Sad one this, I met Viscount Tonypandy (the ex-ex speaker of the House of Commons) when I was in collage. When he asked my name I gave it and he asked if I was **b's daughter....he knew my Dad!

hmb · 01/06/2004 19:35

Rather have snogged J Ross tho!!!!!

Lisa78 · 01/06/2004 19:36

Far too discreet to discuss this
But my mum ran down Arthur Scargill during the miners strike - he was leading the picket line outside St James' hospital, where she worked - not a patient woman, my mother
Still makes me laugh thinking about it, the way she came home casually mentioning that she had to run over Arthur Scargill to get out of the car park and come home

Salman Rushdie. When he was under the fatwa and in hiding.

starry · 01/06/2004 19:39

Princess Diana and Prince Charles when they came to my hometown shortly after getting married -gave a posey of flowers to her

Dr David Owen on a regular basis

Liam and Noel when my flatmate was dating their producer many moons ago

Bob Geldof when I was on The Word (oh the shame )

Jimmy Somerville, Boy George, Julian Clary and many others whom I can't remember when I worked for a production company making a documentary on the Gay and Lesbian march thing one year at Brockwell Park in the 1993/4(?)

Oh and my mum chats to Martin CLunes over a spiced currant bun every now and then

Frenchgirl · 01/06/2004 19:46

Cherie Blair when I was at law school, (in 97 I think?) (much prettier in real life, less Cruella de Ville like), inspiring speech about becoming a lawyer...(I know, I know,...). I gave her a letter to Tony about Labour MEP dh had been working for, telling all about corruption at MEP level, probably went straight in the bin!). Also saw some other French celebs in Paris and Madrid (tennis player Yannick Noah, actor called Jacques Perrin....)

Sat next to Henry Cooper in a beer garden in Cornwall once. When I say "next to" I mean at the next table.

Used to say hello to Diane Modahl (she was Edwards then) when she lived a few doors down from my M&D in Manchester.

Stood behind Richard Madeley in a queue in an M&S food hall once (was trying to see if he had any bottles of wine secreted about his person).

Stood at the bar with Mick Hucknall in the Hacienda once (didn't speak to him, but still...)

Have actually truly met Lemn Sissay - to talk to - and Smug Roberts and Henry Normal: spent a night drinking with them in Manchester.

And obviously I have slept with David Beckham but then I guess most people have.

Soozi · 01/06/2004 19:53

Oh I almost forgot - met all the current line up of Whitesnake (apart from David Coverdale). This was at a concert last year. In all the years of going to gigs I finally get backstage, into the band's dressing room when I'm married and 5 months pregnant - bu**er! My pal snogged Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden.

Tinker · 01/06/2004 19:53

Oh womba - that's interesting. She's always painted as the more 'colourful' one in their marriage non?

Janh · 01/06/2004 19:54

Failed to sell Robert Wagner some suncream at Heathrow Airport Pharmacy in about 1968. (Didn't have the right kind. He just thought I was thick.)

Went out (briefly) in 1970 with a guy who now plays guitar for Elton John. Met various folkie types at the time too but was generally too pissed to remember who.

The DDs had their photo taken with Ken Barlow and the SilentNight hippo during a by-election in 1990 (I think).

er - that's it.

Boring or what!

(Vicarious one - in 1968 I had a penfriend who lived on Kintyre and went to school in Campbeltown and she bumped into Paul McCartney there.)

Tinker · 01/06/2004 19:54

Aah, I have a friend who has slept with David Coverdale. Can I be famous by association?

womba1 · 01/06/2004 19:57

Tinker, that's the way she seems to be portrayed, but i don't think either of them are whiter than white.
They appear blissfully happy and i'm sure they are, but i don't think they have a 'conventional' marriage!
Don't quote me on that though...

wilbur · 01/06/2004 19:58

I used to work for James Coburn.

Also met Nick Cotton at a party. He was very nice.

Friennd met Robbie Williams - in his Take hat days. But didn't know who he was! So just had a beer with him in his mate's sudent digs!!! My little sister was a huge fan at the time and was devasted that he hadn't got his autograph.

Toots · 01/06/2004 20:03

Tinker · 01/06/2004 20:06

suzywong · 01/06/2004 20:08

Tinker · 01/06/2004 20:08

I asked Alan Hansen for change once for a parking ticket machine.

Mermaid2 · 01/06/2004 20:09

Axel Rose from Guns and Roses in a shoe shop on the Kings Road in London about 12 years. He was with a massive bouncer and was much smaller than I thought he would be but still had a great pair of legs. He was very pleasant.

Also saw the two guys from Bucks Fizz. Oooh err.

The best was when I worked in London, Robbie Williams was filming a video on a high walk near our offices and we went to have a look and almost appeared in the video. He did give us a big smile and wave.
