DH has a ritual of always reading the Hogfather at xmas Hogswatch

twirlypoo · 12/03/2015 15:33

Oh! This has really taken me aback, trying not to cry on school run now.

Rip Sad

SoupDragon · 12/03/2015 15:33

Oh... :(

everygalaxy · 12/03/2015 15:34

So sad, DH is very upset he adores him and his books. I shall pick up equal rites again tonight.

BigGlasses · 12/03/2015 15:35

Such sad news. Absolutely love the Discworld books.

CornChips · 12/03/2015 15:35

Oh gosh, I am really terribly sad at this. Just tried to ring DH who will be distraught, but he left his mobile at home.

We will be re-reading all his books I can see.

AdoraBell · 12/03/2015 15:36

Sad his writing saved my sanity at times.

RIP Terry, you genius.

Bowednotbroken · 12/03/2015 15:37

Very sad - like a pp I always bought hardbacks as couldn't wait for the paperback. Big presence gone. RIP

IStopped · 12/03/2015 15:39

How very sad. He was still so young Hmm. He bought a lot of happiness to a lot of people. He was a great writer - clever and funny and he never took himself too seriously.

I love his books and my DC love his books. My favourite book was The Wee Free Men. I read it aloud to my DC when they were little. It is a brilliant book among lots of brilliant books

Quote from
Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men

Miss Tick sniffed. 'You could say this advice is priceless,' she said. 'Are you listening?'
'Yes,' said Tiffany.
'Good. Now ... if you trust in yourself ...'
'Yes?'
'... and believe in your dreams ...'
'Yes?'
'... and follow your star ...' Miss Tick went on.
'Yes?'
'... you'll still get beaten by people who spent THEIR time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy. Goodbye.

I'm utterly devastated Sad I love his books and have loved them a long time. RIP TP may death treat you as kindly as you've always written him Sad Sad Sad

Bogeyface · 12/03/2015 15:42

SO sad :(

GermaineHobnob · 12/03/2015 15:44

Oh what awful, awful news. I love Terry Pratchett's books and we've just introduced our dc to them. The discworld will be a sadder place without him.

RIP Terry. You were bloody awesome.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 12/03/2015 15:45

Thank goodness I'm alone in my office. I'm really upset by this. Those final tweets have absolutely done for me.

AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.

Terry took Death’s arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night.

The End.

Must re-read the books. Small Gods is my favourite, but I love all the ones with the Watch, the Witches, the Librarian, Tiffany....

Thanks for everything, Sir Terry. What a loss to the world. Sad Thanks

GiddyOnZackHunt · 12/03/2015 15:45

It feels like a friend has died. :(

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 12/03/2015 15:45

0x530x610x750x630x79 For our entire adult lives I have bought my brother the new Discworld book for xmas Hogswatch.

Apparently there is one last finished book (BBC news channel have said)

CapnMurica · 12/03/2015 15:46

So sad. I could almost believe it was a hoax but I've seen the BBC statement now.

I want to have a little cry but I'm at work Sad RIP Terry.

MaidOfStars · 12/03/2015 15:46

Very sad news indeed. An amazing writer, a great mind.

Only wizards see Death when they die but I hope he might make an exception here.

weegiemum · 12/03/2015 15:47

Very very sad. The statement said "The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds" and I'd agree wholeheartedly with that.

I loved the Watch books and was delighted by the sensible Miss Susan as a heroine, as it's my name and I'm a teacher!

PuffinsAreFictitious · 12/03/2015 15:48

Fucking embuggrance.

I loved TP, we all did. Am actually in tears, he, his wit and Granny weatherwax got me through dark times.

Death, I'm sure, made a personal visit.

LordJabuJabu · 12/03/2015 15:49

RIP

Massive loss Sad

CultureSucksDownWords · 12/03/2015 15:49

Love love love Pratchett's books, as a child/teenager and still now. So sad that he has lost the fight against Alzheimer's. He spoke so wonderfully about the disease and really did help to raise awareness of it.

BlueKarou · 12/03/2015 15:49

I feel like I've been punched. Am just sitting at my desk trying not to cry. My colleagues wouldn't understand.

Whoever was managing his Twitter (and his daughter's twitter) handled it so perfectly.

I was just putting his books up on my new bookshelves two days ago, checking I had the order right and realising how many I didn't yet own (I read my Mum's copies when I was young, then grew up and started buying my own) and that I would have to fill in all the gaps.

DMCWelshCakes · 12/03/2015 15:51

How unutterably shit.

He will be missed and the world is a much poorer place without him.
