What date did you get married?

Just wondered when people got married and if there was any particular reason for choosing a certain date.

We got married on the 17th February. Nothing to do with it being near Valentines day. I get very hot and sweaty in the summer and didn't want a shiny face and wet armpits on my big day
Also its a bit of a miserable time of year as everyones getting fed up with the winter. Thought it would give everyone something to look forward to. Also we knew it would be cold so people didn't have to worry about what to wear (British summers are so unpredictable!)

I sound like I'm trying to justify my reasons for choosng February!

Wonder what is the most popular month?

Well Aero I must have got married on your birthday too because we got married on 16 May 1998. I wanted April/May/June time of year and that was the only Saturday we could get the reception venue - probably because it was cup final day....

Whimsy, I am your marriage twin!
Uncannily for similar reasons, though we have given up buying prezzies/cards!

7 September, 1996. We had to make sure it was a weekend when dh had a contact visit from his children, otherwise they would have missed the wedding. Not a very romantic reason, but it was a beautiful, sunny day and we still say that we enjoyed it so much we'd like to do it again some time... We had a wonderful holiday in Cornwall with his kids, my parents and his parents (over from Australia) just beforehand. My parents and his had never met before and they all enjoyed swapping stories, especially their memories of the War. His mother and my father have since died, so the whole episode is a very special memory for all of us.

V jealous of all the autumn weddings. I was desperate to get married in September (1995) but everyone freaked out when we announced it because it only gave us a couple of months to get it organised. Gave in to the pressure and ended up getting married April 20th (1996) and it wee'd it down all day long. Wish I'd put my foot down and stuck to the original plan - I love autumn weddings.

22 April - Easter Saturday in 2000. Our Birthdays are 10 and 12 April - add them together and what have you got - but we only realised that later.

14th jan, mil was visiting from nz so organised everthing in 6 weeks, had snowed a few days previously and road to remote venue blocked until day of wedding. clear blue skies in photos, looks like hot summers day but was freezing

woodstock · 25/09/2004 04:28

Cinco de Mayo! I liked it because it was the closest Saturday to Beltane that year and it was a fun date that would be almost impossible for dh to forget (not that he would ever do that ). Since it was a second marriage for us both we made it more of a party and had a theme "Tropical Decadence". All of the guests dressed appropriately - women in brightly colored/patterned dresses, men in Hawaiian shirts, light jackets, panama hats. It was a blast!

Oh, and we also had a frozen drink machine where guests could get a pina coloda with a little umbrella in it.

clucker · 25/09/2004 06:11

i'm the fourth of july 03 too, happened to be convenient it was a rush job our wedding - unaware posh and becks' date

louee · 25/09/2004 09:12

We got married on July 27th 2002 we chose it cos its 2 days after Dh's Birthday and it will help him remeber our Anniversary (yep it worked) by the way that was the hottest day of the year.Everyone was sweating me with my corset and fitted dress and Dh and others with their top hats and tails,It was the best day ever though!!!!

AuntyQuated · 25/09/2004 09:13

2oth August 1994...share our anniversary with Jack and Vera Duckworth

kid · 25/09/2004 09:14

24th June 1998. We wanted to get married in May but as we were going to Dominican Republic, the only dates available were April or June so we went with June (beginning of hurricane season!)
No hurricanes while we were there though.

emmatmg · 25/09/2004 09:25

6th february 1999.

Was going to be 17th but my witch of a MIL was on holiday then and as we didn't annouce it until 2 weeks beofre the event she couldn't change it.

I SOOOOOO wish I hadn't bothered though as the one thing I regret was not having my bruv and sis(and there families) there because of her. DH would of had 4 people whereas I would of had about 12 people and I didn't want her to feel over whelmed my family. If we'd kept the date as the 17th my day would have been perfect.

I absolutley cannot stand the woman (to put it very mildly) and this really upsets me. I gave up so much of MY day for HER and she is a just spitful, evil, selfcentred, ungrateful, worthless bitch.

Arrggghhhhh, I really could scream when I think about it.

BITCH BITCH BITCH BITCH BITCH BITCH

Sautrday 26th July 2003

We did it so that we'd have half a chance of decent weather for the photos and also because we wanted to do it before DD's 1st birthday in early August. Our DD 'hosted' the event, ie her name was on the invitations in place of my parents. Our 2 boys (my step-sons) gave me away, along with my Mum. It was lovely.

SoupDragon · 25/09/2004 09:33

Um... we chose the date that the church, the reception venue and the car were all available

jnbsmum · 25/09/2004 10:01

We chose the 8th jan 00. We could have had new years day but i didn't want that. We chose that day for a sad reason. My dad had terminal cancer and he wanted to see me married and give me away. We planned and booked a whole full white wedding in 8 weeks. It was the most perfect day. The following week my dad started his treatment and went on a downward spiral from then. I'm really thankfull we did it when we did.
Was also told on the day that it's elvis's birthday but thats not why we chose it
