We've had the testicles thread - I'm concerned about what to call my daughters fanjon (if it is a girl).

Vagina - too clincal.
Every thing else: Too crude.

It used to be a 'hing' when I was a girl but I don't like that.

We call it a fanny. Am amazed at absence of fannies on this thread. Also we have willies. And boobs.
Are we just appallingly unimaginative? Don't think I could say flower without laughing.

Lolly68 · 11/05/2007 14:49

foo foo or minky.

Londonmamma · 11/05/2007 14:59

Oh, I was liking lulu.

I used to call mine a 'binky' - no idea why

My boys started saying 'pachina' instead of vagina and I thought it sounded nice so didn't correct them..

Franny - you are, of course, absolutely right and logical in all you say but there is something sweet about the childhood names for bits i.m.o. I have a doctor friend who's ALWAYS called her son's penis a penis and it just sounded WRONG when he was a toddler!!

daisybump · 11/05/2007 15:01

Its all winkle in our house whether male or female.....can't use willie as BIL is called Willie

when I was little it was refrred to as your wee wee cos that's where the wee wee came from

We have told DS the proper names, but he still uses winkle.

MIL uses 'tail' which I just think is so wrong...don't ask me why, but it gives me the creeps

PG now with DD.....this has been very interesting

NotanOtter · 11/05/2007 15:04

breasts- busts/ Knock-knocks- plumpies
for dp - dirty pillows

Bits - Muffy

for dp - nasty words unrepeatable on here

Flumpybumpy · 11/05/2007 15:08

In our house they are called 'girlies' and 'boy bits'.

What about vag?

lucyellensmum · 11/05/2007 15:15

lolly - i thought i was the only one to use Minky, we used that for DD1, dd2 still too young but i think we are tending towards mini.

I don't think there is any harm with being anatomical and calling it a vulva, it only makes us adults squirm i guess but then do you have to go the whole way and call your bottom your anus and buttocks - ewwww

LittleSarah · 11/05/2007 15:16

I have been experimenting with vulva but can't quite get into it tbh.

Hate all the cutesy names so may have to fall back on fanny. Or the incorrect vagina.

MrsBadger · 11/05/2007 15:20

oh I am sorry littlesarah but that has made me rofl:

"I have been experimenting with vulva but can't quite get into it tbh. "

Lolly68 · 11/05/2007 15:23

vulva seems to text book - you got to have fun words for private bits!

treacletart · 11/05/2007 15:53

We shall be using the word fanjo in our house.. Mumsnet has somehow managed to instill it in my head as the correct word! I like its not too cutesyness and that even if you'd never heard it used before, I think you'd know instantly what it meant.

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 16:02

Oooh, I was going to start a thread like this because my DD has started potty-training and I was wondering...

I have been calling it a front bottom because that's what I called it as a child.
And breasts are boobies (DD is always saying "I want big boobies like you Mummy"!)

Some friends of mine encouraged their DCs to call it a flower/fairy and it got confusing as they got older..

Am liking fanjo though!!

mrsmalumbas · 11/05/2007 16:04

That comment about boobies made me smile. When my neice was 5 (she is now 13) she told her Mum that when she grew up she wanted boobies like me - "boobies that fill the room!". That is still a family joke.

Genidef · 11/05/2007 16:07

Down below: the Huffy
Boobs: Boobies

Kneehighinnappies · 11/05/2007 16:07

I'm so sorry to say this but as I was reading through i got to the top and read "butterflywings" and thought yeah that sounds like a cute way to describe it

Sorry butterflywings!!!!

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 16:08

Boobies that fill the room! ROFL

(My DD is nearly 3yo, btw)

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 16:09

Thanks Kneehighinnappies

Lucky that's not my RL name, then really!

gingersj · 11/05/2007 16:10

I have laughed out loud at least 3 times reading this thread....

For boys, we have willy and bottom or pooper. DS tells me he has a 'tickly willy' when he has a stiffy - or even better a 'ginormous willy' (note to self, must correct that before he grows up to be a man proclaiming to all...)

for girls, we have boobies, breasts, bottom or pooper, minky (which I personally hate), jina is cool and I might start using it.

Kneehighinnappies · 11/05/2007 16:13

It's been a long day butterflywings

I am in the "boobies" "willy" and "fanny" camp

even though we do slip up on bum and "arse" get's used a bit to much

thelady · 11/05/2007 16:47

Hmm. We had 'wee place' 'poo place' and 'baby place' - bottom was what you sat on!

General term for the area covered by underwear was 'tailfeathers' as in 'don't forget to wash your tailfeathers'....

Lauriefairycake · 11/05/2007 16:55

'The hole part of you is the vagina, the bit you rub that feels nice is your clitoris, boys have them too but yours is inside and theirs is outside and theirs is called a penis'

Breasts.

Testicles.

I do NOT do cutesy names, mainly because using them can show you are uncomfortable with your children's sexuality and that's not what I want.

And most importantly for me is that people often don't name the clitoris - which is the source of pleasure -really want to get away from 'boys have willies to rub and you have a gap'. I want to name it when she plays with it and equate it with the penis so that when she grows up there will be less 'why has he got one and I haven't'

I want to be able to say - ' he might have a penis but you've got something just as good - you just can;t see as much of it'

rowan1971 · 11/05/2007 16:57

Hoorah for Laurie

Troutpout · 11/05/2007 17:12
