What date did you get married?

Just wondered when people got married and if there was any particular reason for choosing a certain date.

We got married on the 17th February. Nothing to do with it being near Valentines day. I get very hot and sweaty in the summer and didn't want a shiny face and wet armpits on my big day
Also its a bit of a miserable time of year as everyones getting fed up with the winter. Thought it would give everyone something to look forward to. Also we knew it would be cold so people didn't have to worry about what to wear (British summers are so unpredictable!)

I sound like I'm trying to justify my reasons for choosng February!

Wonder what is the most popular month?

18th July 1998, had to be out of the football season, and it seem to work out, also where I was working at the time closed for three weeks at the summer, and this was the first Saturday of the hols.

Oooggs, did your parents get married in the morning?

Paula71 · 25/09/2004 21:21

30 May 1998 for us. No special reason other than we wanted to marry where DH proposed (or rather in the registrars office, turned out to be in her home which was lovely.) That was one of the dates we could have.

Posey · 25/09/2004 21:22

Oooggs, my birthday!

Definitely alot of May, July and September weddings. When I get a moment I'll do a quick count up, unless anyone else fancies it.

We got married on 10th September 1988, a perfect late summer's day - warm and sunny with a bright blue sky. I get the wedding video out occasionally even now to have a little reminisce, because I enjoyed the day so much. Haven't tried on my wedding ddress for a while though ... suspect it might not fit me now.

gothicmama · 26/09/2004 17:51

we got married the week end after we had teh ok about my pg (we had reached 14 weeks)

JoolsToo · 26/09/2004 17:55

just to clear it up - I got married on April Fools but I'm not ebbie22's mum!

lilibet · 26/09/2004 17:57

Xanthe - that was my parent's anniversary and they had a very long and happy marriage. I remember looking at them a few years before my Dad died and they were laughing and looking at one another and just looked so in love still. At the time they were both in their seventies!

Oooggs · 26/09/2004 18:15

Ebbie22 - yes they were married in the morning!!!!!! And are still going strong

Posey - I won't forget your birthday.

libb · 26/09/2004 18:20

11.11.2000 - was a great idea at the time

Not sure when the next one will be . . . .

Posey · 26/09/2004 20:26

I think I have too much time on my hands.

The most popular months are May, july and September with 10 each. May the 16th is the most popular with 4 weddings.
All months had at least one wedding.

So now we know

11 years ago yesterday.

13th July 2002. No particular reason for the date but we really wanted to be married before ds went to school and it is just so much easier having the same surname.

We also met 8 years ago today!

Belated Happy Anniversary Tanzie!

Married, 16th Aug, 1997. An absolute scorcher!!
We only decided to get married in the Feb, didn't want to wait and choices of dates were limited. I regret it now- going anywhere for our anniversary is always so expensive being in peak season and to be sure we always have to book in advance.
I will always remember the day we were coming back home from our honeymoon in Dominican Rep. we heard that Princess Di had been killed!

mears · 26/09/2004 23:29

Friday 20th September 1985. It just was date that we could tie evrything up for.

As an add-on to this thread - how long were you engaged for? We got engaged on 9th June 1984. Took that long to get the wedding venue and cars arranged for the same date for the wedding 'cause we wanted a Friday.

toddlerbob · 27/09/2004 03:38

22nd March, the first saturday of the easter school holidays that year in case I left college and became a teacher. I didn't as it happened, but because Easter moves each year at least I didn't saddle us with expensive anniversary holidays every year. It was a lovely sunny day and I remember it rained every weekend in July that year.

colinsmommy · 27/09/2004 04:32

Exactly 6 years ago today (it is still the 26th here in Oregon) My dh asked me to marry him, and it was the first weekend that was open after that.

Louise1968 · 27/09/2004 08:45

11th May 1996 - Cup Final day. DH was especially peeved as his team (Liverpool) were playing. We got married at 3-30 pm, halfway through the first half so he didn't see any of it, and neither did any of our football loving guests.

By the way, Liverpool lost to Man. utd. Good job dh had the small matter of getting married to take his mind off it. I made him feel better that night!!

ladymuck · 27/09/2004 08:56

20 & 21 October 1995 . We wanted to get married in a C of E church, but not by the vicar, so had a registry office affair the day before.

We got engaged on 2 July that year, having started going out on 2 June - so there was only 20 weeks between starting to go out and getting married - not sure with hindsight that I would recommend it!

fio2 · 27/09/2004 09:02

Dingle, you got married exactly the same day and year as me

and yes it was bloody roasting!

Britney · 27/09/2004 09:12

22nd May 1999 - we chose that weekend in May thinking it wouldn't clash with the FA Cup Final, but it did! Half of family are Newcastle United fans & disappeared as soon as we got back to the hotel after ceremony at church to watch the game. My uncle's wife has never forgiven him - neither he or two of my cousins are in any of the offical family photographs. Didn't spoil things for me & hubby though. We videoed the match and watched it the next evening at home with an indian takeaway!

Titania · 27/09/2004 09:51

happy anniversary whymummy!!!!

we got married on the 8th may 1999...was supposed to be april 30th, which was one year to the date we got together, but DH was away in kent for that week, so we had to have it the week after, on a saturday. My mum wouldnt come to the wedding though....

Tessiebear · 27/09/2004 09:53

4th October. DH birthday is on the 27th Sept (today) My birthday is on 1st Oct.... so by the time we get to our anniversary we barely manage to send a card as we have done our "celebrating" for the week!

triplets · 27/09/2004 10:01

Hi,
We got married on the 23rd Sept 19??! I dare not say which year as Tessiebear will realize how old I am and not want to meet me! Also most of you got married in the 90`s, oh I feel so old!!!!!!!
