sells them all, even "living etc". The only thing I hate is that the saturday edition of the guardian arrives incomplete, just the newspaper and the travel inserto. I miss everything else! (If you get it, don't throw away the magazine, pass it on to me (greedy).
The children are playing with a friend, should I do the ironing or finish "the secret history"?

Where is hothell?

francagoestohollywood · 22/06/2008 14:12

coll? cool...

Rosa · 22/06/2008 15:07

mmm I was worried about hotell as well she must be back by now. I have lost all e mail addresses.
Have looked at forecast and it is not that good for the mountains for next week but have found all websites and will show dh- NOt sure about what other areas to look at as I only really know San Candido and San Martino in this side. The piccolo Temple and a residence Rainer are on my short list.
AGree re magazines and the sat/ sun editions it is so annoying as what is in them is advertised on the front page ! They are also very expensive. Better go and wake dd or she will not go to sleep tonight. I have ac on in sala and ventilatore in bedroom dread teh electric bill!!!
