Sad

I bet you looked divine Smile

Did the Man himself cut your hair?Envy

Wasn't his first salon opposite t\he Spaghetti House in Knightsbridge?

Do you remember the siege>

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2014 01:14

The Spaghetti House was on the apex of Knightsbridge and the A4 wasn't it?

OP posts:
BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/03/2014 01:19

Um, I fink so, probably.

It was a big stones throw from the Scotch House where Brompton Road meets Knightsbridge. And then on a bit more towards Park Lane.

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2014 01:29

Late DH and Zombie used to go to a restaurant / private club on the Hyde Park side of Knightsbridge just a bit along from the apex.

They also discovered Harveys (later Chez Buce) on Wandsworth Common. That was Marco Pierre White's first restaurant and they went there several times. Later they went to his restaurant in the Hyde Park Hotel. When we had finished our meal and were having coffee, Marco came out of the kitchen and joined us. He remembered us from his Wandsworth Common days.

Must admit, not to keen on MPW, especially after the series he did trying to help young, struggling chefs. Every time he was wandering around waving a huge knife! When he was just talking to them Shock
He was probably nicer in the early days.
I used to work opposite Harrods for Nina Ricci/Carven and got the bus along to Kensington High street to shop in Biba in my lunch hour.
Those over the knee suede boots were to die for! I had every colour Grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/03/2014 02:12

They did stretch quite a lot but I used to run a seam up the back on my old singer. They were about ÂŁ8 a pair, extortionate (sp?) at the time.
I could go on quite happily here by myself Grin
I had Mr. Freedom, candy floss pink, velvet hot pants too. They were obscenely (sp. again?) t.i.g.h.t Blush

I'll stop now. xxx

Thumbwitch · 01/03/2014 08:35

Loving the sound of the over-knee suede boots. I have knee high faux suede boots, which I love (but my calves are a little too podgy for them at the moment)

MPW always looks so scruffy but I believe he's a nicer man than Michel Roux, who lived near a friend of mine north of Oxford and was very stuck up, apparently.

magimedi · 01/03/2014 09:47

Being an old hippy (but a young one back then) my pride & joy were my Olaf's Daughter boots - they criss cross laced all the way up to the knee. Mine were red & I loved them dearly!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/03/2014 11:00

Three of us are old hippies then Grin. Far out!

Girding my loins for MN meet up at lunchtime.

Thumbwitch · 01/03/2014 11:40

Ha! I can't say "far out" any more like it used to be used - here in Australia it's used as a polite form of "oh FFS!" when you can't swear! It's one of the Australianisms that I honestly thought I'd never pick up, but have. Caught myself saying it just this morning Blush

Enjoy your lunch!

magimedi · 01/03/2014 22:44

"FaaaaaR Out, Maaaaaaaaan"

Wine may have been imbibed pre that attempt Grin

I don't thinkI ever said it, back in 'the day'!

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2014 22:53

Zombie was a hippy. Still is probably. Grin

John Denver was the only one who could say Far Out properly. Wink

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/03/2014 23:10

Hi all, just back from lunch.

Once a hippy always a hippy.

John Denver was never a hippy. Sorry Z but really, John Fucking Denver Shock

sanssoleil · 01/03/2014 23:19

Oh dear Zee I remember having to play Annies Song on my flute at school assembly-I think James Galway and his blinging golden flute over popularised that poor song Sad

I had a teacher that was part of the 60s scene in Liverpooland was sooo Envy of her.Likewise of a prof who was part of the student revolution in Paris.
Can anyone remember a folky singer called Melanie I loved her.

I was more the post-punk 'alternative' clotheswise.

Have being trying to get a katharine Hamnett eco t-shirt online tonight

Not a Fashion Victim haha or Save the Sea

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2014 23:20

John Denver is Zombie's DLS (Dirty Little Secret).

Turning serious for a moment. Did any of you read the thread started in Chat on Tuesday about the Daily Mail's latest 'child snatched for adoption' story? At 07.13 on Wednesday morning Spero posted a link to a new article on the Child Protection Resources site. I wrote that article. The thread has dropped to page 15 on the Chat thread list and Spero's post is about 20% up from the last post on the thread.

Hey Bee at least I thinly veiled my issues with John DenverGrin

Sounds like you had a lovely lunch!

sanssoleil · 01/03/2014 23:24

Xposting again....

I saw the thread a few days agoFlowers and hope you are ok.xxxxx

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/03/2014 23:42

I did see that that thread Z. I tend to avoid anything with a link to Daily Mail articles.

Do you want us to bump it?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/03/2014 23:44

sol I remember Melanie!

IamtheZombie · 01/03/2014 23:48

No, Bee, no reason to bump it. Zombie knew that you, soleil and Thumbwitch were aware but wasn't sure if magi was. Or Fid. Where is Fid?? Zombie has emailed her.

OP posts:
IamtheZombie · 01/03/2014 23:51

Anyway, the other reason Zombie mentioned it was as a segue into telling you that things are still going brilliantly with getting to know her son.

She burst into tears this morning when she logged into FB and found that he had commented on her most recent status update.

OP posts:
BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 02/03/2014 00:37

Sorry Darling, can't help with Fid's whereabouts, am sure she'll be back soon though.
I'm immeasurably(sp?) happy for you about your re-established relationship with your son.
I have no doubt that it will continue to grow and enhance your lives forever.
Don't underestimate the power of these words on a screen, many of us continue to consider them after we've logged off.

Because we know there's a real Zombie at the end of them Smile

IamtheZombie · 02/03/2014 00:58

Tangent alert!

National Geographic Channel is doing a series called Evacuate Earth. Zombie missed the first episode but the second one was really scary. It was about what could happen if the rabies virus mutated (or genetically modified) so that it was easily transmitable from person to person.

Apparently once a mammal (including humans) shows symptoms death is inevitable. Before symptoms appear there is no indication that the mammal is ill. Once the brain is infected one would essentially become a violent Zombie-like creature attacking all and sundry before dying.

Zombie is so NOT that sort of Zombie.

OP posts:
BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 02/03/2014 01:07

Even more tangential alert.

I wish this fucking Happy Saint David's Day flag would FUCKOFF!

Has no-one else got it? It must know I'm a heathen. Is the only way to escape to go to bed?

I'm not giving in! I will post around you, you boring,getting-in-my-way utterfucking twateverywhereibloodylook!
