Hello...

slyandgobbo = Well done on getting a casting! You may find that it will take a while for your son to get used to the situation and he will feel more comfortable over time or maybe he was just having a bad day. I personally would try a couple more before giving up unless he gets really stressed becasude it's meant to be fun for them. Good luck!!! How old is he?

slyandgobbo · 19/08/2006 19:23

thanks, mrratty, he's 5. the thing was I could see the other kids there were much more relaxed about the process; when they asked him to smile, he did a very odd sort of gurning face. i think he's beautiful, butthere's obviously no point if he doesn't enjoy it...

thorntons · 19/08/2006 19:38

Evening all! Slyandgobbo, yes totally agree with Mrattys comments re modelling for your ds. Would go to a couple more castings and see how he goes. Good luck.. He may relax more next time ..Even if it doesnt work out you will know he was gorgeous enough to be taken on by one of the top agencies!!
My dh ,bless him, took dd out shopping whilst I was having a nap before my shift tonight..Guess what 2 of dds pics are on display in our local M+S !! he took pics on his mobile .Cant wait to go and have a look myself tomorrow! Have a good evening everyone.

educatingrita · 19/08/2006 19:59

Slyandgobbo, Poor you I know how you feel as this happened with my 3 1/2 year old.

I have now given up and not renewed her on the book etc with MOT which was sad for me but after a whole year of her not enjoying castings and the bribery and cajouling I just felt it wasnt fair.

I took her a month ago to the littlewoods one and though she dutifully tried on the pj's given to her, when it was time to have pics taken she also was very stiff and looked like a soldier standing there with a worried face on! They kept saying "just relax a bit" but shes only 3 I dont think she even knows what that means!

I hope your ds may grow out of it, it may be just a phase. I saw out the year that we had paid for before I made up my mind.
HTH and good luck xx

Quadrophenia · 19/08/2006 20:11

Hi slyandgobbo, I think as your son is 5 why not just ask him if he liked it and would like to do it again. Honestly though i don't think I would pursue it as photographers are used to having reluctant younger children but at 5 I think they have a higher expectation. I know i sound harsh but the main factor is whether your kid enjoys it and if they don't then there isn't really much point. I wish you luck in making your decision x

slyandgobbo · 19/08/2006 21:07

Thanks, everyone. What was confusing me was that DS says he wants to do it but then clearly didn't enjoy the casting. I think perhaps what was going on was that he thought I wanted him to do it despite me saying repeatedly it was up to him so he soldiered through. When I asked him about it, he just said he didn't like the shirt but would like to earn some money with which to buy more toys! I think I'll just ask him very casually if / when another casting comes up and if he is negative, will abandon the whole thing!

mrratty · 19/08/2006 22:31

slyandgobbo - my DD refused to wear a pair of shorts on her first job so they had to find her sonething different to wear. The stylist had used her for a couple of other jobs since which shows they are used to this behaviour!
thorntons - Well done on the pics. What is your DD doing in the M&S pics, I will try to work out who she is when I next go in.

slyandgobbo am really curious as to your 'other' identity

dylansluckymum · 20/08/2006 10:48

mrratty congrats those jobs sound great couldn't have worked out better it seems!

now that ds is 'official' at b&b i guess it's now the waiting game i wonder how he'll be. he cut his first tooth on thurs (his 4 mo bday) and although it's just cracked the surface it's not showing any signs of going back down so i guess it's on it's way in. he was cranky last week but i had no idea it was a tooth until he bit me! i guess i'm meant to let b&b know when it's visible??

julie4travel · 20/08/2006 10:54

lindic- i will have a nose on child modelling.net, well done. my ds was teh other week

Hope you had a nice holiday

I think Kids London are totally sole rep unless they will accept for photographic only. i asked b and b the question and they would not do photographic only. Mot isn't sole rep so they are ok yet they said no to my ds

julie4travel · 20/08/2006 10:56

lindic- if you are on NAPM website do me a private message same user name as i have on here

lindac · 20/08/2006 10:58

i think i might just go with kids london then if i can only go with one, as they are very well talked about arggh i thought this would get easier .......
my dd is Tilz on childmodelling net it was great coming home and seeing that

Good luck for KL assesment. They are supposed to be really good and get the work.

ellismum · 20/08/2006 22:52

Hi, new to the site, you all sound very friendly!
My ds is with bma models, has been since may but havent had anything yet, has anyone else ever had anything with them? He has just been accepted by truly scrumptious, would anybody recommend them?
I made the stupid mistake of joining him up with models direct at the beginning of the year, so dont want to waste any more money on any more mistakes!

princessmel · 21/08/2006 07:51

Hi, you're MNname is very similar to ellesmum!

I haven't heard of them but I'm new to this. Someone will have some info I'm sure. I think julie4travel has her dd with TrulyS. She'll prob be on here later. Hi Julie!

Poor you with models direct

julie4travel · 21/08/2006 08:51

ellismum- hi and welcome to this thread

My ds and dd got accepted by TS. They only take kids on certain times of the year and apparently have people waiting to get on their books. Their fees are high , I just paid £170 for my dd to join them. The photoshoot is in October half term which I have my dd booked on. My son in the meantime got accepted by bruce and brown. They seem really good aswell and I haven't had to pay any additional money out to join them at this present time so I have put him with them. If he hadn't been accepted by B and B I would have put him with TS I was just reluctant to keep paying out money until I started getting some work back to cover what costs I have paid out. Truly Scrumptious do seem to get the work my friends kids do modelling with another agency and always finds kids from Truly Scrumptious at the same shoot. They do not start representing the kids until 01 Jan 07 , you get a copy of the model book (some agencies don't give parents one). The assesment was a bit like a creche group. About 10 or so parents in the room the kids play whilst they talk about the agency etc. They have loads of magazines out where their kids are on etc. I liked what I saw. Just wished the fees were a bit cheaper. If I remember rightly think they have been going for about 20 or so years so I would be more reassured with that as you don't want to loose any more money. I am not sure if anyone else on this site has kids with TS. You could join this site and ask the question
www.childmodelling.net someone elses kids may have been with them the last year and help you a bit more than I have. Good luck. any questions just ask

julie4travel · 21/08/2006 09:00

ellismum- forgot to say you may even want to try some other agencies incase there is a better one for you (everyone has different plus's etc) . Bruce and brown www.bruceandbrown.com charge £25 website fee from the initial job and if they do a modelbook again next year its optional to be in it I think it costs about £150 roughly. Urban Angels takes on I think in Novemeber and fees are quite low about £40 ish. Some on here are with Kids London and extremely happy. MOT supposed to be really good and not a sole rep agency (I think) yet they said no with my two kids. I took months deciding who I should put my kids with so take your time!

ellismum · 21/08/2006 09:46

Hi julie, thanks for your info, we did go to the assesment meeting wtih ts in june this year, so am just trying to decide, I think we prob will go with them, we got a no from b and b and mot said they had too many of his age group at mo.
Had a yes from a few others like Little acorns, rascals, alphabet kids, but I quite like the sound of ts. I dont know anyone else whos children do this so it is interesting to hear from you guys.
p.s I have logged on to childmodelling.net, saw you on there, well done on your dd for star of the week!
Trying to get money back from models direct but proving v. hard.

julie4travel · 21/08/2006 09:56

ellismum- there has been a bit of negative stuff on this site before about little acorns, i remember someone else said rascals gets the work yet the attitude of the staff etc isn't great. I personally steered clear of them due to this. i think quite a few mums on here are with alphabet kids and seem happy with them. i hadn't really heard of them when i applied so cant comment on them.

its lindics daughter on child modelling.net this week. my ds was on it the other week. Little red haired boy towards the bottom.

further down on this months thread there was a reporter wanting stories about bad experiences with an agency, You may want to contact her. If your report is used it may somehow help with you getting your money back if its in print? Thats just a thought. There was loads of people on this site who lost money with Inspired kids so everyone is very careful on the agency situation now. They looked so professional so everyone was so cross! Hope you get somewhere.

By teh way how old is your little one? have you had the october half term photoshoot date sent through from ts?

ellismum · 21/08/2006 10:07

He is 2 today! my other ds is 5 but i never thought of child modelling with him, I dont think he would want to , they are very different characters.

I have got date through for mon 16th oct.

pics on childmodelling are lovely (everyones).

julie4travel · 21/08/2006 10:14

ellismum- happy birthday to him! My ds has just turned three yet her appointment is the 22nd. I think they gave that one incase i did put my ds with them aswell. i am a bit worried about my dd doing it. She isn't as much of a show off as my ds although she loves having photos . I am hoping she will last longer than a year at it yet who knows. Plus she knows her brother does it and wants to do everything the same as him, not sure if thats good or bad as she picks up swords etc tod o sword fighting and i keep saying you are a girl you cant do that!

anyway got to do some work. others will prob come on later and give you info on alphabet kids etc. Good luck in your decisions.

thorntons · 21/08/2006 10:21

Ellismum, welcome to this thread and happy birthday to your ds! Good luck re ds and TS .Sorry to hear about your brush with Modelsdirect! I have seen quite a few of their kids at shoots and castings dd has done.
