Yesterday I went out with DSs and a friend and her DS we had a lovely day, fed the swans, played mini golf, had a nice lunch then stopped off at the play park.
Boys playing nicely, when in come 2 Vicki Pollard look alikes and their offspring.
Cha as they come, Kids have matted hair and are snotty and the mothers have greasy hair pulled in to pony tails and ad skin and look like if they could spell the word diet they would die of shock.
So the kids start to play and the mums sit eating Mc'Donalds meals and moaning that it was not as nice as the one they had yesterday and telling one of the kids to F off for asking for a chip.

Anyway one of the girls pushes over friends DS who is 3 and my DS2 tells her that she must not do that as its not nice.
So fat mum one turns to fat mum 2 and says if he has a go at her again i'll smack him one so I give her my best you really think so you dirty ho look and she gets back to stuffing her fat face with minced feet.

About 10 minuets later we are getting ready to leave and DS2 falls over and starts to cry, comes running to me with scuffed up hands and knees, so fat mum 2 turns round and says for fuck sake shut up. so brushing down DS2 i say to him come on DS2 lets leave Vicki pollard to it (as she sits rolling her own fag) (could they get any more pikey) so she looks at me and I smle sweetly and walk off.
DS1 said mummy that woman was very rude, what if she had hit DS2 would you have hit her?
And you know what I would have done n a heartbeat. But like all weebles i think she would have wobbled but not fell down.

I hate people like that.
RANT OVER, nothing to see here go about your business.

tbh most people i know use pikey to describe a chav, scally or any such like group of people. It is not meat in a derogoratory way towards travellers as i was not aware of the connection. I confess to being vey ignorant of this fact and I am sure there are many other poeple who think chav=pikey=scally.

HoppyDaddy · 05/04/2007 12:51

Kimi, if you met a person you didn't like, would you refer to them as a nasty black person, or a nasty white person? No, you'd refer to them as a nasty person.

I think you'd do well to back away from the thread now and think about why so many people are pissed off with your choice of words.

misdee · 05/04/2007 12:53

.....time we voted the pikeys off the island!

[misdee os roma descent starts to pack her bags and leaves]

Cashncarry · 05/04/2007 12:54

No one's pulling you apart Kimi but you did judge an entire group of people by calling them pikeys. I appreciate you might not have understood the connotations of what you were saying when you typed your OP but you do understand them now.

I'm sure you'd be upset if someone called your son a derogatory name or even implied that all people within that category were smelly, unwashed etc. MN is here to represent all views so those of us who have faced prejudice are quick to pick others up on it. It's a bonus not something to scathe.

Maybe see this as productive - hopefully now that you know these terms are offensive, you won't use them again? [hopeful emoticon]

hercules1 · 05/04/2007 12:54

I dont know anybody apart from teenagers who think it's okay to use the term pikey or chave.

foxinsocks · 05/04/2007 12:54

yes, but kimi, you could have said 'crikey, I'm sorry I used terms that are offensive, I didn't mean that but weren't these women horrible to my child' in which case it people would have been understandable.

It was the whole 'attack attack' mentality of her responses.

fwiw, they do sound like they behaved in a vile manner and I doubt anyone would dispute that.

BeckleSpeckledEgg · 05/04/2007 12:55

Kimi - in response to your OP, I think it is only natural to want to protect your child and although I don't think hitting is right, I think if someone hit my child it would be my first instinct also.
Wannabe - you put it just how I wanted to
I am sure Kimi did not mean offense, we all use language without thinking when we are and anyone speaking to my child that way would have me fuming!

BeckleSpeckledEgg · 05/04/2007 12:57

oh, and since when has chav been offensive? Anyone I know who is a little bit 'chavvy' thinks its funny! (burberry, big gold jewellery etc) There are pop stars who cultivate the look deliberatley!
I had no idea it was offensive

kimiTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2007 13:00

Well I could back away from the thread HD.
I could take my kids to the park, get a Mc'Donalds on the way (wish I had not had that shower now) shout and swear at my kids, I tell you what just for real fun could that the piss out of DS1 and he's SN
When we get to the park I will let my kids pick on other children then if anyone dare complain I will hit them. I could take up smoking too for the day, let the kids breath in all that filth. I wont give them any lunch either as I am on a budget so can only get me a takeout.

Or I could unload the dish washer, do the ironing and sort out what to ware as I'm going for a meal tonight at some jazz place. (first option looking good at this point, I hate jazz)

kimi, I have already agreed with the points you made about the behaviour of the other parents. I would have been fuming too.

If you continue to justify the language you used, instead of seeing how it has offended people, then you can't expect to get much sympathy on here, can you?

(blimey that was a lot of commas!)

kimiTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2007 13:04

Kimi also writes 1000 times I must not use the term chav or pikey again.

Oh I feel so much better now, all that anger is just draining away.

I love a good rant, gets it all out of the system.

OP posts:
booge · 05/04/2007 13:08

I didn't think piket was a racist term as it is derived from turnpike and was used to refer to any itinerent person.

kimiTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2007 13:08

And thank you wannabe, that was really good.
Yours was better, I wish I had inner calm.
I guess I just rant then feel better.
I was good yesterday when the shop would not sell me a goldfish though! Buts thats another thread.

OP posts:
booge · 05/04/2007 13:08

pikey even.

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 13:09

no leave it at piket and then we can get back on to pikelets and crumpet

HoppyDaddy · 05/04/2007 13:09

kimi, your refusal to acknowledge your obvious prejudices really pisses me off.

I'm leaving this thread before I say something you regret.

booge · 05/04/2007 13:10

ohh I do like a nice crumpet

kimiTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2007 13:18

Do we have a waving emotiocon?

OP posts:
willow2 · 05/04/2007 15:24

Fwiw, what generic name would everyone suggest as suitable for people like this? Scum? Because, let's face it, we all know exactly the type of person that kimi is referring to. As for Kimi's DS1's question, if a stranger assaulted my child I would quite probably react physically too. It's that fight or flee thing - and I think I'd use force to protect my child, although pressing charges would probably be a far better response. What would everyone else do - simply tell them that you thought their behaviour unacceptable? I can't see that having much effect tbh.

Cashncarry · 05/04/2007 15:46

I would suggest not calling people names full stop.

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 15:50

generic name...

not our kind of people?

bossykate · 05/04/2007 15:57

ahem is everyone asleep at mnet hq? are you refusing to delete racist postings?

melminx · 05/04/2007 15:59

i called someone on here a pikey the other day and i got shot down and rightly so i was in a vile mood and looking to take my pain out on someone else. i cant remember who i called it to but if they read this i am truely truely sorry i really am. Pikey is a distgusting word and it is hurtful to be called one sorry to hijack

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 16:00

I was suggesting a reference for the person who asked for a generic name for people she didn't like rather than endorsing any views on the thread btw!
