Zombie's journey with breast cancer

The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

Morning.

Yesterday was another mostly sleep day. I think that was mainly because I didn't sleep at all well on Tuesday night. My IBS was on the rampage and I had horrid cramping all night. I think I've now got that under control. I got up around 6.30 yesterday morning and was back in bed by 8.30. Up again at 11.00. In the afternoon I fell asleep in my chair and didn't wake up until nearly 5.30. Unfortunately I was supposed to have met a friend for coffee at 4.30. Thankfully I slept fairly well last night.

mummy, no, I won't have extra treatments to compensate for the reduced dosage. If I tolerate the next cycle (and don't end up in hospital again) they will start increasing it again.

So you will still have 6 cycles ? Glad you are catching up on your sleep. You have to pay for all your partying somehow ! I am guessing that your friend Sally will be with you when your next infusion is due. You have some wonderful friends, who obviously hold you in their hearts. Enjoy the rest of the day

IamtheZombie · 03/07/2014 19:24

Yes, mummy, as far as I know it will still be 6 cycles. Sally won't be able to come this time. Her mum is supposed to have a knee replacement next Friday but there are some issues with her blood pressure. Sally has to take her to various appointments next week.

Back up plan is to get to my niece's house by 9.00 on Wednesday and have her drop me off at the hospital. I'll ring her when I'm ready to leave and then spend the night at her house. I'll be fine to drive the next morning. My friend Becky is arriving on Thursday and will stay with me until Sunday.

Hope you have had a good day Zombie. That's a shame about Sally but of course her mum needs her too! But it seems you have alternative plans so you won't be alone, which is good.

mummylin2495 · 05/07/2014 20:12

Are you ok Zombie?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 05/07/2014 20:16

Aw, the wonderful ZombieNiece, she's a star.

Very glad that the set back this week won't increase the length of your treatment.

I hope the week-end is going well and you've had warmer, drier weather than us. Feeling like autumn here today.

Give those ZCats an extra snuggle from me.

Evening.

All is well. There really wasn't any news to report for a couple of days. Then yesterday I was in Shrewsbury at my in-law's Decking Party. Sarah and I got there just before noon. I bagged a seat in the shade and spent the next 5 or hours catching up with friends, eating nibbles and drinking quite a lot of champagne. The evening continued in much the same vein. I think there was a chinese take away involved. Sarah tells me we got back to her house at 11.30. I really wouldn't know. Grin Grin Grin

I got home around 1.00 this afternoon and had a long nap.

Busy day tomorrow - cats to the vet for their boosters and me to the hospital for pre-chemo bloodwork.

iklboo · 07/07/2014 19:29

So pleased to hear you had a lovely day Zombie.Smile

mummylin2495 · 07/07/2014 19:31

Should of guessed that Wine was involved. Very glad to see you post, was getting concerned. Happy to see you are living the life of Riley ! Good luck at hospital tomorrow. Is it Wed you have your next chemo ?

magimedi · 07/07/2014 19:33

Wine - all is good.

Hope pre-chem goes well.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/07/2014 20:36

Zomb! You're so naughty! I said to mummylin you'd be off on a jolly, actually I thought you might be oggling cyclists Grin

Soooo pleased to hear you were having a lovely time [cincin!]

We were worried, you hadn't posted for 4 days, (it's a bit like having a teenager who's stretching their wings isn't it?)

When my 18 year old went off travelling the world I begged her to send "All OK, nothing to report" occasionally.

We really do think of you, and get twitchy if we don't hear from you for a while.

Lots of love, and good luck tomorrow Flowers

IamtheZombie · 08/07/2014 17:01

Afternoon.

Much to my surprise, I managed to get all 3 ZombieCats into their carriers (eventually) and to the vet for their boosters. Maisie staged an escape when I picked her carrier up as I hadn't latched the door properly. She was dozy enough to let me immediately re-capture her and put her back into the carrier. I lured Tinkerbelle in but she did an immediate runner back out through the cat flap. Gemma was unhappy but well behaved. Once I got Gemma and Maisie secured in the car I tried again to lure Tinkerbelle to me. Silly thing came so I scooped her up, got her in her carrier and loaded in the car. It was a very noisy drive both ways. But, barring accident or illness, they don't need to suffer the indignity of the carriers until next July.

We all had breakfast when we got home. Then we all had a nap.

I went to the hospital this afternoon and had my bloods drawn. Now I just need to make a list of what I have to take with me tomorrow for the long day at the Chemo Day Centre.

Roast chicken with mash and broccoli are on the menu for tonight.

Mmm dinner sounds lovely ! Glad your cat excursion went ok after you finally got them all. I hope that everything goes well for you tomorrow and that the lesser dose stops you having another reaction, I'm sure you don't want or need that this time, fingers crossed all will be well this time .

IamtheZombie · 08/07/2014 22:48

Thanks, mummy. Smile

It's going to be a very long day tomorrow. I will try to pop on for a minute just to let you know I'm safely home. But it may be Thursday morning. Don't go sending out search parties! Grin Grin Grin

IamtheZombie · 09/07/2014 18:24

Evening all.

It's been a very long day at the hospital. Cycle 2 of Docetaxel and Cycle 1 of Herceptin. I left home at 7.30 to catch the 7.54 train from Craven Arms to Shrewsbury. Arrived in Shrewsbury at 8.22 and walked up into town for my MaccyD breakfast. Then went back to the station to pick up a taxi to the hospital. I was in my chair in the CDC at 9.40 and there I stayed until nearly 4.00. Taxi back to the station just in time to get straight on my train. Home at 5.30.

Tomorrow I get to see how good a nurse I am when I give myself the first injection of GSCF. That should be interesting.

ZombieHugsâ„¢ to all.

mummylin2495 · 09/07/2014 18:51

Glad you are home, it sounds a very long and tiring day. I'm sure you will be fine doing the injection, I had to do if for my dh when he had a hip replacement ( I quite enjoyed it ) I don't know what you have been advised, but we were told not to let the end of the syringe touch the skin so you don't get a bruise. But this may not be applicable for you. Hopefully tonight you will get a good nights sleep and feel rested tomorrow. 2 down 4 to go !!!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/07/2014 18:54

That does sound tough. Take it easy for the next couple of days.
