if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

Why not think about this differently.... If babysitting can earn you more money than this job.... then BABYSIT! If your baby sleeps well, then you could offer a sitting service where you bring your baby to another house (I'm assuming you have transport) or have kids dropped off at yours....

It's got to be better than leaving a little one at home. Even if nothing bad happened while you were away, even something mudane could lead to social services taking your baby away.

you can't be a babysitter in your own house. you have to register as a CM. i have advertised as a babysitter loads but never had any replies. i think the fact i would have to take my own ds puts people off.

Don't know what happen mid thread, but I still think you could get a student sitter no bother if you are finishing at 10.30.

Sorry but I would report if I found out a baby was being left every night alone.
