The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

That sounds quite gruelling sweetheart, well done getting through it. Flowers

Hope you've got something delicious for supper and a large [whisky]

Guess you will sleep well tonight, have a lie-in too Smile

Lots of luck with that tomorrow, where do you have to put the injection?

Allalonenow · 09/07/2014 23:13

Glad to hear that you got through such a difficult day, hope you had something tasty for dinner.
Rest as much as you can over the next few days, don't do any housework Grin

I'm loving that you have a cat called Tinkerbelle Smile

nickdrakeslovechild · 10/07/2014 11:29

Hope you are doing ok Zombie and not too tired. I always used to go to that MD for my breakfast. Always tried to get the cool cubbie hole table downstairs! This was many many moons ago.

IamtheZombie · 10/07/2014 12:03

Morning! Grin

Despite a disturbed night's sleep (caused by taking my steroids late in the day as I forgot to take them to hospital with me) I'm feeling pretty perky this morning. Absolutely no sign of any side effects yet.

It's a glorious day here. I'm taking advantage of that and having a bit of energy to get a couple of loads of laundry washed and pegged out. Otherwise a bit of tidying in the kitchen will be the extent of my physical activity today.

Thanks for the tip, mummy. The nurse didn't mention that when she was showing me how to do the injection.

I'll listen to my body, Chaz. I have learned NOT to overdo things.

Bee, you pinch an inch on your tummy and do the injection a few millimeters under the skin.

Allalone, Tinkerbelle certainly lives up to her name! She is a mischief maker.

Are you still local, nick?

My friend Becky arrives late this afternoon and will stay until Sunday. A couple of other friends are calling in on Saturday for an hour or so. My niece is also coming over on Saturday / Sunday. I shall be well looked after.

So glad to see you aren't feeling any adverse affects today, may it continue through till your next treatment. Seems you have lots of visitors coming to help you through. As usual I see you are being a busy bee, you have more energy than me !
Hope your jab went ok. How many do you have to do ? And I am presuming they hospital gave you a needle bin ? Enjoy the lovely sunshine today but don't overdo things and tire your self out.

nickdrakeslovechild · 10/07/2014 15:18

Not anymore Zombie, moved about 20 years ago to other side of the country. Still have family there so get over now and then. Don't think I have been into Shrewsbury centre in over 10 years. Glad you are feeling well and it is indeed a beautiful day.

IamtheZombie · 10/07/2014 15:45

Oh, the side effects will come, mummy, just not for another couple of days. I'm only doing things in 20 - 30 bursts and then resting for 45 minutes to an hour.

The jab was fine. I'm just waiting for my gold star. I have to do the injections on the 3 days after my chemo so I'll finish for this cycle on Saturday. Then on Monday I start my 10 day course of antibiotics. Yes, I have my very own bright yellow sharps box.

nick, next time you're over this way let me know and we can try to meet up for a coffee.

weebarra · 10/07/2014 15:48

Glad the injection went well. I had to do the same and got used to it pretty quickly. Take it easy though.

IamtheZombie · 10/07/2014 21:14

I'm doing my best to rest, wee.

Becky arrived safely. We had a lovely dinner in the pub in the next village and are now back home relaxing with some fizz.

More power to you Zombie, I'm still with you in spirit and urging you onwards and upwards Thanks

ZingGoesPop · 11/07/2014 00:33

glad you are doing ok so far and that your friend Becky is there now.
I hope you have a good night's sleep - especially if side effects are expected to hit soon.

did you ever get those knickers you wanted? I must know!Wink Grin

more big hugs & lots of love

IamtheZombie · 11/07/2014 09:01

Morning all.

Thanks, Hen.

Yes, Zing, I did indeed receive the pack of emergency knickers. Very welcome they were too!

Sleep was again somewhat disturbed last night. I've now taken all the steroids for this cycle so I hope their effect will start to wear off soon. Still, can't complain as I feel well again this morning.

It's going to be another glorious day here. We have no real plans other than shopping for the weekend food. I'll continue to tackle the diminishing laundry mountain. All of my sweaters need to be de-haired before being washed. Thank goodness I have plenty of sticky roller replacements! I think we're going to do a BBQ this evening.

Hope you all have a good day.

Glad you now have some company and you are still feeling ok an I'm not surprised you are feelinga bit more tired. Hope you have enjoyed the lovely day today and that you enjoyed your BBQ

IamtheZombie · 12/07/2014 22:16

Evening.

Today I got up. Then I went back to bed for 3 hours. I got up again. Wetherby (a teddy bear of my acquaintance) brought mum, dad and the dogs to see me for a couple of hours. Sarah arrived. Rebecca and Sarah took charge of the BBQ. We got to eat most of it outside before the rain arrived. Then I went back to bed. I'm now up again for a few hours listening to Becky and Sarah chat.

There are a few aches starting but some co-codamol before bed should help.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

OP posts:
mummylin2495 · 13/07/2014 00:09

Hi Zombie, lets. Hope the aches don't develop any further. Sounds like you had yet another good day. We have had no rain although its forecast and thunder too.
Hope when you get back to bed you can sleep right through till the morning, sounds like your body is needing a lot of sleep at the moment.
Maybe the rain will of stopped by tomorrow and you can have another BBQ.
Your photos are lovely, you look so healthy it's hard to think of what you have / are going through. And it looks like you still have quite a bit of hair at the moment. You are an inspiration Zombie. Really you are.

IamtheZombie · 13/07/2014 00:58

Thanks, mummy. I'm afraid the aches and pains are inevitable but I've taken my co-codamol and that's starting to work.

I will do little other than sleep and eat for the next few days. But that's normal for this drug.

Both Becky and Sarah go home tomorrow afternoon. There's plenty of food in to keep me going.

Most of the time I feel healthy. The irony is that it's the treatment that makes you feel crap.

I've about 20% of my hair left. Now we know which hair follicles were dormant nearly 4 weeks ago.

I'm just someone getting through what they need to get through the best way I can.

mummylin2495 · 13/07/2014 08:51

My nephews FIL is also going through it Zombie, I think his treatment has been worse than the illness!
Glad you will have plenty of supplies to keep you going when your friends are gone.
At least whilst you are sleeping your body is having a rest and that has to be good, it also slows you down a bit as I'm sure you would never rest otherwise! Have a good day today.

iklboo · 18/07/2014 21:04

Hi Zombie - how are you feeling & coping in this weather?

Wolfiefan · 18/07/2014 21:09

Zombie. I've looked at the pictures and all I can see is the huge smile!
Hope your RL support keeps you smiling. xx

IamtheZombie · 18/07/2014 22:11

Today is finally the day I've turned the corner for this cycle, iklboo. I slept for 18 hours yesterday. Today I've been watching the news, had a long soaky bath, gave myself the WORST manicure and pedicure ever and went shopping.

I'm loving the weather. Yesterday and today are like May or September days back in Virginia.

Thanks, Wolfie. xx

Glad you're onto the good bit for this cycle Zombie. I suppose it's predictable at least (but that's about all you can say for it). I found codeine good for aches. Did you manage the self injecting ok?
