Actually one of them did - he was a love of my life for about 8 mths then he stuffed up messed me round and I vowed never again ( yawn yawn!)
Have been building up to try and go and wander round the sales but dh might be going down with a cold so that will be me grounded for a week !!!

whats the weather like Rosa? Am back on Sat for 2 weeks and shivering at the thought.

Brangelina · 17/07/2008 23:52

Hiya I'm back! Thank God for the Eurostar is all I can say. It was so hot in Rome, it seems to really make a difference after all being up north.

Sputnik, do you live in that area of rolling hills that the train goes though on its way to Firenze? If so , I love rolling hills. Can't be doing with serious mountains for more than a few days and am not keen on endless plains, but rolling hills are my perfect scenario.

Yes, I was a cubista for a very short period. You earn lotsa money, doncha know? Or at least you did in my day. My short career only ended because I couldn't cope with the music (endless techno) and the clothes requirements in certain places. It was fun while it lasted though, I still danced on cubes in gay clubs for many years after that (sadly unpaid and generally unencouraged).

Lol at the sega story. I take it he never bothered you again?
I once got accosted by someone offering me "un bel salamone" I just said no thanks, I'm vegetarian and only noticed what he was holding in his hand when my friend pointed it out to me. Seemed such a nice guy too.... That summer in Milan there was a spate of street corner seghe, it must have been the juxtaposition of the stars or something.

Rosa · 18/07/2008 14:19

Erm not that hot but a warm spell is on its way or so they say next week. The sales are NAF diddn't manage to buy anyting for dd and I was trying hard !
It is hot in Vce as well... Gio its nice to be amongst cooler weather to be honest.
Happy birthday to your dd Brang must be today or domani... LOL re the Salmone was it affumicato???
Is Franca ever coming back she must be going to Spain soon ??

Franca's back on Tuesday apparently, couldn't find a train back before then. She is suffering from sevr withdrawal symptoms so will be logging oon as soon as she is in wi-fi range.

DD's bday was yesterday, she got loads of presents from everyone except her parents, not that she noticed but I do feel a bit of a meany so might see if I can find something nice this weekend. To be fair I did buy her lots of lovely dresses in the sale for next year, plus some silly knicker sets she wanted. Gosh, I sound such a stingebag, don't I? Trouble is I have no idea what to get her other than clothes, she got lots of weird and wonderful bts and bobs from the UK plus the house is already groaning under the weight of toys. Hmmmm, will have to see.

Rosa, I find the UK sales are not so good anymore, when I was back at Christmas I couldn't find a single thing to buy. Oh well, at least you save money.

Rosa · 18/07/2008 19:22

I know but I went shopping with dh money today thats what annoyed me more I think !!!
I did see a few nice toys for dd but its how to get them back to Italy . Looked on next preview site for sales and it is already nil. I can remember when like Italy all teh sales started at once in teh Uk now it seems to be each doing what and when they want.
Even TKMaxx had nothing and I normally stock up on a few things there.
Knicker sets I fell over at the Cassa in the DIsney store when dd for doing so well with the potty ( complete success by the way now !!) chose blessed princess pants Eu17 for like 6 pairs !!

Lol at the salamone! Where do they get these subtle lines from I wonder? I was once looking at seeds in the agricolo place (back when I had an orto), and the guy in there started asking if I liked piselli. I said yes, and fagiolini and favi too. Don't know what got into the guy's head, he was about 30 years older than me, and i used to go in there all the time with DH.

I do live in that area of rolling hills north of Rome, though I am halfway up the mountain behind the rolling hills. It's a bit cooler than Rome, I couldn't cope either!

We had my DD's birthday party today, she will be 4 on wednesday. We have never bought her loads of presents either really, but she does get random stuff through the year. We went halves on a doll's house this year with my parents though, and she was lucky as we saved points on yogurt and got one of those plastic kitchens, which happened to arrive this week.

Brangelina · 21/07/2008 09:50

I think the cheesy lines are genetic - an Italian friend of mine who was born and grew up in London used to come out with the worst chat up lines ever, such as "have you got any Italian in you?" then upon hearing no "Would you like some?". He had a huge repertoire of these lines and what's worse is that a lot of girls fell for them. Used to make me cringe big time.

Happy birthday to your DD, another lovely July babe. The coolest time of the year to have a little one (apart from the crap AC at the hospital and my silly room mate who kept switching it off grrrr).
I do feel a bit sorry for my DD in that she'll never have a proper birthday party as all her friends will probably be al mare with their nonni. Another part of me is quite glad that I won't have to go through the palaver, also because they all seem to hire places and have entertainers here.

Rosa, there was an article in the Guardian today about the exodus of real Venetians from Venice. It made me think of you and your fruitless quest for sour cream. Now I understand

Rosa · 21/07/2008 14:34

Happy Birthday to your dd. Hope she had a lovely day. Now I must start saving points a friend of mine got a bike from Pampers . I do have a Coop Card but other than a discount on the spese I tend to charity the rest. SIL gives her children an early and a late party as one is Aug 31 other July 1st . The older one has one mid sept with her school friends and last year was the first year that they had an entertainer. Previous years age 5 I did musical bumps and pass the parcel with them. Then they all raced round with balloons - I said no to this year as I felt they could try and do something themselves.
Interesting article Brang dh and I haven't talked about it that much but I am wondering if we might try and move to somewhere else. Thing is Dh needs to be in the city for periods of time and if and when I go back to work it could offer something for me - BUT what does it offer the children , schools are also closing or merging the education IMO is not good. Oh well we will see.For now we are out of it and dd is thriving I sware she has put on weight !!

francagoestohollywood · 22/07/2008 09:34

I'M BACK!!!
how are you all? what did I miss?
me, I'm supertanned ...
how are you all?
Pippi, dh told me that the pacco arrived the other day, thank you ever so much (I'm at inlaws, arrived with the night train this morning, will hopefully be in milan for the weekend. I long for some pollution).

Brangelina · 22/07/2008 13:24

Blimey, did you log on as soon as you stepped off the train?

at the tan, although my feet are nice and brwon from having been burned in Tuscany.

Hot, no we haven't booked or even decided yet as DP was supposed to be sorting it out and needless to say didn't do a thing. At the mo France is looking pretty good, not least because a lot of campsites are actually cheaper than in Italyand better equipped. Also DP had a bit of a bee in his bonnet about wanting to go to Paris by car, obviously an ideal trip with a 3yo. We've been looking in the South of France, some Costa Azzura but I quite like Languedoc Roussillon although it's quite far. Basically we're just going to have to go where there is availability.

francagoestohollywood · 22/07/2008 13:30

yep

Sputnik · 22/07/2008 17:55

Welcome back Franca
If you want to camp Brange have you considered Croatia? They have great campsites there, we went island hopping there a few years ago.

oh fgs

Brangelina · 22/07/2008 19:17

DP thought of Croatia but the beaches are not good for littlies apparently. I did look at a couple of sites that looked quite good though. Do you know anywhere with a sandy beach? I think the attraction of going to France (for DP that is) is that a) the cheeses are very nice and b) I speak the language so he's less worried about being shafted.

I can't say I'm fussed, but the trouble with going to a place where only I speak the language is that I will be constantly hassled to translate even the most boring minutae....

Rosa · 22/07/2008 19:39

Korcula has a lovely sandy beach its on the other side from the main town . The island has a regular ferry service in summer but its first come first serve and a bu**er on a sat as its main change over day.
Otherwise its all stones I know there is another but can't remember. Beaches are stones which is a pain and teh water is cold but oh boy the food and wine are good ..I just happen to remember 2 places to eat on Korcula as well
France welcome back so go on tell us more ......You have ben missed btw !!

We went to cres years and years ago, cannot remember if there were any sandy beaches, remember very clearly the lovely white wine and fish!
Ciao Franca, remind me where you have been and what you have eaten, not much memory for anything these days...

hotHELL · 22/07/2008 19:55

www.island-cres.com/Island-Cres.htm
here is a link for cres, still looks beatiful...

Brangelina · 23/07/2008 12:47

Grrr I'm sooo angry with DP. He won't do anything to look for this holiday, time is running out and a decision has to be made. I swear if I end up having to do another holiday without him or not end up taking DD anywhere out of Monza I will have to give him a severe kicking, possibly out the door and down the stairs, never to return.

I think he's trying to make it difficult because I've said I don't want to sleep in the same room as his 13yo DS, which I think is entirely reasonable. I mean, would he want to share a room with my mum for 2 weeks? All the palces I've found in France are 2 bedrooms anyway, so I don't see the problem. FFS I just wish he'd grow up
