Can I delurk (after almost 2 years) and say hello and Happy New Year.

I joined MN in early 2014 and started following Valpollicella's thread "Zombie needs her limbs holding".

I was amazed at how involved I became in a strangers struggles with her health. I was also amazed at the support strangers were giving to each other - this was my introduction to MN.

Over the year I followed Zombies threads and became acquainted with her story. Only a few months ago I found myself praying for Zombie following a serious chest infection which saw her in a serious condition for a while. I logged on several times a day for updates and was delighted when Zombie herself became well enough to resume posting. The fact that an absolute stranger was recovering put a definite spring in my step - strange but true!!

I don't seem to have seen posts from Valipollicellia for a while - is she still around???

At around the time that I started reading about Zombie I also followed threads from a poster called "Biscuits and crumbs" (not her exact name but my trogladite memory is failing me after a bottle of red wine). This lady had leukaemia and, very sadly, passed away in autumn 2014. I still think of her and the young family she left behind. It's truely amazing how the plights of strangers can affect you on the internet.

Anyway, I don't want to drag the evening down, I really just delurked to say hello to everyone and also to say what a fantastic bunch you are.

My finger has been hovering over the "Delete" button for a while as I feel my post may be a bit maudlin but DH has told me to press "enter" as I've only typed the truth so here goes........

Thankyou magi - I could certainly aspire to be like her!!! I absolute love her confidence, composure and control.

Sadly I'm a rather chubby lady in my early 50's who bears no resemblance to the rather marvellous Penelope Keith!!!

Let me introduce myself.
I'm the very proud "owner" of 2 DD's and a DH of 25+ years.

I sometimes struggle to juggle a part time job, whilst caring for an elderly mother who has recently undergone a lobectomy to remove a cancerous growth in her right lung. I also support a 19yr old DD with MH and SH issues and a DH who also suffers from MH issues.

Having said that I'm very content with what I've got and count myself very lucky when I see what others have to endure.

BTW This is absolutely not a pity post - I'm just pleased to be making all of your acquaintances and wanted to introduce myself.

My current project for 2016 is looking into the possibility of the family getting a dog. We've always wanted one but haven't a clue where to start - I'm currently researching breeds and their requirements. Ideally I want a pup who will lay adoringly at my feet and follow my every command - reality tells me that won't be the case!!!

I've not introduced myself properly yet! lin knows my story but here is the short version.

I'm 24, I have 3 dc. DS1 is 7, DD has just turned 2 and DS2 is just about 5 months.
I don't live with DP (long story!) But he proposed on Christmas day. I also have a 13 year old DB who stays over most weekends so you will probably hear a lot about him too.

Nice to meet you DMofC, that is one very unusual food combination

I said yes! Unfortunately our happiness got put on the back burner for a while. DPs brother attempted to kill himself on boxing day. He ended up in a coma and died on the 30th so things are tough at the minute.
