That'd cost a fortune for BT to do that. So they probably won't. The only other options is wireless broadband, or some such. One day I'll get a pooter and broadband at home again, but not just yet. Too poor, and as this is only a rental, a bit of a waste of money.

I'm glad you had a good hols Lyra - how's the face, is it better?

And re dvds - I worked my way through the entire set of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Not brilliant, but still very good. And Josh-from-the-West-Wing was just sooo cute. As was Chandler-from-friends.
Now I'm waiting for my next delivery - Hugh's latest is just out.

Berrie · 26/08/2008 15:31

Helloooo!
Lyra, gald you had a lovely hols and the house is back on track.
Oggs, can't you get an enormous satellite dish or something?
Zeb, hope you are all better.

We had a lovely time in Richmond. I am sooo jealous of db for living there. We walked miles home from Richmond along the river on Friday and had a lazy picnic in the park on Saturday. Dh and I went out for drinks and a meal for our anniversary. One of the best bits was getting a taxi back for £8.30. It costs £22 fro m our town so we never go.

My baby boy starts school on Thursday - gulp. I veer between worrying about him and growling roll on Thursday.

oggsfrog · 26/08/2008 16:53

BT....lay a cable to us..... eeh.... can't see that happening tbh Lyra

We're at least 10 miles away from the village where the BT exchange is, and there are only 5 households and we're all about a mile away from each other, so no.
We can't even get a decent phone line (it's always faint with a buzz on the line).

I phoned for an update this afternoon and it'll be the end of the week before we're sorted . They've got to replace some cable along the main road apparently.

To top it off, the BT bill arrived in the post today . Ha! I'm tempted to tell them where they can stuff it.
We get an absolutely shit service and still pay full line rental for all the time the phone is off. And they charge us to pay the bill 'cos I refuse to have direct debit. Bastards!

Berrie, a very, very large satellite dish would probably work, but it would cost £1000's to install and the monthly charge would mean I'd have to rob a bank sell my body sell dd send dh out to be a gigolo win the lottery to be able to pay it. We don't actually do the lottery so not a very workable solution.

Very long rant as I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back online.

Zeb, what is Huge's new film?

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 26/08/2008 17:13

It's called Deception and also stars Ewan McGregor. So a double whammy on that one But Oggs, look into wireless broadband, you never know....

And now my moan. DS is spending the weekend with DH and apparently spent a lot of it saying 'mummy says I don't like cows, pigs, chickens, farms etc etc' which seriously ticked off & depressed DH as far as I can figure. This, followed up with 'I have a mummy and a daddy but I don't have a family'. I can swear that none of this came from me, but DH is now making me feel guilty as hell about the whole thing, although I have a vague feeling that the family stuff comes from nursery pals having brothers and sisters, which he of course doesn't.

DH doesn't really get that a 3YO is going to be more attached to his ma than his pa, but that this will change as he gets older. But frankly, I'm so fed up with it all (and being broke and unable to squeeze money out of him because he has cashflow problems at work), I'm really getting tempted to high tail it straight back to London or thereabouts to be nearer my family and earn a decent salary, and hang the consequences.

Sorry, it's all just so grim making and there's not really a solution.

Right. Off home to cheer myself up somehow. Don't worry, I'll be fine again tomorrow.

oggsfrog · 26/08/2008 20:31

Hmm... you can keep Ewan McGregor, he's never done anything for me tbh...

I'm so sorry you're having a hard time of it at the moment Zeb. It can't be easy having to juggle all those different balls and try to keep everyone happy .

If it's any consolation dd does that thing about not having any brothers or sisters and feeling lonely etc. It breaks my heart and I have tried my best to explain that things don't always work out/ bodies don't always work right etc.
We try to emphasise all the good things about being an only child rather than letting it become a negative.

Hope the world seems a little brighter tomorrow .

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 27/08/2008 09:18

Thanks Oggs. Yes, it's a bit better this morning, but I'm seeing them around lunchtime so we'll see how that goes.

Berrie · 27/08/2008 09:57

Sorry that things are difficult Zeb.

I hope that lunchtime goes ok.
Is dh still based in Cornwall or is he working away again?

oggsfrog · 27/08/2008 10:20

Yes, good luck for lunchtime Zeb

So you had a good weekend Berrie? Is ds looking forward to tomorrow?

Lyra, where are the pics?

Berrie · 27/08/2008 15:50

I think he is.He's not had much choice what with us all telling him how terrible exciting it all is. I've sewn the name tapes in now and we're ready to go!

oggsfrog · 28/08/2008 07:15

Hope all goes well this morning Berrie and that Master Berrie enjoys his first day at school .

Zeb, hope everything went okay yesterday lunchtime.

Lyra. Pictures.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 28/08/2008 09:22

Good luck Berrie. I hope you've taken the obligatory 'my first day at school' photo. Ahhh.
Yesterday was a non-starter as far as DH was concerned. I didn't see him until after work, and basically it's all fine really. He just seems to me to be blowing every little thing out of all proportion, as I think he's currently going through a very bad stage.
More of an issue for me is the money as his income is variable on a monthly basis, which means my monthly outgoings are pretty precarious. I'm not quite sure what to do about this, because if he doesn't have the cash, he can't hand any over. But it means that I spend all month feeling like I'm begging, which is just awful. I'm even begging from my parents which I hate.
Anyway, let's think of more cheerful things.
Lyra - photos!!!!

TheQueenIsDead · 28/08/2008 10:26

Sorry, sorry, yes I'll get round to it soon
Berrie, we want a full report of DS's first day at school.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/08/2008 12:00

There should be holiday pics on my profile now.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/08/2008 12:01

Aaaargh! I knew it wouldn't work.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 28/08/2008 13:52

They're there now Lyra. Looks awful.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/08/2008 13:56

Can you see all of them? I don't know what's visible to everybody and what's visible to just you lot.

Berrie · 28/08/2008 14:06

They look great Lyra! Lucky you!
Annoyingly fuzzy though, I want to get a good look at your DP

Ds was excited and nervous this morning. He went quite happily but was rather quiet once there. He said he'd really really miss me while he was at school...sob...I fetched him home for lunch which was actually quite nice. He said he'd had fun and had lots to talk about. He said that you had to do EVERYTHING that the teachers said like fold your arms! he wasn't so sure about going back in because they made them line up, something he'd not done before and the girl behind put her hands on his shoulders - I think she thought it was a game. he made a bit of a fuss and held up the line but then changed his mind and went in. Someone at the front of the line was really kicking off which was a bit distressing for all. I think I'm going to make him stay for lunch next week even though they'd prefer us to take them home for a fortnight.
That's as much as I know at the mo...should be a picture on my profile.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 28/08/2008 14:10

Sounds like he's ok Berrie. And I thought the same about the piccie of Lyra's DH.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/08/2008 18:40

Ok, I'll post one of DP when I get a minute. Berrie, there are no pics on your profile.

Berrie · 28/08/2008 19:03

Bugger!

Berrie · 28/08/2008 19:09

I can't remeber what the problem is...there always used to be one...what have I missed re. picture posting?

LyraSilvertongue · 28/08/2008 19:51

I had problems with it earlier. I found the way to solve it was to make one picture visible to all mumsnetters, then the rest appear on your gallery, visible only to your mumsnet mates.

Berrie · 28/08/2008 20:08

Thanks Lyra...that was it I think...something daft, why don't they change it?

oggsfrog · 29/08/2008 10:36

Aw Berrie, he loooks all growed up . How did it go? Was he eager to go?
Did you get the pre-school bill thingy sorted?

Lyra, it look absolutely gorgeous. Your own pool ...your own villa .... in fact .... a holiday abroad . Bugg'rit.... a holiday full stop

Berrie · 29/08/2008 11:04

Yes eager if a little nervous.
He was shy this morning and not keen to let me go.
We didn't get the bill sorted. I'm just ignoring her at the mo. She can take me to Court if she wants

Metal Petal apperars to have unbroodied herself at last! Perhaps she'll lay us some blimmin' eggs at last!

Would I be really daft to spend my birthday money on a pair of red Docs? You know how it is when you get an idea in your head about something...D'you think I'd look like I were 17 again and really ought to know better. Also d'yo reckon I'd be arsed to put them on and off all day with all those laces?
