We've had the testicles thread - I'm concerned about what to call my daughters fanjon (if it is a girl).

Vagina - too clincal.
Every thing else: Too crude.

It used to be a 'hing' when I was a girl but I don't like that.

We have 'ginas in our house (as in jyner, not jeena). I know technically that the vulva is a different animal to the vagina, but it will do for now - when they are older I will teach them the names for all the separate parts. I have already told my older DD that there is a special hole for babies to come out of and a special hole to wee out of - that is probably enough for now.

I had a front bottom as a child and as an adult I remember being sooo embarassed at having to say "vagina" to the doctor. I teach childbirth education now and am quite comfortable saying vagina, clitoris, anus, whatever, to anyone although I did have to practise in front of the mirror to begin with! I'd hate my girls to have this level of embarassment about their bodies and think they should know the correct names for things.

hmmmm....

I'll have to think about this one....

nailpolish · 11/05/2007 13:26

i dont like breasts either
makes me feel like my mother
SHE ahs breasts
lol

Diplidophus · 11/05/2007 13:27

So far I like:

nooney (never heard before)
Flower (but appreciate the confusions issue)
Flossie (never heard before)
A friend of mine ahs gone for 'tuppence' which I quite like.

DP always refers to it as my 'hairy mary' so thinks we should go with 'mary'

Don't like (IMHO) front bottom, vagin, vulva (nothing wrong with giving the words, but too clinical for everyday).

Why isn't there the equivalent of winky/willy

MrsM do you not think that if you use the correct words casually and without shame from the beginning, then they are far more likely to feel confident using them as they grow up?

A friend of mine had a dinky diner.

I think that's quite cute.

PinkTulips · 11/05/2007 13:28

yes but i don't use vulva to describe myself either

i say jaw, not mandible.
i say thigh, not femur
i say lower back, not sacriatic area
i say front bum (or something else if i'm talking to dp about mine ) not vulva

"front bum" is just bonkers though

what about "side nose" for ear?

mrsmalumbas · 11/05/2007 13:31

Yes I do - I guess it just seems easier to have one name that encompasses everything rather than name all the separate bits, at least at this stage. I guess we could have plumped for vulva but somehow or other we settled on vagina. My DD does know that the "proper" word is vagina.

rowan1971 · 11/05/2007 13:31

The reason there's no female equivalent for 'willy' is because people attribute disgust and/or shame to any word given to the female genitals. The only way to combat this, IMO, is to use the proper anatomical terms, as they are the only ones that don't have jokey/porno associations.

Diplidophus · 11/05/2007 13:32

DS1 calls mine (and his) 'boobies'

He's rather obsessed at the moment. Proabbly because I'm haevily prgnant. He lifts up my top and points to my tummy 'baby'. He then keeps lifting, points ' boobies'

Not so good in the middle of Sainsbury's...

Wotzsaname · 11/05/2007 13:33

we have front bottoms and back bottoms too!
I don't like 'tits' so we say 'boobs'.

mumto3girls · 11/05/2007 13:34

i like minny....always worked for mine

iwouldn't expect a childto call his/her bum a posterior or anus...so wouldn't use vulva til older either..

tarantula · 11/05/2007 13:34

Its vulva in our house.

Had a big talk with dp about this as he didnt like her to call it vulva. He didnt actually think she needed to call it anything!!!!!

nailpolish · 11/05/2007 13:35

my dd2 (2yrs old) told me she had a "crumb in her flower"
i said "no darling thats your clitoris"
now her favourite word

FeelingaBitLessOldnGrey · 11/05/2007 13:37

girlie bits, boobs, bottom/bum. For now. When she is older we shall see what evolves!

tombley · 11/05/2007 13:38

DD calls it her lulu. The name wasn't popular when we started that but since then I have heard of babies being called Lulu so....
Also hoping Lulu the singer retires quietly in the near future.

Hmm - Why did we call it a lulu....??

Anna8888 · 11/05/2007 13:38

Bottom.

My daughter calls breasts "snacks"...

YumMumFatBum · 11/05/2007 13:42

In our house its a Foof or Flange

pinkspottywellies · 11/05/2007 13:58

DH started calling it a pom pom! DD is only 6 months tho so don't know what we'll teach her when she's older.

themaskedposter · 11/05/2007 14:09

dd calls it her 'minny-moo'

boys therefore have a 'willy-woo'

quite sweet imo - and will explain more when needed etc

lulumama · 11/05/2007 14:12

NOT A LULU !!

fanjo or foof in this house
