I've met Willie Carson when he came to the firm of sols I was working at and used to know a Blues player who bought me a bottle of champagne when I passed my driving test.... no-one interesting though...

Ooooh, I met Mary Archer at the Science Museum when I used to work there. She has the tiniest, weeniest waist I've ever seen and was indeed 'fragrant'.

OldieMum · 01/06/2004 21:36

Prince Charles, when our school visited Buckingham Palace - it did nothing to alter my already low estimation of him; not sure whether being at a garden party held at Buckingham Palace to honour Nelson Mandela counts as meeting him. I don't care about meeting Prince Charles. I'm proud to have breathed the same air as Mandela.

OldieMum · 01/06/2004 21:38

I've also been to a garden party with the fragrant Mary. She was snooty to a friend of mine.

womba1 · 01/06/2004 21:38

moomin.....just to make you feel better....he was drunk...i was steaming....but he was still damn good....'

Tinker · 01/06/2004 21:38

LOL at the Peter Reid story. When he dyed his hair brown didn't he say he was "growing out the grey"

Furball · 01/06/2004 21:48

NomDePlume - He was sat down for most of the time. But when he got up to leave, I was shocked he was not the midget Jeremy Clarkson's height makes him out to be. I couldn't be as exact as you want but he was taller than his wife. Not that that matters or helps you.

jampot · 01/06/2004 22:07

Have also passed in Great Western Arcade Roger Cook of The Cook Report - he is enormous!

Aha (80's norwegian pop group) used to live in my old flat. They left pervy polaroids of themselves behind but they weren't famous yet so I binned them, the fool!
Met Catherine Zeta Jones when she was filming Darling Buds and she was really, really nice.
Mybrother sold a sofa to Sean Bean and DIDn'T TELL ME till it was too late to stow away in the delivery van and beg to be his slave.
My mate chatted to Brian May at a party because she thought he was a saddo with bad hair and no-one else was talking to him- but everyone else actually knew who he was and didn't dare approach him.

Ghosty · 01/06/2004 22:51

George Best ... in a pub funnily enough
Ian MacShane (LoveJoy)
Woody ... the drummer from Madness ... a few times - he is a friend of a friend so I managed to get backstage passes to the Madness comeback concert in Finsbury Park where I also met the rest of the band and Ian Dury ...
That's it ...

treacletart · 01/06/2004 22:52

oooh what a great thread! I bore people crazy with my claim to fame stories, what a great excuse to get them all down! well.. over the past 20 years i have:
sold jewelery to dawn french, lorraine chase, linda lusardi and alvin stardust
sold shoes to maggie smith, gryf rhys jones, judy dench
sold sunglasses to Joe Strummer, Chris Ewbank and Jonathan Ross (who didnt snog me)
sold beer to Hugu Speer (who did!)
bumped (literally) into Zoe ball twice - many many years after my mate slept with Norman Cook
met Jay Kay (my brother used to be in his band - no seriously!) Bamber Gascoigne (through work) Jeremy Paxman (at a wedding, so I have both University Challenge presenters ticked!) Loyd Grossman (work) and .... David Bowie at the Estorick Collection in Islington - just walked into a small room in the gallery and he was in there (with a minder?) I held the door open for him and he thanked me. I'd been let in for free through work, but he had to pay. Hee Hee

Girly · 02/06/2004 08:03

I used to work for passenger services at Heathrow when I was 16 and met loads, my favs are

Terence Trent Darby
Charlton Heston - drove him to his gate in one of those cool cars that whizz round the airport and took him to his seat on the plane, he was lovely and gave me a signed photo which he just happened to have on his person!
Ruby Wax - pushed her in a wheelchair as she had broken her foot
Liz Taylor - pushed her hand luggage in a wheelchair, my best mate had her
Kylie and Jason - whizzed them through the fast lane at passport control
Mega Death - a rock band, what a nightmare!
Loads more, having trouble remembering! That was such a COOL job for a 16 yr old

Ixel · 02/06/2004 08:24

i went on a date with the real life Dad of the girl out of Hollyoaks, the one who had a drug problem a few years ago(in the show) and then left.
Have been caught up to mischief by Bob Monkhouse (NOT with him!). Failed to recognise Ewan McGregor when I spoke to him.Walked into Todd Carty, literally... he wasn't too impressed. Got a photo with Jeremy Beadle when I was 8 1/2 months preg, for the baby book.Everyone kept saying "is thet your Dad? Doesn't he look like Beadle?"!! Eddie Izzard. The whole of the Queen's Guards.Andy Garcia.

Mum2Ela · 02/06/2004 09:07

DH and I went for a posh meal following my graduation (couldn't party, was preggers) and Reese Witherspoon (sp) and her bloke Ryan Phillipe were on the next table (she was v v v skinny).

Noel Gallagher got me and my mates in to the Oasis concert when my dull friends bought the wrong days tickets.

Went to after show party of Shed 7's gig in cardiff and spoke and length to Rick whats-his-name (lead singer). He declined spending the night at mine!!!!

Had dinner at parents house with Graham Henry (if you know who he is).

Oh, and uncles brother is Andy Fairweather Low (who?!!!), y'know, 'Bend me, shape me, anyway you want me . . . . . ' !!!

suzywong · 02/06/2004 09:15

Have declined to come on this thread because I feel a bit of a namedropper already but OMG Treacletart!!!1
David Bowie is my secret boyfriend, he just doesn't have the time to call me, and of all the famous Musicians I have worked withhe would be the one I would turn to jelly at thesight of .... and I once was in the bidding to run the cafe at the Estorick Gallery too, OMG am a bit giddy now - what year was it?

suzywong · 02/06/2004 09:18

BettyBloo,
I 've got stuck with Brian May too, he does drone on rather.
And can I just say it was in the Foo Fighter's dressing room at Brixton Academy and Tyler the drummer and Chad from the Red Hot Chili Peppers were skinning up on the couch.

NomDePlume · 02/06/2004 09:23

Forgot to mention Charlie Brooks (aka Janine in Eastenders), she's my step-sisters best friend.

NomDePlume · 02/06/2004 09:25

Ooooooooh also forgot to mention that I met all of Take That at the height of their fame. They were having tea at my Aunties house ( Howard was going out with my cousin). Can't beleive I forgot that one !!!!!!!!!!

NomDePlume · 02/06/2004 09:27
