LittleEsmeWeatherwax · 12/03/2015 21:29

Thanks ChiefClerkDrumknott for posting the twitter messages. I've name changed to one of my old favourites.

In your honour, Sir Terry. May your ripples last forever. I shall buy you a pint in another reality.

ThatWasThat · 12/03/2015 21:31

I'm so sad that man is gone from our world #wearinglilac

Wildernessrock · 12/03/2015 21:33

Did he take his own life like he planned? Just heard this and hope he got his wishes.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/03/2015 21:36

The BBC said not.

BruthasTortoise · 12/03/2015 21:44

For the first time in my life I have she tears (actual heaving sobs) for someone I don't know personally. STP's work got me through my teenage years and have been a constant comfort since.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2015 21:59

I think the reports said it was a chest infection.

ouryve · 12/03/2015 22:10

Hah! Tonight's rabbit hole has led me to this article on STP as a philosopher. Got to love the comments, for one :o

For onCe

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 12/03/2015 22:20

Poor Lyn Flowers, poor Rhianna Flowers, poor Rob Flowers.

Always worst for those left behind.

Goodbye and thank you for everything, Sir Pterry Smile

Like Douglas Adams, like Iain Banks, cruelly taken from the world too soon, before his life and works were complete.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2015 22:20

My first 'proper' MN name was GrimmaTheNome, when there was some name-changing in honour of TP when his Alzheimers diagnosis was made public. I was reading one of the Bromeliad trilogy to DD at the time. But then there was a spate of dragons and I couldn't resist this one. (And for reasons I've forgotten I've also got HoraceTheCheese). I feel a bit mean now having bagged more than one.

MavolioBent · 12/03/2015 22:24
Sad

Discworld books are my go to when my anxiety flares up. I can't find the right words..

At least the embuggerance (sp) can no longer get him.

iklboo · 12/03/2015 22:25

I was looking for you on here Errol. When I saw your name I smiled to myself thinking 'There's a Discworld fan' Smile

iklboo · 12/03/2015 22:46

I'm going to read Good Omens again tonight.

EthelHamptonCourt · 12/03/2015 22:47

Terribly sad news today, a lovely tribute from the Discworld Emporium in Wincanton, which Terry used to visit regularly. If anyone is ever this way, take a detour off the A303, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit, I shall be sad but also cheerful each time I walk past it with a evocative memories of his work.

Name change in honour of STP.

Does anyone know what happened to Mr Hong when he tried to open the Three Jolly Luck Takeaway Fish Bar on the site of the old fish god temple in Dagon Street on the night of the full moon?

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/03/2015 23:16

I know it's silly to be this sad about someone you've never met, but I am. Thanks to everyone here for being in the same boat.

I said this in on another thread but I emailed the local flower shop to see if they had any lilac. 'Too early' was their reply. Too early. Sad

MrsEvadneCake · 12/03/2015 23:19

Lilac always used to remind me of my birthday. last year mine was in bloom for lilac day. This year it will be a funny feeling.

GlomOfNit · 12/03/2015 23:20

MrsTP, I was staring out at our lilac bush earlier, willing it into flower (it's not even leafy yet!). Far too early, sadly. I was even toying with the idea of going to the garden centre and buying a spray of fake lilac. And you know, I just bloody well might do so.

Have NC'd in honour. Might keep it a while.

Charlesroi · 12/03/2015 23:21

Ook Sad

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 12/03/2015 23:23

We've got a white lilac that's always in bloom about May time. Looks a picture. Will have to see if I can get a purple one to go with it. That flowerbed could do with a rejig.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 12/03/2015 23:26

I like this one.

Maybe it's a "Noodle Incident" type thing?

Itsthiwooluff · 12/03/2015 23:41

What makes a man, from Wintersmith, ends:

Strength enough to build a home,
Time enough to hold a child,
Love enough to break a heart.

His books contained wit, warmth, bloody good sense and sheer decency, and I loved them for it.

Cooroo · 12/03/2015 23:43

40 odd years ago I was lucky enough to receive a typed manuscript for typesetting. It was a novel called 'The Colour of Magic'. I spent a delightful couple of weeks typing it into my Linotype CRTronic. I enjoyed the book so much I bought friends and family copies so the author would get some exposure. I don't think he needed my help! I met Terry at a signing a few years later and he wrote a special dedication in my copy.

I haven't read any for some years, there is so much to read, but I shall have to catch up a bit. I loved the Luggage.

Goodbye Terry, the only celeb whose death made me shed tears.
