What date did you get married?

Just wondered when people got married and if there was any particular reason for choosing a certain date.

We got married on the 17th February. Nothing to do with it being near Valentines day. I get very hot and sweaty in the summer and didn't want a shiny face and wet armpits on my big day
Also its a bit of a miserable time of year as everyones getting fed up with the winter. Thought it would give everyone something to look forward to. Also we knew it would be cold so people didn't have to worry about what to wear (British summers are so unpredictable!)

I sound like I'm trying to justify my reasons for choosng February!

5th January, decided and all organised within six weeks to coincide with my brother visiting from overseas. Invited everybody knowing full well that only those who really cared would make the effort so close to Christmas and New Year. Enough time to make it special but not enough to obsess or change our minds about anything. Perfect for us.

16 May was my Dad's birthday, a very popular day for good things to happen!!

First time 18 june 1983 (gulp), next and final time 18 Feb next year.

May 30th - wanted a May wedding as thought not too hot or too cold, nice light for pics, etc. It chucked it down (can't tell in photos though). Hotel for rception is now site of Tesco Petrol Station - romantic!

We got married on 23rd March 1990. Have my weeding flowers pressed with the date prominently on the wall so there's NO WAY dh will forget, and to be fair, he never has.
I've just asked him why March (cos I can't remember) and he told me that he just couldn't wait till July to be with me ( vomit emotion!!)Even tho' we'd been living together for 2 years- but it was a nice (and quick) response

another one for may 16th (1998 too!!)... it was a superb day - late autumn in South Africa, it was a gorgeous day...

It was my DS1's due date too!

We also got married on 8/8/98, I like neat dates my birthday is 2/2/&! and dh is 20/2/&! and dd1 and ds were born on the 10ths of may and sept respectively and dd2 was born on 20th sept so all of our special dates are easyish to remember, dh did forget anniversary this year but we were on holiday so we were spending the day together anyway.
We had the one non wet day that summer, it had chucked it down that year rather like this year or is that just the usual British summer!

I got married on September 11th!!! Not a great date for celebrating on but we got married in 99 before the tragedy - however, we now get reminded of it every year when it's in the news.

I think we've been here before dejags. It was DD's due date as well, but she arrived early on 15th. So we still haven't had that anniversary meal....

25 February 1995, my excuse is that I wanted to be married before I was 32 - on 26 February 1995! We had decided to marry in March but had forgotten that you can't marry in church during Lent, didn't want to push it back until after Lent (quite what the rush was I don't know, we'd been together 5 years) so went for the Saturday before Lent. At least dh has no excuse for forgetting the date (unless he's going to forget my birthday as well).

2nd April 1994, just because the only date they had was Easter weekend otherwise we'd have had to wait months. Just celebrated 10 happy years with a trip to Disneyworld.

10 November 1999 it was a Wednesday and we were married the the Florida Keys. It was lovely weather and we had a party 28 November 1999, a Saturday when we returned to the UK.

18th November. We suddenly had the chance of married quarters through dh being in the RN and arranged it all in five weeks. My mum was very taken aback and just kept squeaking 'What about a cake? You can't get a wedding cake in five weeks.' We did, of course.

We got married on 14th September. It was also my parents 39th Wedding Anniversary.

First time, 3rd January 1998 because it was the date ds was conceived (bleurrgh! what were we on?!) and because we thought most people would be able to make it because it was close to being back at work after xmas date.

Second time might be 20th Nov this year. We've booked the reg office but not sure if we'll actually go for that day, we might cancel and rearrange. We chose a random Saturday in November because I like winter and because I really wanted it to be before our dd is one, which will be 10 days later.

We're getting married on 7th May next year. No special reason, we just fancied May, and the 7th was the only saturday available at the hotel we wanted.

10 December 1997. No particular reason, except that it was a wednesday so that only the people who really mattered would be there, and I didn't want it any later as DS1 was due on the 8/2! We'd been together 10 years before TTC, so it wasn't the shotgun wedding it sounds like, honest! DH just realised how much easier it would be if he was DH rather than DP when DS was born.

We don't actually celebrate that anniversary, although my Mum tends to send us a card. I see our 'first date' as our real one which was 4 May 1987, 2 days before my birthday as DH was my 16th birthday pressie from my BF at the time......

30th July 1994 - it was the first Saturday of the school holidays (I was a teacher then).

27th June 1998 - it had to fit in between a court hearing, where dh was fighting to get access to his daughter, which he won and the first visit with his daughter - it was the only Saturday available between those dates

I got married on 15th aug 03 but my parents got married on april fools day,[26 years ago..Now I can see why...

Hi ebbie, my parents also got married on April fools day but in 1971. DH parents were also married on April fools day in 1966 (I think)
