I,ve been a mumnetter for a little while now and ive just had the most brian numbingly stupid thought. I was browsing through another thread asking how Suedomin was as she lives in indonisia(forgive me if im wrong), and it suddenly dawned on me that mumsnetters are spread around the world(the wonders of the www), i suppose i thought(stupid i know) that you all lived in the uk, so i thought id ask(if you dont mind) where abouts other mumsnetters live .I live in the south of England(south gloucestershire to be precise).

For you Colchester girls, where is a good place to live? My dp is the manager of shop (Richer Sounds, St Botolphs st) there so it makes sense to move there seeing that prices are so ridiculous here in SWF and we need another bedroom for our new addition. I've heard Lexden is nice!

thumper · 19/10/2002 23:34

North London for me, about four stops from top of Piccadilly Line.

charliesmummy · 20/10/2002 00:22

wicketwaterwitch - completely the reverse, I come from near Totnes and about 3 years ago moved to Salisbury!. So we both swapped places. Where abouts in Devon - God I do miss it.

WideWebWitch · 20/10/2002 11:03

charliesmummy, I'm quite near where you come from! What a coincidence. I came here via Salisbury, Bristol, Bath and London.

Eulalia · 20/10/2002 13:43

In a very old house in the country 20 miles south of Aberdeen.

SueDonim · 20/10/2002 15:24

Ooh, is that Stonehaven way, Eulalia?

tracyhay - yes, Lexden is lovely. I personally think that it is the nicest area in Colchester, but according to the estate agents, it covers a much larger area than it actually does IYKWIM! The best bit of Lexden IMO is the Cambridge Road/Oxford Road/Beverley Road/The Avenue area, and Lexden road. Prices are high, but then if you are coming from the London area down to us, that shouldn't affect you!

BTW Richer Sounds is my dh's favourite shop! If you want, when you finally get here, we could get together, and I can take you on the grand tour of Colchester's high spots (I can do this in 5 minutes!)

Lou33 - Who is your brother? The name might ring a bell. If you are looking out for me in November, I'll be the one in the M&S cafe, drinking a large cappucino, with the gorgeous 15 month boy who flirts with all the ladies!! See you there!

lou33 · 20/10/2002 18:29

Chinchilla, my brother left school in the 70's so it would be unlikely you knew him. I'll be lurking around M&S now on the search for you!

katmam · 20/10/2002 19:02

I'm in Stubbington, about 20 miles (?) away from Portsmouth at the moment.

Have also lived in various parts of London, Athens, Bromley (totally agree, Deborahf, I love Bromley and miss it dreadfully! Give me the Glades any day, none of this West Quays business!), before moving to London it was Aberdeen, Peterhead and Hopeman.

spacemonkey · 20/10/2002 20:01

Tracyhay, Lexden is where the posh people live (the really posh people live in the villages around the edges of Colchester tho), Maldon Road (and its offshoots) is considered home to the chattering classes, some bits of Newtown (Gladstone Road, Newtown Road) are nice as well (and v convenient for richer sounds!). I live in the Dutch Quarter which is right in the town centre - there are some wonderful properties and it's a lovely historic part of the town to live in. Castle Road, also right in the town centre, is also well known as a nice area to live. There are various nasty estates which should be avoided (Greenstead, Barnhall and St Anne's), but I suppose this is the case anywhere really!

Ailsa · 20/10/2002 20:17

Not me oxocube. There was another Ailsa at my school, maybe it was her!!!!

futurity · 20/10/2002 20:18

Born in Great Baddow...then University of Luton - now in South Cambridgeshire!

Futurity I lived in Luton for 6 years, did you loathe it as much as me?!

Eulalia · 20/10/2002 20:55

Yep SueDonim - if I remember correctly you used to live in this area too?

futurity · 20/10/2002 20:55

Yes! I was there for 3 years at university and then lived there for another year after that (mad!). My hubby refuses to go back as he hated it so much but we have been to see old friends who still live there.

Paula1 · 20/10/2002 21:14

Broomfield, Essex

triplets · 20/10/2002 22:27

I live in Deal in Kent, the sea-side! I was born here and still love the place. On a clear dai I can see across the channel and see the cliffs of France! Great place for a holiday!

WideWebWitch · 20/10/2002 22:28

who's clear Dai?

IDismyname · 20/10/2002 22:33

Thanks Lou33!
I'm about a mile from Frensham. Dunno why I never found out about the trees. Perhaps see you on the 15th!

I live in nw london, but am moving to west london, but my heart is in Los Angeles where I used to live.

lou33 · 21/10/2002 00:41

I am the same as your hubby Futurity, and even refuse to visit friends there (not that I could be bothered with most of the locals anyway!).

lou33 · 21/10/2002 00:43

Fms, I'll be the one laughing hysterically at my husband chopping the tree down in the style of Frank Spencer, with my 4 children looking either embarrassed or confused!

titchy · 21/10/2002 11:03

North Surrey for me, also 'done' London and Brighton. But love it where we are - very peaceful, but handy for London for those weekends of clubs and culture (yeah right...)
