mummyeyem- sorry i was agreeing with what you had put, must have mistyped! was prob half asleep when typing!

Tinkerbel5 · 20/08/2007 10:22

cledjach have you made a decision yet ?

Tinkerbel5 · 20/08/2007 10:51

cant see any agency snobbery on here, on here is advice to apply to low start up fee agencies before they turn to agencies with hight fees that can run into the hundreds, a few peeps on here do have experience of being with different agencies before they have made a move to find one that worked for them, no-one wants to see anyone have to fork out a load of money when they dont need too by searching around and doing their homework first, there are scams out there unfortunately and no-one wants to see anyone fall in that trap.

onehackedoffmuma · 20/08/2007 11:31

I wish people would read my posts correctly tbh.

What I said was - I PERSONALLY wouldn't be happy handing over vast sums of money for my child to be on the books of an agency when there is no guarantee of him getting work.

And - I also maintain that I would stick to applying to KL, UA, BB and MOT. It's a personal choice - I'm not vehemently telling anyone who they should or shouldn't apply to - at the end of the day it's your own decision. Please don't misconstrue what I am saying as snobbery - when in fact it's my own personal choice/opinion.

Hi all
Im back!! Had a lovely week away, now back to routine and all my dc! Have read the thread so Im up todate and lookin n forward to chattin about all our future jobs!

emmielou80 · 21/08/2007 13:13

Hi All

I am new to mumsnet. I am Emma - mum to 17 week old Maisie and live in Hertford. We are signed up with Babyshak (part of Bizzykidz) and have our first job booked in at beg of september.

This is my first experience of baby/child modelling so I am no expert, but they are very friendly and approachable and do keep you upto date on what is going on.

It has been really helpful reading through all your advice and experiences so I can take them on board for the future as BS is not a sole agency and I may consider applying to others when she is a bit older and active

x

immykins · 21/08/2007 13:59

Thanks MUM007 for advice about BK - thought they looked good. Will let you know how it goes.

goingfor3 · 21/08/2007 14:12

Before deciding on an agency ask how many kids are on the books, bb, kl, ua only have about 300. Many though not all of the agencies that charge upfront have many more children on the books and the fees they are are a way of making money. At castings I tend to see kids from a wider range of angencies than I see at jobs where we mostly see kids from the agencies mentioned above as they have very good reputations within the industry for picking the top kids.

MUM007 · 21/08/2007 15:05

immykins- Good luck with BK. As i said before my experiences with them have only been positive xx

totallyfloaty35 · 21/08/2007 17:58

my 12yr old dd is with bk,we have had no calls so far for work or castings, but they are very quick with updates and i know others who have had work with them. The four big agencies (as they are refered to on here)have no or very low start up costs which is one of the reasons they are recommended so much,£120 one off fee is not bad,but quite hard for some people to afford at all,its much easier to join an agent with no fees.

totallyfloaty35 · 21/08/2007 17:59

BK also have about 800 kids on the books and seem to do more tv work.

wigglesmum · 22/08/2007 00:17

Hi there
you might remember me from earlier on in the thread wondering whether I'd made the right decision joing SW for my DS in June.
Well we are completely new to this modelling game and SW rang me today about an availability check.
Well the girl who rang was a bit of a muppet and first said she was calling for a casting then it changed to availability check- for next Tuesday 28th.Then she cut herself off and when I rang back she said she'd call if it happened and hung up.
I don't know what job it could be for? Anyone else been asked for 28th- my DS is 11 months. If you get asked you availability what is the likelyhood of going to the casting? Does it mean a client is interested or is it just the agency seeing who they could put forward?
Or (me with my cynical hat on) could it just be Scallywags trying to make out DS could get work, so we don't feel conned and look elsewhere!

mummyeme · 22/08/2007 08:18

Hi wigglesmum,
On the website SW they were looking for some new staff, so perhaps she isn't very sure of herself yet. SW have got a really good reputation and I've seen their kids at castings so I wouldn't worry about it. But definitely ring them again today and find out what it's for.
Availibility check would be for a job and I think you just have to wait and see if you hear back, but it's most likely that a client has expressed an interest in your ds. They are calling to make sure he is around for that day should he get the job. Fingers crossed.

Sorry if I offeneded anyone , that really wasn't my intention. Of course I'd go for the agencies with lower fees first (crazy not to), I was purely meaning that if you don't get an offer from them it doesn't mean that your chances will be any less if you go with a reputable agent who does have fees. We had castings and jobs alongside and without kids from these agencies being present. Sorry if I got miscontrued, my intention was never to upset anyone.
Good luck to all this week for castings and jobs!

OP posts:
goingfor3 · 22/08/2007 08:22

Sometimes they can check availibilty for the date of a job and then when they have the list of children available they will choose some children for the casting, this has hapeened to dd a couple of times but usually it's a job without having to do a casting.

julie4travel · 22/08/2007 08:35

wigglesmum- hopefully its an availability check as that may mean a job no casting, we haver had a few of them some which come off some which dont

sw had a boy at a casting we went to the other week

dreadlocks · 22/08/2007 10:13

Hi Wigglesmum,
I don't think SW are trying to con you, they are just to busy to phone for anything other than a genuine enquiry.
To be honest if you joined in June and have had a call already that is not bad going, hopefully it will come to a straight job. They do get jobs,we have had a busy year and had a casting/job about every three weeks and at the castings jobs there are always planty of SW children and those from other agencies so they do send out children on a regular basis. I know it would be better not to have to pay out such high fees up front but if you get a commercial your child will get a four figure fee so it is easily covered.
Let us know if you get a call confirming a job.
All the best.

3littlepigs · 22/08/2007 10:45

wigglesmum - could have been a check for NEXT casting! They seem to check who is available and then choose who they want to see. Fingers crossed!

Onthebeach · 22/08/2007 15:51

Hi, has anyone on her had much experience of bubblegum model agency, or seen there kids at castings? I am thinking of applying to them for my ds but just wanted to check them out first.

julie4travel · 22/08/2007 15:57

onthebeach - further down the thread read up as it has been discussed with bg previoulsy

3littlepigs · 22/08/2007 15:59

onthebeach - not had any personal experience of them but have met their kids at castings. Think they charge a small joining fee and then extra on top if you want to go on the website etc, which is optional as with most of the agencies!!

dellgirl13 · 22/08/2007 20:43

hi was talking earlier about allsorts has anyone heard or seen any kids from here as i have an appointment next week with them. is it worth going?

marymay · 22/08/2007 22:27

hi dellgirl.i have never seen any kids from allsorts at any casting or jobs my two have been to.others may have.have you tried any other agencies?

julie4travel · 23/08/2007 08:15

dellgell13- allsorts were on the casting sheet the other week that we went to yet adults and children were on the sheet so i am not sure if it was for a kid or adult (thats if they do adults?) apart from that i have never seen them i am afraid

goingfor3 · 23/08/2007 09:27

dellgirl13 - My dd had an interview with allsorts and I didn't feel positive about them. We decided not to go with them and didn't sign a contract or pay yet about 6 months after the interview they called with a casting, I was really cross that they had kept her details and they promised to remove her from the books and the same thing happened a few weeks after that and I got even more annoyed and we haven't heard from them since. If we had gone with them dd would have had some castings so they do get work but it's more tv than photographic.

dancerdeb · 23/08/2007 11:05

jule4travel, did you find out what the debenhams shoot was for that your ds did, I left you a message what our shoot was for a couple of weeks ago?
goingfor3 did you get the magazine shoots? hope so!
mummyeme and rubystar hope all is well on the bk front! talking of which, just received some cheques from them for past jobs for my two ds's, I had totally forgotten about them as well, so it was a nice surprise
