Now just call me a goady fucker and you're sorted GrinBrew

Zombie, I am thrilled for you re. your DS. Absolutely thrilled. :) Thanks

Slightly tangentially, we have a new tv series being screened at the moment, which I'm watching - called Love Child. It's about the homes for unmarried mothers in the 1960s (1969 to be precise, since they've just shown the first moon landing) and the forced adoption practice that used to go on here in Australia. I'm feeling quite brave watching it - the first episode was fairly traumatic and I feel that, from the trailers, the next one will be too - but if they've gone to the effort to make a docudrama about the social injustices that were forced on those girls and their babies, then the least I can do is watch it.
(Not comparing it to Z's situation IN THE SLIGHTEST, btw, as there is no comparison)

IamtheZombie · 02/03/2014 20:04

Weren't most of the girls Aboriginal, Thumb?

Zombie is also thrilled. Actually thrilled doesn't even come close really. There just aren't words, just wave after wave of love, pride and gratitude that she has the chance to know this remarkable man.

Different thing, Zombie. Aboriginal children being taken away and placed with non-aboriginal families; not the same as stealing new born babies from single mums and adopting them away, often for money.
Two bad things here. :(

IamtheZombie · 02/03/2014 23:46

OMG, Thumb. How horrendous.

Zombie will keep an eye out for it being shown here in the UK.

I know - the aboriginal children thing is older, I think - they show it in the film Australia. Well meaning people trying to "save" the aboriginal children from their social fate, by taking them away from their communities and bringing them up Western-style. In the film Australia, it's church people taking them to what is effectively an orphanage, iirc. Dreadful thing to do, truly appalling, so arrogant! They're called the Stolen Generation - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Generations.

But there is more www.theaustralian.com.au/news/features/all-the-lost-children/story-e6frg8h6-1226607413904 - and I wouldn't read this unless you're feeling strong - the British Govt apparently shipped 12,000 children in orphanages down under to Australia to be adopted. And there was also a dreadful habit of "the Australian state" taking children from people they didn't deem worthy to keep them.

Dreadful children's rights history. :(

IamtheZombie · 02/03/2014 23:59

So many people's lives devastated. Tragic doesn't come close. Sad

What a dreadfully. shameful part of our history. Just beyond Sad

magimedi · 03/03/2014 22:27

To add a lighter note I am gutted that I did not get picked for the MN Open Day - but then nor did Zombie - which cheers me somewhat!

Should we have a shadow meet up instead? Wine & {smoke/vape}

IamtheZombie · 03/03/2014 22:36

Yes, magi we should! You're vaguely London way, aren't you? We could arrange a mini meet up (or a maxi meet up). Zombie can travel. Grin

Not a 'Salon de refuses' - pas de tout - just that MNHQ did not have the courage to pick Zombie et moi!

IamtheZombie · 03/03/2014 22:53

Zombie can do Brighton / Eastbourne.

Bee, are you in?
