Hi Everyone

I have just joined MN after spending the last hour reading through your discussions!

I have sent pictures to agencies of my son aged 10 months and 4 came back within in a couple of weeks and said yes. I'm a bit concerned as I have gone wth Models Direct and someone on the site suggests to stay away - can anyone offer any advice on what to do?

Little Madam - I am based in Leeds and Catwalk have offered Sam a contract - can you offer any specific advice as we are in same town. I live in Woodlesford.

Look forward to your response - I promise not to respond as CowMad did if you are busy! I imagine you are all watching Anthea!

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 20:47

Pimms you're picnic looks yum!

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 20:49

samsmum what agencies said yes ?

defo stay away from models direct.

I cant offer you advice on any non london agencies, but hopefully someone will come along soo and fill you in.

My daughter is with Bruce & Brown.

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 20:56

2ManyPimms - well done! Your kids are gorgeous.

julie4travel · 07/09/2006 20:59

samsmum - sorry i cant help either as i am east anglia and use london based agencies

have you looked at childmodelling.net to see what agencies profiles are on their?

if you look at www.albamodel.info i think it had some info on models direct being on watchdog or something. it has them as an agent to steer clear of if i remember rightly

pimms - my hubbie wont stop watching dragons den so i cant get on the tele argh!!!!!

dylansluckymum · 07/09/2006 21:03

pimms that was very enjoyable well done winning and your kids are absolute sweethearts! where are you from, your accent is very tough to place??

tavalana · 07/09/2006 21:03

Tinkerbel5 - how old is your daughter?

yackertyyack - ds1 said the job was ok but their nanny said it was a mess. the catalogue should be ready in two weeks and they will send us a copy.

tavalana · 07/09/2006 21:04

2ManyPimms - forgot to ask about your accent, you sound american? sounds a little bit like mine.

SamsMumLou · 07/09/2006 21:07

Julie 4 Travel - thanks for your speedy response. Have just been looking at CM.net - lots of great information thanks. Will have a look at the website for MD. Scared!!!

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 21:12

tav DD is 5

I thought pimms accent at first sounded canadian, then at the end is sounded like soft irish, pimms help us out !

littlemadam · 07/09/2006 21:12

Samsmum, I think a friend of mine went with Catwalk, they have a good reputation in Leeds. I went with a london agency just because the two I saw here both thought DS should cut his hair, and we liked the surfer look. London does mean a commitment, we have an early shoot for disney tomorrow which means getting the 7am train, but generally shoots are arranged in the afternoon, and we have done a few jobs without castings. Having said that DS is 6 and loves the whole train thing, wouldn't do it with DD who is 2!!! You could try Boss in Manchester as well, I think most jobs are out that way anyway. Glad to have another Northerner here!

Have you sent money to Models Direct??

Pimms well done!! Only saw bits as hubs addicted to Dragons den, but will catch one of the repeats so I can see it in full!!

julie4travel · 07/09/2006 21:16

samsmum- if models direct aren't sole rep i would personally get him registered with another agency straight away, you never know their is a slim chance they could come up with something?

i think further down this thread there was 2 agencies named as being more northern based.

good luck in your search, have you had anything from models direct and how long have you been with them

julie4travel · 07/09/2006 21:20

sams mum- there is another site called www.starnow.com which advertises castings. you need to be a member to apply yet you could find a job near to you on their some are paid and some unpaid so read that before you apply. i paid something like £15 for three months membership and my son has got a small part in a film this saturday. i have seen quite a few northern ones on their because sometimes i wish they are nearer so i can apply!

about to log off night everyone

will be off for a few days as got a bet with hubbie that i cant survive the weekend without going on my pc for work or pleasure - how sad are we!!!!so i better not get any holiday enquiries this weekend as will be well frustrated. plus i have lost internet connections on my mobile (some how) so cant use that either!

speak mon

SamsMumLou · 07/09/2006 21:22

Thanks Little Madam

Unfortunately yes I have sent money and just read about them on alphainfo (thanks Julie4Travel for the tip). Gutted but I suppose you learn from mistakes. I'm happy to travel to London as Sam is used to train (mum lives in Bridlington and travel most weeks. Catwalk have said they would like to use my boy (sorry don't understand the whole DD thing yet)and just to send 4 passport pictures (does that sound the norm). They also said they like him because he is very male looking - hope thats a compliment!

I will look at some London agencies then - any recommendations as I feel that I will get the response of 'you live outside London'.

Sorry all London based users - not a dig honest!! (grin)

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 21:25

Julie 3 days without using the pc

have a good weekend

SamsMumLou · 07/09/2006 21:27

Hi Tinkerbel5

Catwalk, Models Direct, Eurokids and Envenio - i decided against latter two as wanted a fair bit of cash

(blush)Feel really embarrassed but I suppose I'll get there with everyone's top tips!!

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 21:28

Samsmum you might still get work from models direct cause Im sure I read on here someone knew someone who has got work through them.

If you go on the childmodelling website I think there is a list of london agencies.

You could start by looking at Bruce and Brown, MOT and Kidslondon first as they dont charge a fee.

SamsMumLou · 07/09/2006 21:29

Obviously not got the hang of the smiley thing either!! Believe it or not I am 30!!

Try again

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 21:32

Samsmum dont feel embarassed.

The other agencies like Elizabeth Smith, Bubblegum, Scallywags and a few others have high fees, but they do provide work.

Sorry I havnt heard of those agencies you have quoted, but other folks might be able to give you some feedback.

Tinkerbel5 · 07/09/2006 21:34

Im off for a cup of coffee and to watch the rest of bad girls, then sopranos on E4, see you later.

Samsmum dont lose heart, it just takes a little while to choose the agency that is right for you and you're child.

ellismummy · 07/09/2006 21:48

samsmumlou how long ago did you pay the money to models direct coz i think there is a period when you can change your mind and get your money back, It may be 14 days im not sure, but try and do it quick!
sorry to disappoint you but I was completly ripped off by them and have heard of so many other people who have been on other internet chat sites. another good site to look on is safemodelling.org.

thorntons · 07/09/2006 21:57

Ellismummy, been told shoot will be on location in Rye .
Littlemadam. Congrats and good luck for Disney shoot tmrrw!
Samsmumlou. I think you have been given lots of great advice re other agencies to consider. Good luck!
