hi perfume .thanks did you get my email friday?how did dd casting go

lindac · 21/08/2006 16:11

Hi all
i have just posted back my registration forms to kids london they said as soon as they get them they will start putting her forward for work so i hope she is as lucky as some of your lo's on here seem to be

ellismum- my dd was on bma for quite a long time and a friend of mine was also, both of us got a few castings but not much i think the problem with them is they have so many kids on there website, also my dd was with truly scrumptious when she was a lot younger (she is 11 now)and she got lots of very good jobs with them, so i know they are very good, but she got to the stage she was not happy doing it anymore so we stopped as i didnt want to pressure or force her into it.
My dd who is star of the week on childmodelling net last week has just been accepted by kids london so i am going with them as they are very well known and talked about very highly of by mums on here
good luck with everything

2ManyPimms · 21/08/2006 16:16

perfumelady · 21/08/2006 19:25

marymay, thanks did receive email ,had friends down from scotland all weekend, so haven't had chance to reply. not sure how casting went, there were about 10 boys and 10 girls all of the same age and look, they were filmed while a lady was asking them questions and that was about it, i'm guessing that we would have heard today if it was a yes because filming is on friday and a performance licence needs to be sorted so i will be very surprised if she gets a yes now. let me know how dd get on tomorrow.

tooexcitedtospeak · 21/08/2006 19:26

Hi All.

Im new to this, but me and my husband would really like to consider getting our dd registered with a modeling company. Any suggestions which one is best, and which one doesnt cost a fortune to start with??

Thanks guys.

tavalana · 21/08/2006 19:39

there are lots of agencies that don't charge a fortune, bruce and brown, kids london, mot junior, bubblegum are just a few to start with but there is many more out there. good luck.

ellesmum · 21/08/2006 19:39

hi everyone! havent been on lately as been very busy with my little sis staying for summer hols so been trying to keep her entertained!

great to hear you are all busy with jobs and castings good luck!!!

i thought someone had stolen my name when i first started reading the latest threads, had to look closely and noticed ellismum!!!

welcome ellismum good luck with ts!!!!
think people will get a bit confused with us both as im ellesmum !!!

well done lindic for your dd winning star of the week! she is very pretty!

i cant wait for my dd to get another job or casting havent heard from kids since her last job but its only been a few weeks so fingers crossed she should get something else soon! has anyone with a 2 year dd had any castings over the last 2 weeks????

julie4travel · 21/08/2006 19:43

evening all. my ds has been shortlisted on one of the star now unpaid jobs. I spoke to the 2nd assistant director earlier. its a small part in the film. and it will be an 18 when filmed so he wont even be able to see himself for many years! hopefully i will have more info tommorow as a bit vague at moment. fingers crossed.

Has anyone done unpaid work before for a film? do you need a licence? also do you advise your casting agent that you are doing an unpaid job? any advise appreciated

logging off now speak tommorow

perfumelady · 21/08/2006 19:44

tooexcitedtospeak, it's very hard to actually say which agency is best because everyone has a differant experiances, all i will say is do your research and don't accept the first one that says yes, check out the jobs that each agency has done and then maybe you can suss out if that agency is more suited to yours childs age group. here are list of agencies that are known on this site to be repertable, low start up and gets lots of work

mot junior - www.motmodels.co.uk

bruce & brown - www.bruceandbrown.com

kids london - www.kidslondonltd.com

urban angels - www.urbanangelsagency.com

these four agencies are by far the top four agencies with no or very minimal start up costs. i have seen children from all of these agencies at castings that we have been to.

also have seen kids from www.bizzykidz.com

elisabeth smiths - www.elisabethsmith.com

norrie carr - www.norriecarr.co.uk

these two agencies are very well known and very well established with in the industry but do have a much higher start up cost.

make sure you send off a really good clear head shot photo a good photo can make the differance between yes or no. good luck

julie4travel · 21/08/2006 20:25

2manypimms- thanks for telling me. my ds should be on their site soon so fingers crossed he will get something. is your little one 6 or did i get that totally wrong? I may see you at some castings (am i being too hopeful now?!!)

ellismummy · 21/08/2006 20:36

ellesmum, It does look similar doesnt it! sorry.
I have altered it slightly so that it looks different when you first look at it.

lindac, its good to hear your dd did well with ts- makes me feel a bit better with parting with my money.

ellesmum · 21/08/2006 21:08

ellismum- have you tried the smaller agencies with low start up costs like kids london and bruce and brown?
my dd who is also 2 has just joined kids london, i paid nothing and she got her first casting and job within 2 weeks which i thought was really promising, they are going to take £25 out of her payment from the job she did and thats it!
i thought that was really good as i also have been conned by an agency called little acorns who i paid £210 to and heard nothing from them for 18 months!sorry to hear about your experience with models direct, they also acceped my dd when she was a baby and kept ringing me for the money, luckly i heard of their rep and didnt go with them.

ellismummy · 21/08/2006 21:15

ellesmum, tried b and b but they said no, didnt try kidslondon, they do sound really good but have paid to go with ts now, so maybe will change next year if still doing it.
also we are outside of london, and i know some will only accept people who live in london

I have read of so many people who have been ripped of by models direct, its so awful that they can get away with it, apparently they were on watchdog a few years back. does anybody know of anyone ever having work with them?

ellismummy · 21/08/2006 21:16

ellesmum- we also went for assesment with little acorns but luckely decided not to go with them.

ellesmum · 21/08/2006 21:24

well done for escaping little acorns! ive never heard of anyone getting work with models direct i dont know how they are still up and running so they must be getting some of their models work, i think they have thousands of kids and adults on their books and only get a tiny amount of work.
kids are a good agency but ive heard ts are good aswell so you should be fine with them, good luck and keep us posted!

2ManyPimms · 22/08/2006 08:04

Julie4 - how has your LO been doing? You are spot-on, DS is 6. I am certain we'll bump into each other at some point. One thing has surprised me with this whole "moggling" thing - how quickly you are in and out of castings. I really haven't been able to chat to other mums as our LOs are all in-and-out in a flash. Great news about being short-listed! What is it for?

Those with LOs that attended the George casting - have you heard anything yet? Anyone going to the Saachi Health Care casting today?

poppiesmum · 22/08/2006 08:35

Hello. Hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread, but can anyone give me advice on baby modelling agengies outside of London? My 7mo dd has been offered a contract with Models Direct, but they want £128 for 3 years and I don't see why they want money, and haven't heard great things about them - any suggestions

julie4travel · 22/08/2006 08:38

2manypimms- he has only just joined b and b literally i got the call last week so obviously too soon for anything from them. His last casting was 3rd aug yet we had to turn it down as it was my dds birthday and he had a casting about end July which he didn't get that was for a commerical and thats it. But then he had only joined cs in end June so I don't expect things to happen overnight. With Scallywags last year all he had was one job and no castings so I feel he is doing miles better this time round.

As long as the film dont change their mind (my son has blue eyes and the lead actor has green) then he will purely be in a small flashback scene from when the actor was a little boy. Its a low budget film yet they said could be a high profile one.

Have you done any unpaid work for the kids to gain experience? I am wondering if a licence is required or not? I purely applied on a couple of star now things for unpaid work as i thought he is so eager at this moment in time that he just needs the opportunity.

Sure i will see you soon, i will post on here if anything comes up. fingers crossed soon

sleepfinder · 22/08/2006 08:41

Just to answer your license question - talk to your local council. The 3 main criteria they follow are these

  1. Does the child gain from the appearance (money or otherwise)
  2. Are they missing school?
  3. Has the school given permission?

Sometimes if its only 2 out of 3 they let it go, but it very much depends on how strict that particular council is...
