Ciao , Hello , Welcome .

erm, no, not really. Thing is that there were so little shops in exeter that once in a while a trip to poundland was actually quite exciting. Our tkmaxx was quite unreliable. Best bargain were to fab shirts for dd from antik batik.

Rosa · 17/06/2008 14:49

I think sorry Italians that they are too proud to swap and freecycle. Ok don't get offended but so much is how they look present themselves, what borse, scarpe they have etc where as the casa might be run down. I have had to give all my spare stuff to an Ukranian lady to send to the Ukraine as she says they need it ( am hoping she is not selling it on !!!). After dd2 have to think what I need to do with the spare stuff some I might sell in the Uk some I will hand on to anybody that wants it.

Brangelina · 17/06/2008 14:56

I have the same problem Rosa. I really cannot understand it, I foolishly once offered someone a little outfit DD had worn once and by the look on her face you'd have thought I'd offered her a truckload of dog poo. I even said you can wash it again in Napisan if you like. Sheesh, some people. I was only too glad to get hand me downs.

Rant over. I think I'll put some of the nicer stuff on ebay UK (no point doing it on Italian ebay) and try and find somewhere to offload the not quite so nice but perfectly serviceable gear. My sis gives hers to a Women's Aid refuge, but I can't find anything like that here. Not keen on giving to suore.....

francagoestohollywood · 17/06/2008 16:07

I gave stuff (including a double buggy) to charity shops in exeter and to friends. But I still have boxes of the dc's clothes plus friends give the clothes back once their dc grwo out of them... I'm very happy I found la ricicleria!
There are a few second hand children shop in Milan. One, I'm told, deals very posh stuff... should go and have a look...

Brangelina · 17/06/2008 16:19

But where do you give stuff in Italy? I only ever see those Humanitas bins which end up in capannoni somewhere. I know there is a second hand place near Parco Solari, but it didn't have much nice stuff when I went in (lots of tartan playsuits) and there were never many people in. Maybe I should ask what their share is to sell my stuff.

Got to go and pick up DD on the bloody bus now as it's raining AGAIN. Have foolishly put another load of washing on out of necessaity, but I'll have you lot know that it was already raining when I switched the machine on[ sticks tongue out emoticon]

francagoestohollywood · 17/06/2008 16:41

I think there's more than one second hand shop. I'll check on pagine gialle.
I'm keeping the dc's clothes, because I'm waiting for sil to get pg . Mind you I'm not sure she'll go for second hand ... A friend in exeter still has my baby stuff, like seggiolina, back pack etc

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/06/2008 17:00

actually v posh friends in pg do all the swapping children clothes and things, which was impressive considering the italian mindset re such things. I mist admit I have taken a lot but not given any clothes yet as not sure when I'll stop needing them !!

Rosa · 17/06/2008 18:49

Oh to be young and be able to have more children..This I think will be my last.I agree in the Uk what stuff I have I lend to neighbour as she has sister with LO 6 mths behind dd cot, highchair, boots, jackets etc ( when they come to stay). I happily 'borrow' toys and accept clothes if I need them no problem. I have had some lovely petit bateau!!!
Brangelina hope you have a fab holiday you are off domani ?? It is thundering nicely here and my washing is in thank you .

shhhhhh rosa, I'm so broody. the other day there was a young mum breastfeeding a 3 months old on the tram, he was so utterly gorgeous... I think I'm keeping some of the dc's stuff because I'm kidding myself...

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/06/2008 20:05

dh didn't like the idea of dd2 getting all hand me downs from dd1 (he's got what I call the syndrome of the second child - while me being the first don't care). in fact he loves now to see the old clothes out as it brings back lots of memories.

Brangelina · 17/06/2008 21:45

I must admit I've been keeping DD's stuff for the very same reason, although who am I kidding, as I'm now very old. But then, you never know, do you.

I'm off tomorrow evening, got to go and buy a present for friend's little boy, plus wax my bikini line (oh joy!) and hope that a few items I've washed dry in time. My washing is in too (not been able to hang it out at all) and the de-humidifier is on.

francagoestohollywood · 18/06/2008 09:08

Ciao Brangelina buon viaggio!

lol at your dh, pippi. Mine doesn't have a clue. couldn't recognize a single vestito ...

Brangelina · 18/06/2008 10:11

Grazie! I have to get off here and down to the shops or I won't have anything ready for tonight. Tis a terrible thing, addiction.

My DP would never have recognised old outfits either, he has been known to ask me if something was new after I'd been wearing it for a year or so.

gio71 · 18/06/2008 10:19

Have a lovely holiday Brange
Pippi your dh is amazing-mine would be clueless-wouldnt recognise anything. lol at yours re outfit Brange, sounds familiar-mind you the bonus is I need never worry he'll accuse me of spending too much on clothes (not that I do-in my dreams) as he hasn't got a clue when something's new.
ds's old stuff is slowly taking over our apartment, I refuse to throw it away til I know for sure whether there will be dc2 or not. Dp did say the other day that he isn't actually against the idea anymore, but we need to be in a bigger apartment first.... Bye-am off to feverishly trawl through estate agents websites for 2 bed flats....

francagoestohollywood · 18/06/2008 10:49

good luck with your search gio .

I'm looking for something that should be easier to fin, but is proving complicated... a nice pair of shorts. for myself. to go to the beach. Not too teenager. But not sciura either

francagoestohollywood · 18/06/2008 10:49

find

Rosa · 18/06/2008 12:22

Hope that you managed to get everything dry or you will have to hang it out the windows as you drive down...Including DP's muffa underpants ! Have a great time.
Gio flat hunting impossible. I know what you mean. As you all know I hit the 40 so another is not probable also we just couldn't afford everything that goes with it - a larger house for starters! But I am really hoping that I can enjoy this one as much as I did dd knowing that its my last.
Read all of 'Insieme' whilst had feet done this morning oh the fun of passeggini hunting!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 18/06/2008 12:53

Oh rosa, you will enjoy this one . I enjoyed dd (my second) as a baby much more than I did with ds (possibly because she was sooooo easy?). Or because with a second it looks easier.

Are you passeggini hunting?

Sputnik · 18/06/2008 16:39

I have been enjoying DS more than I did DD, especially as I know he'll be the last, I am savouring his babyhood I don't think there's much of it left now though, he'll be walking soon. He has also been very easy going compared to DD, which is lucky!

Rosa · 18/06/2008 18:37

I am always passeggini hunting and I always buy and then a nicer one comes out. DH has said stop but am sure I can wangle another . BOUght dd room today nearly bought pink but went for vanilla and noce ( its all chipboard covered stuff). Pretty practical for WHEN we move ( whenever that willbe). Sent dh a pic before bought and got the ok ( phew). Now have to do Ikea for all the nice extras

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 19/06/2008 07:07

I def enjoy the baby stage much more this time round. I fret a lot less and take it easy.

went to see persepolis yesterday. it's very very good. as goods as the books. lots of laughter and tears go if you can.

going to the west-end made me realise in what suburban place I live now. I felt a whiff of rebellion rising... oh never mind back to tidying up. wish we could win the lottery and move to bloomsbury !

francagoestohollywood · 19/06/2008 11:43

Ikea has beautiful duvet covers for children, ime and rugs. I love it!
So what passeggino are you buying rosa?

Pippi I'm impressed with your social life .

So, we all agree that the baby stage with the second is eaiser and better. I'll be controversial and say that what I found very difficult with my second was the stage between 9 months (or when they start to get mobile) and around 24 months. I feel very guilty, because the more I thonk back, the more I realize that dd was really easy going during that stage too. It was probably because I had 2 under threes... bah.
Anyway, today I went to buy books for my dear friend's dd who is turning 1, bless, and how lovely are the books for babies! I bought 1 from mary murphy (do recommend) and 1 miffy.

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/06/2008 11:50

I know I am quite impressed too ! left dh with the dds and you should have seen the wooried face he pulled while I was walking out of the door. he was fine btw.

hopefully dh will go out tonight so I can have a girlie night with dvd on my own - that is bliss!!!

books for babies are wonderful...

francagoestohollywood · 19/06/2008 11:57

Sounds like a good plan

Yes, every time I look at baby books or the baby section at du pareil au meme, I feel terribly broody
